How would you react to a friend's betrayal?

Something which is bothering me lately, but first a little context:

 

I won't go into too many details because this is a private matter, so suffice to say that i uncovered a conspiracy made against me under my nose by someone who i considered among my closest friends. He would not admit it even if i presented him with evidence, and he attempted to cover his tracks. I don't want to risk breaking the ties that we had since childhood, but at the same time i'm very disappointed by his actions so much that i feel sick. It's a serious breach of my trust in my friend, which is why this is a big deal to me.

 

How would you deal with a breach of loyalty from those you consider closest to you? Do you sweep this under the rug, or do you confront them?

If i put a lot of trust into a close friend and then seeing him break that, i would certainly get a mix of anger and sadness. Anyhow, i would probably confront him/her and give them a serious talk, since "Sweeping it under the rug" doesnt really do much if he/she is going to keep breaking promises and the likes.

I guess it depends. If it was someone I felt really attached to that betrayed me, I'd be pretty sad . Like breaking up. Otherwise I'd be a bit angry then .

I'd lose all trust and affection I might have had for them, not ignore or insult them, but avoid talking to them about anything personal. I won't consider them anymore than an acquantance rather than a friend, which will probably never be again

Well my best friend (boyfriend at the time, he came out of the closet like earlier this year though so...) it was like 3 years ago, It was the ending of my freshman year. He was in 8th grade, so we went to different schools. Anywho, this one girl was talking mad shit about me, and he never once defended me. Never once. He defended this girl(his ex) over me. I was friends with him WAAAAY LONGER. I felt betrayed, so we got in a huge fight and stopped being friends for a few months until we finally just swept the whole thing under a rug. Now we're super super best friends. I've gone to festivals with him and we've had sleepovers.

 

Maybe you just need to have some time apart from your friendship. If you two are true friends you'll find your way back to one another.

I would just forget about it but I would not confront him because it can only worsen a situation.

I have been betrayed quite a bit it hurts a lot for me and if you were to betray me I would never speak to you again or forgive you

I was thinking the exact same thing when I came to this post. I too have had "friends" who only brought pain and suffering to my life, I have now been cutting down so much on my friends that I fear I have none left. the few I have arent exactly perfect either and have days where they just act like pure toxic against me. But as you sayd there are different types of betrayal, some types are more forgiving than others.
