Obviously, but where are they used?

I have no clue what these are. :|

Text editors are used for programming, writing markup (like HTML), editing configuration files, and so on. Anything where the focus is on reading, editing, and manipulating text, and not on adding fancy formatting like bold or italics.

They differ from word processors, which focus more on formatting text. There is some overlap though, and a word processor like Microsoft Word can be used as a text editor — it's just not very convenient.

You use a Mac, right? Probably the best free one (or at least it was a few years ago when I last had a Mac) for Mac OS X is TextWrangler. You do already have a text editor installed though — there's a terminal-based text editor called "nano" which comes pre-installed on all Macs.

Is there a way to fix that? :T

If you press "Edit" on the first post in the thread, and then click the "Use Full Editor" button, there should be a drop-down at the top where you can unselect "SPOILER".

Notepad++. Simplier - is better.

Also FAR manager default editor, when I need quick edit something without new window opening.

You need it, if your work with plain text files, only.

Default Windows notepad is for example.
