gaming How do you make your gaming experience more fun?

So i made this discussion for those who want to share what they do in video games to enhance their experiences, this means mods, changes to characters colors, the like. So have fun and keep it within the guidelines.

Alright, i love playing battle of z and met these three guys that are good at the game. So i decided to have a little fun and pitch an idea to them that would give each of us a good laugh. So after i do, they agree to it and we each pick a character we use the most. Of course i picked SSJ2 Vegeta and make his armor pink, and for a good joke say this: "Oh look, the princess of all saiyans."

That got them busting a gut laughing so hard i heard one of them fall out of his chair. I told him i didn't think it was that funny, but he did apparently. So they all went pink as well and we called ourselves the "Princesses of DBZ" which still sticks to this day and we complete every mission with a Z rating. Its funny how a simple color change can make your experience more fun.

it depends what sort of game im playing, if im being super competitive then i like just having some teammates as good as i am, if not i like to make a game of beating all my teammates scores combined, but im only really good enough at Gears of War and Titanfall to try going for that :P

otherwise it's just nice to have a drink and chat with my friends in party chat :P

Getting emotionally invested with the characters. I play games for plot more than anything else, and you can't have a good plot without developed characters.

Generally my single-player games are pure Vanilla, with the occasional mod here or there, but most of the time it's just utility. (Skyrim's pony armor and PEW arrows be the exception). By that point it's mostly just personal challenges, like using no archers in an RTS.

With multiplayer I also do little challenges (particularly if I'm losing, and know there's no more chance of winning without flukes). Idiotic tactics like charging a sniper nest with nothing more than a knife, or taking down a helicopter become staples of the game real quick. Best part is when they actually work, and you can confuse them with your brilliant stratagem XD

People say mods, I've done that too.  However I love the game Psychonauts and replaying the game a few times made me notice more finer details.  Like in the Basic Braining level, the bushes are actually bullet belts in the shape of bushes.  And I was like, "Woah! I never noticed that!"

So I say replaying a game over and over again to notice the fine details that game developers lovingly put in; is one way to have fun with a game.

I see many enjoy mods, of course I enjoy the mods as well, on PC

Though for my gaming experience in the 360, which lacks the mod support, when I get with a raid party of friends on Destiny and we get tired of losing to the boss. I just stop taking it very seriously and joke around with my fire team like pointing at the boss and saying "you with the gun" or "you with the face" just to liven up the mood

You sound fun to play with. i have XBL, but i have to earn my 1-month back before i play again.

I take enjoyment in joking around a lot too, but nobody laughs at my jokes that much.

I always find the presence of friends makes everything so much more fun. There are games that I barely ever play alone, but when I get a friend or group of friends and we run around doing stuff it's just a great time all around.

When it isn't provided, I like to give characters their own voice, and sometimes a theme song or two for the more prevalent ones. Mario cart is just a time to make up theme songs for my friends and I xP

I make my own challenges and see how far I can go, such as playing a game without losing a life. I tend to do these challenges if I'm bored of playing the same thing over and over.

I like immersion mods. One mod I'm using in Skyrim is Frostfall. If you don't know what it is, basically it adds a thing in there where you can freeze to death. If you get wet, you lose body heat. The air temperature changes based on where you are and time of day (i,e, it's colder at night than during the day and it's colder in Windhelm than it is in Falkreath). You slowly lose body heat over time so you have to carry an axe, firewood, and a tinderbox with you at all times so a follower is recommended. Which is why i also have Convenient Horses because it allows your followers to have a horse as well.

Of course that's just Skyrim. I don't really do much with other games other than just have them set to the max my system can run them at.

Borderlands 2 is a LOT of fun when you have 4 people playing.

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.

Friends make any game fun, Destiny for example is a pretty boring game when playing alone. Add friends into the mix and it makes it one of the most addicting games out there.

I'm not much a fan of mods myself, seeming as my pc experience only extends to that of team fortress 2 and World of Warcraft.

So all I can say is play with friends. And if there is a game you like that none of your friends like, find some people to play it with. Be it on the forums or some other website.

The amount of time I've spent playing super smash bros. 3ds just because my friends own some copies as well far surpasses the time I would've spent playing it on my own. Same goes for Gmod and WoW.

Mods are definitely a great way of adding replay value to a game. I modded the heck out of Morrowind and Oblivion and I still frequently play the likes of Skyrim and New Vegas, which still have very active modding communities. It's like DLC for free and of massive variety! :squee:

And of course I force encourage my friends to buy games and play with me. L4D is surprisingly never boring as long as you have some good buddies rolling with you, and I'd have probably shot myself if I'd had to play the grind fest of Destiny alone.. Now if we can only ever get around to playing Halo again..
