What is Spike's gender?

I just want to get other bronies' opinions on Spike's gender. I have always seen Spike as a dude because he likes Rarity, and because he has a deep voice, but I have seen images of Spike as a girl. What do you all think?

Yeah, I'm almost positive spike is a guy. Any pictures you have seen to the contrary are most likely unofficial fan art.

I agree with Stormgiggle on this one. Spike is male but there is plent of fan art that makes him female or dress as a femboi. That's fan art, not official art. i do understand that there is fan art based off events from the actual show, including comics but not all of it is cannon. I do hope this answers your question.

I...don't know why this is even up for debate. Spike has always unequivocally been a male. How you would even come about to questioning it, especially through fanart of all things, is beyond me.

Albeit I can see why it could be misinterpreted. I use to think Buttercup from PPGs was a boy when I was a kiddo.

Well, I'd say he does not just identify himself as a boy (gender) but also is male (sex).

 

Can't remember what episode it was, but he was at least one time called a boy by Twilight. I'm pretty sure this happened on other occasions as well. And if I'm not mistaken it's also said in some official descriptions of his character.

Like everyone has said before, Spike is definitely a male. The only thing that could be considered girly regarding Spike is the fact that a female voices him. But that is like saying Bart Simpson is a female.

Wouldn't be the first, or last, time a guy was voiced by a woman. Children in particular get this treatment since women usually have higher-pitched voices.

Spike's gender is confirmed is episode 3, The Ticket Master. Applejack says this towards the end of the episode, "Well wallop my withers, Spike. Isn't that just like a boy? Can't handle the least bit of sentiment."

 

And whenever one of the Mane 6 talk about him not by name, they refer to him as a male....

It was cut out at Spike's request, so Rarity wouldn't know
