So I'm dating a girl who's really into anime, and I mean into it. XD I've seen fair share of it myself (A little of Kill La Kill and such) I'm trying to get into Sword Art Online right now, but are there any other shows you anime experts feel like are worth my time?

oh boy soa is sure to ruffle some jimmies

-GURREN LAGANN GURREN LAGANN GURREN LAGANN RIGHT NOW PLEASE

-Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. Sequel to the original FMA but includes a more condensed version of it for the first episodes.

-Attack on Titan is a good if traumatizing introduction to animu. Probably already heard of it.

Honestly it depends on what you like. SoL, action, mecha, whatever. You just have to find it.

Death note is a really good one to watch...

That's somewhere on my list as well :P

Heard of Bebop, but not so sure about the rest of those. Might check em out once I get some of the more big animes out of the way

1. Oh no, have the jimmies been rustled??

2. GURREN LAGANN? SOUNDS INTERESTING

3. Well, still need to see original FMA, and Attack On Titan is coming up on the list.

I've always been a fan of comedy, no matter what. Might try and find some of the more comedic in nature

snip for reasons of no long thread plox

1. yes sao will always create the rustles

2. SERIOUSLY WATRCH GURREN LAGANN GURREN LAGANN IS GOOD

3. Like i said Brotherhood has a 'recap' of sorts but if you finish the first thats your choice.

Comedy and Slice of Life (SoL) are put together pretty much all the time. Also Romance and Comedy. I havent seen much comedy so i cant help you there.

2. ALRIGHTYYYY

3. Oh, that works for me then XD

Hmm, alright then. I suppose I can go for that. Romantic I can deal with, but will definitely work if set like a Romantic Comedy. Or really just a generally funny-ish anime.

As a new anime fan, you HAVE HAVE HAVE to check out:

Death Note - possibly one of the greatest short anime series of all time (in my opinion)

Anything from Studio Ghibli - choose something older by Hayao Miyazaki (he's a legend :D)

Bleach - a great long series that has a lot of manga to go with it

Eden of the East - I really enjoyed this series too. :)

I also believe that watching anime with subtitles is the absolute best way to get the most out of it.

Hope you enjoy these!

This isn't much of an anime suggestion but Crunchyroll.com is a good place to watch anime, if you have the access to it.

Some anime that I would suggest is(besides what has already been suggested):

Log Horizon

Love, Chunbiyo & Other Delusions

Samurai 7

Guin Saga

Vampire hunter D: Bloodlust(it's an older movie but it's pretty good)

What about manga?  Were you interested in looking into that too, or was it just anime?

I don't really know any comedies, but the animes(?) I have most enjoyed besides SAO were:

-Puella Magi Madoka Magica

-No Game No Life

-Shugo Chara

I totally recommend them!

I thought about it, and I think I'll get into manga shortly after I get fully into anime. It's a priority, just not on the top.

Hope you enjoy these!

Oh, I plan on sticking to subtitles. Do I ever plan

Sword Art Online?  That show's :P

Try Deathnote.  Good god, that show's well put-together.  Well, the second half is not so great, but the first will blow your potato sack.

Or if you want something funny/random, Nichijou is absolutely hilarious.  Seriously, I almost popped a rib watching I was laughing so hard.

There's always Attack on Titan, too.  The show's really hyped, and it's not bad, but the main character is really OP and irritatingly "profound".

If you're in the mood for something a little darker, Future Diary's pretty good.  Really intense thriller, man.  You'll be on the edge of your seat, but don't watch if you're squeamish.  Ghosthunter is a little safer.  The scary moments are more spread out, and it's the perfect level of freaky for me to safely watch when I'm home alone.

Or, my first anime was more self-indulgent.  Ouran High School Host Club.  Which is like, the cheesiest thing EVER on the outside, but is actually well worth a watch.

Loads of stuff out there, man.  Happy viewing.  :)

You should definitely check out Angel Beats. It's a short anime, but still great.

Also, like said above, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. You don't have to worry about watching the original, because they're basically just alternative story lines to each other, Brotherhood following the manga more whereas the original was in the making before the manga was finished. But yeah. FMAB is probably my favourite anime.

Death note

Fairy tail

Angel beats

Cowboy bebob

Durarara

Lastely and my absolute favourite anime, Steins;Gate!

Just some of my favourites

-clannad afterstory (made me cry)

I'm there with you...

Clannad is a nice anime using a contrast of comedy and tragedy, After Story goes more into the Tragedy aspect but overall it's a very emotional anime.

Alternatively I would suggest an Anime called Shakugan no Shana, which I am about to rewatch soon

Some more that I really liked are: Elfenlied, Deadman Wonderland, Dog Days, Seto no Hanayome, ChaoS;Head and various others. I bet if Churro sees this he's going to be like "Watch K-On, it's a great anime!"

But really just look into some anime, check out what kind of style you like and start from there, if you don't like something, don't watch it and maybe look for a different anime that looks more appealing to you.

SAO?! MY JIMMIES HAVE BEEN RUSTLED.

Just kidding I haven't seen it, but I have seen reviews about it.

As for anime I recommend,

  • -Log Horizon (Some reviewers say it is better the SAO).
  • -Gurren Lagann (I know it was already recommended, but seriously, WATCH IT!!!)
  • -Soul Eater (Currently watching and enjoying it).

Anime that hasn't been said already:

  • Chaika the Coffin Princess. Watch if you like magic sniper rifles.
  • Arpeggio of Blue Steel. Watch if you like cute girls and futuristic battleships.
  • World conquest Zvezeda plot. Watch if you like silly stories about taking over the world.
  • Nanana's Buried Treasure. It's good, watch it.
  • Space battleship yamato. Think of the navy, now put it in space.
  • Space Dandy. I haven't seen it, but a reviewer I trust, likened it to Kill la Kill. Just with more clothing.

There are a lot of good anime out there, it just might take some digging.

My top suggestions, are...

Comedy- k-on (or keion) and be ready to...well, just be wary of the ending

Horror/action- it's been mentioned a few times, but let me restate, if you haven't seen death note, you must

Action- black butler is also really great, again, I know it was mentioned above, but it's still awesome, just be wary of the...borderline yaoi stuff...

Romcom- if you want something to maybe wactch with her, you could try toradora, it's definitley my favorite, but...if you don't like tsundere at all...them avoid it

Things are changing

You're goddamn right <3

Some people see it as a typical 'moe' anime, but I think it offers a lot more than just cute girls doing cute things FCZ4Yn6.png

Don't forget the clumsy girls....

Anyway another anime I recently started (In fact a few hours ago) is called Nagi no Asukara and I love it, I am extremely hooked on it. :3
