It is most likely another server issue, as many have been experiencing 504 errors and flat out disconnects. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I've been getting a lot of 504 errors, which is a gateway timeout. It usually means the server is slow to respond due to high traffic load, usually.

No it is not just you. All users are experiencing the gateway timeout message and lag. Staff, including the Tech Admin team are aware. Please bear with us while it is resolved. Thanks all who have reported this.

No. Internet Slowdown day was not an actual reduction of internet speeds and an attempt to artificially reduce performance for the end user.

It's Thursday now, and the problem is still here. Although, it seems to come in spurts. For about a half hour (6:00am CST), it was scrumptious, but now between 7:00-9:00am CST it's back to having problems.

For the past couple of days, MLP Forums seems to be slowing down alot, and I've even received a few gateway timeout errors.

 

 

If I don't get a gateway timeout, pages take about 10 seconds to load.

 

My friend was experiencing this earlier today, but it still could just be us. I dunno. Anyone else having these problems?

 

Edit: Must be a DDoS attack. It's getting worse.

Fun fact: Sites that partake/partook in that didn't/don't actually slow down their site for their users; that'd be counter-productive to the goal of spreading the information quickly x) From what I understood they all just had big banners and things that relayed info and provided links.

It's been intermittent but ongoing. As far as server load, usually some adjustments to certain files will resolve that. One of the easier things to resolve on a board is SL issues.

First off welcome to the forums. Second, the forums are normally pretty fast and not this sluggish, BUT, the great 504 Gateway Timelord has graced us with his presence... again... Hurray. :/

Don't worry though, Something like this has happened before and it will be resolved as soon as possible by the staff.

As far as the site being slow, this is a known issue and is being worked on by our site engineers. There are times that it does slow down a little or resets. Please bear with us.

I to am experiencing site slowdowns and gateway timeout errors, starting from about the same date stamp as OP's post.

I know that these site lag issues are becoming frustrating for a lot of people, myself included. So I wanted to take a moment to explain why progress on this is slow.
 
As large as the staff is, we only have two people who are qualified and equipped to address IT problems here: lavo and feld0. Lavo is the IT lead for MLP Forums, and feld0 is the IT lead for Poniverse as a whole.
 
From what I recall, lavo has a full-time job, and feld0 is extremely busy with college. As frustrating as these site issues are, neither of them can prioritize fixing them over their real-life responsibilities.
 
Progress on this issue being slow, therefore, is not out of any lack of caring. It's due to the fact of how limited our technical manpower is and how we all have real-life responsibilities that come first. Additionally, resolving these problems is not a simple task. Fixing them takes time.
 
These issues will be resolved, but it may take time. I will keep you guys updated as best as I can, but in the meantime please bear with us.
 
You all can help out by letting us know if/when anything changes for you, such as if you notice an increase in slowness and/or gateway timeout errors, or conversely if the problems disappear for you.

@Twilight Dirac, this is a known issue that Technical Administration is aware of and working on. Trust me when I say that we are all ready for the site to resume normal functionality and use.

the site acts like that because of the thousands of other members online at once the more people connected to the site the slower it runs there has been some moments where the site is just completely down for me and I have to find other things to do to kill time
