"Make ready!

A guard captain said out loud.

"No, please! We are not sick! We are NOT sick! " Cried a poor mare, holding her foal deep in an embrace, tears falling down her face, several other ponies around them, all that surrounded by a group of Guardsmen, armed, and holding their pistols out.

"Please!"

"Take aim!"

The surrounding guards lowered their guns, each aiming for a separate head with their pistols. Coughing could be heard as the ponies by the wall stood in shock, facing their executioners.

In the corner, far away, observing the situation was a lightly armored and cloaked stallion. He look upon the scene before him, guilt and grief filling his body. He tried to look away, but then the poor foal looked straight at him from under his mothers protective embrace.

Dark Star felt pierced, wanting to step in and stop the scene before him, but knowing he couldn't, they were infected, and he was a renowned officer, with little but some power of saving people. Tossing it away would only work backwards on the city.

"P-please! At least spare my son! P-*cough*-please... " The mare begged, facing the eye of the captain as she hugged what was the more valuable to her, brushing the colts mane gently.

What seemed like forever was mere seconds.

"Fire!"

With a loud bang that echoed the alleyway along the sound of screams and soon followed by silence and bodies falling to the paved road. Dark Star kept looking at the scene, as blood splattered on the wall, and soon started flooding in between the cracks on the ground, silence filling the air.

The old captain looked away and went over to hooded stallion.

"Well, lieutenant, good job as always. You brought more criminals to justice. " A steady and deep voice spoke to him, he wanted to not face him, and just leave, but he kept up, looking the captain straight in his eyes, seeing no emotion in them.

"I-its my duty, captain. Them hiding in one of the populated districts and not joining the others in the infected ones was a crime, and good thing it led to nothing more. " Dark Star spoke, feeling disgusted at his own words, he knew if he showed weakness things wouldn't end well for him.

"Good, well, your investigations have been proving very useful ever since the beginning of the plague, perhaps you should try and advance to the next rank. You are a talented one. Would be glad to see someone like you as a fellow captain. "

He then saluted and Dark Star saluted back, and the executioner platoon left, leaving the bodies. Them being already in one of the sealed off districts, the place where dead bodies usually are dumped anyway.

As they left Dark Star inspected the dead, just before he was to leave he saw the poor mare, he then reminded of her kid, lifting her up he saw what he saw, a shocked foal, looking at him, being completely at his mercy. Both sides were speechless.

After what seemed like minutes Dark Star checked the foal and saw no signs of infection on him. He then picked him up with magic and put him on all legs in front of him.

"I-I'm sorry... " Dark Star spoke out, looking at the poor child, he then pulled out some bits and gave them to the 'boy'. "Listen, I can lift you up to the window of the building behind you. The door is sealed... I hid some food and water in there not long ago, just in case I was sent here myself. You survive three days, and I will return and find you here. If you won't show signs of infection I will smuggle you in, and you can live with me, then I can try and smuggle you out of the city if I can. " He knelt down, still looking at the poor thing. "Stay strong. "

Before he proceeded to lift the foal up to the broken window, the kid gave him a light hug.

Lighting up his horn he lifted the foal, then the young stallion climbed up and inside.

Checking if everything was done, and it was he proceeded to leave, heading towards the exit of the district that was just around the corner.

In the shadows of a nearby alley, a shocked pony had just witnessed the massacre that had just held place, terrified and horrified.

"By Cadance's love, how could they have done that?" She whispered, almost inaudibly. She didn't dare moving, though, nor making a sound, until the last of the guards had gone, in fear of being mixed with the ill.

She had been wondering about the more decrepit parts of what was leftover of Canterlot, running from all and any ponies, and she had just run off from another pegasus, who had started coughing next to her. She rapidly looked over her shoulder, to see if that pegasus had actually followed her, and turned back, only to witness a short moment of kindness.

She stood widemouthed while witnessing a guard save a small foal, and hide him in a higher store of a nearby building, and almost broke in tears, at the brief reminder of warmer, and sweeter times. She bit her lips to keep herself from tearing up, she feared making a noise.

The sky hung low in its grey, dismal overcast; as it did for many days, it seemed as of late. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen the Sun, and often wondered if it even rose anymore. With the Princesses been gone for so long, time always felt slow, yet fleeting; when day turned to night, nopony knew. Even weather seemed rare, aside from the constant grey clouds that loomed overhead. The only time it rained was when the guards deemed it, and even then, it was usually to wash away bloodstains from the streets, or worse - to sweep away the infected.

Poetry had seen it all.

She had emerged from her cellar with a swift kick of her hind leg, the hood of her cloak tugged up over her mane. She had heard hooves drumming by overhead and intended to find out what was going on. From past experience, it could be one of many things; the Guards hounding infected, either the Feather Pub or Deathwatch gangs on the move, or even - she hoped - survivors skirting in the shadows. Swiftly, silently she trotted along behind the shadows that loomed against the walls as they moved towards the neighboring District of Death. Poe grit her teeth, but she had to know what was going on; with a hardened resolve, she slipped in behind them, obscured by the shadows.

Poe didn't even flinch at the confrontation, too busy jotting down notes with use of her magic to try and intervene with the inevitable execution. She hated it, oh did she hate it, but she had seen this all too often to let it get to her. Not that it didn't; at least not in public, where she had to put on a brave face if she were ever going to inspire other survivors. For every foal, mother and father gunned down in the streets, Poe wrote a poem for them by night, and each one she cherished and carried with her in her heart.

A muffled sigh escaped her when the deed was done, and with a quick look to the sky in an act of silent prayer, she began to step forward. Their sacrifices were never in vain; for every pony killed, information was gathered to spread to others so that they may survive. Normally she would get a closer look at the victims to jot down descriptions but she froze in her steps as a stallion - one, she noted, that had been with the Guard - approached the bodies. Now, this was unusual; Poe quickly stashed her notepad back into her saddlebag and killed her magic, the glow fading from her horn. She pressed herself against a building wall and watched... what was he doing...?

A survivor! Poe grit her teeth and lowered herself, ready to gallop at a moment's notice if the stallion had intentions to finish the job. Not if she could help it. Yet... she froze again, this time in shock, as the colt was lifted by the stallion - who Poe now noted was a Unicorn - and sent to seeming safety. This... went against her notes! The Guards didn't help their victims, at least not the ones she had documented, unless... unless this one was actually pure of heart, such a rare trait nowadays. Straightening herself, Poe stomped a hoof and emerged from her hiding spot.

"By the stars, I have witnessed mercy." Came her somewhat muffled voice, the dim light of their surroundings revealing the bandages wound around her muzzle, a seeming safety precaution to the plague. "But who are you to give it? I thought nopony in the City Guard was capable of it any longer." Poe paused, her head inclining slightly, a suspicious gleam in her eye.

((THis song fits this for some reason.))

Mezra quickly ran though the empty streets of the sealed off city after she heard the loud gunshots. She knew what it meant whenever you heard it. It meant someone got to close to the gate or they were infected. And they they would sadly be tossed into a shallow grave, to be forgotten. Which Mezra couldn't stand.

As she got closer to where she heard the sound, she was panting heavily under her leather old stile doctors mask she wears to keep the guards from marking her if they ever saw her face and to keep her from getting sick herself. When she got to the gats she could see someone near a body.

She could make out a stallions voice. When she got closer she could see that the stallion was talking to a colt. Mostly like the massed mares child. Which made Mezra very sad. But When she saw the stallion hold the child into a home she started to feel more hopeful for things. After the stallion left, Mezra quietly ran over to the poor mares body. Then she used her magic to lift her up onto her back and then ran off to her lab.

But not before taking out a piece of chocolate She was saving for later. She looked over to the window  she saw the colt climbed into. She walked over and levitated the chocolate into the room for the colt to find.  She couldn't do much for the colt, but maybe his mother could help her with her research.

Then she took off.

Dark Star froze in place and looked at the mare, staying silent. He thought someone was watching him, if someone saw what he did he could get in trouble, huge trouble.

"M-mercy? It was me that got most of the ponies there arrested and killed in the first place.

He sneezed as the dust of the street got to his nose. He turned back to face the random mare, grief visible on his face. Much raced through his mind, not knowing what to do now, if she wasn't friendly she could speak this out to the guards, or since she knows the position of the young colt hurt him. So he decided to inspect in further.

"Not all the guards are soulless law following killers. Sadly, those who don't give into the system usually end up under a wall like these folk. " He pierced her with his un-trustful and unsure gaze. Dark Star was ready to take out his pistol or sword any time if he had to, not feeling comfortable in the situation and not noticing the body stealing going on behind them.

Cosmic Star held her breath at the sight of the mare in the biohazard suit. In her state of mind, Mezra looked like a vision from Tartarus before the pegasus' eyes, and she even forgot for a second about the presence of the guard who had just helped the colt. She stepped backwards before she saw the mare's kind act, and tripped on some leftover thrash, falling over a metallic bin, which tipped over and clattered on the floor of the dark alley. Cosmic Star froze in fear, realizing she had just given away her position.

@@Cosmic Star,

Dark Star hears the sound and pushes the mare to the side pulling out his pistol and trying to localize where it came from, looking at the dark alleys.

"Hmm... probably just a rat...

He slowly walked towards the alley where he thought the sound came from and he spotted Cosmic, lying there. He didn't know who she was or if she was infected or friend or foe as he aimed his pistol at her, still wary of the pony behind him, not trusting her and ready to do anything if needed to be done.

"Who are you? What were and are you doing here?"

Cosmic Star's eyes widened when she saw the stallion approach, but she couldn't even keep herself quiet anymore when she saw the pistol pointed at her. She started whimpering, and scrambled to try to get up, while she stuttered, trying to make cohesive words.

"D-D-don't sh-shoot! P-please! I didn't do anything, p-please, spare me!" She begged out loud.

Dark Star was at such a tough position, knowing his guard rules, hanging around these two mares in the infected district being illegal, and people could call him a conspirator. He kept his aim on the pony, eyeing her carefully. Something told him to shoot, but he didn't listen, and kept his aim. Feeling wrong about treating the mare like this and it being quite visible.

He didn't bother saying a word, as he pulled his gun up, still ready for anything. He felt like these two mares were a threat to the poor kid he is trying to keep alive. He knew he should have used more caution.

Gabriel was silently watching the entire scene play out below him as he clung to a smoke-billowing chimney. The sounds of gunfire still rang in his ears, his wife and kids probably suffered the same fate. Gabriel didn't notice his retractable sword slipping out of his pocket, he had to sneak in and steal that sword from the wealthy district, suddenly Gabriel's sword fell out of his pocket and fell to the ground, right next to Dark Star making an extremely loud clattering sound on the stone roadway. The only thing Gabriel could do was stand there and wait for his death to come.

Green eyes narrowed as she stared down the stallion, calculating. She sniffed at his statement, taking a step back for a moment and casting her gaze elsewhere, seemingly in thought. 'Not all the guards are soulless law following killers', the idea rang through her ears, ignited an excitement in her that hadn't been felt in a long time. Perhaps this was the way to go? Weed out the good from the bad and reform from there?

"Good." She finally replied, standing up straight. "Everypony has caused death at some point nowadays, inadvertently or... otherwise." She mentally flinched, thinking back to her sister that had turned on her. There was no helping it. "All that matters now is if your intentions are good. And yours clearly are. So why do you-" But she was caught off at the sudden noise and the stallion rushing forward, pistols drawn. A small 'tsk' escaped her and she joined his side, peering into the shadows.

"Put them away." She hissed sideways at the stallion as she pressed forth to the mare's side. Poe recognized her; she had seen the mare darting around in the past, but could never quite reach her. She knew the other was a survivor, but simply fearful of others... as she rightfully should be. But what was she doing here? "There there, its fine." Poe murmured, offering a hoof to the mare.

Yet another noise snapped to her attention and she turned towards another roadway, where a shadow lingered and a sword lay on the ground. Poetry's eyes hardened and she looked to the stallion, giving him a nod and gesturing her head in the direction of the noise, as if to tell him to check it out. She didn't want to risk being caught by a straggling guard in these parts of the city.

After his sword clattered on the road below him, Gabriel saw the three ponys gather in the centre of the junction. They had obviously heard his sword land on the ground because the green eyed mare nodded toward it lying on the road below him.

"Oh god, don't look up, don't look up"

Dark Star noticed and recognized the object right away, looking up he noticed the spy and didn't hesitate his actions.

Taking a fast stance at the entrance to the dark alley he pulled his gun up and within what seemed like a second took aim and fired, hoping that his aim won't fail him.

He didn't bother to check who it was, he knew the person was spying on them, and they were armed, and clearly wasn't a guard. He wasn't going to take his chances once more and wanted to deal with it.

(I wanted to wait for Cosmic to respond, but, whatever.)

(OOC: Sorry, had business)

Cosmic Star took the moment that Dark turned to see the spy as her chance for survival, and scrambled to her hooves and began making her escape from the forming crowd. She didn't even stop to think as of the risks, all that she knew was that away from the pistol, and from the ponies, was the way to go. She ran down the alley in a frenzy.

The bullet from Dark Stars gun sped straight into Gabriel's shoulder, instantly dislocating it. The blood that exploded from the wound made the rooftop slippy, causing Gabriel to fall down from the roof and break 3 ribs as he slammed onto the stone road, the only sounds heard are that of the fall itself, and Gabriel attempting to speak.

(OOC: Isn't Dark Star part of the feather pub gang with Gabriel?)

Mezra was still currying the mars body though the dark streets, ducking into alleys whenever she sees gang wandering through the streets. Looking for anyone to shake down. Mezra's lab was a good bit away from the gangs a guards posts, which was why she set up there. But it did make things trickier for her to bring in new bodies. She couldn't really ask for help. Most ponies would frown upon her work. And even if she did get some help, they would most likely treat the bodys poorly and with no respect.

A small groan of exasperation escaped Poe as the mare ran off in a frenzy towards the district's exit. She understood why the mare had been skittish; after all, she was just looking down the barrels of two guns. It was survival first, in the end. Besides, she got a good read on the mare's face and complexion, there was no doubt in Poe's mind that she could locate the mare at a later time... when there wasn't such chaos afoot. She tsk'd again and turned back around towards the stallions, eyes narrowing, thoughts racing through her head; what was the game-plan? Who was he confronting?

'So much for a stealth mission.' Poe thought bitterly as the loud crack of gunfire met her ears, causing them to flick down instinctively. She reared on her hind-legs and darted forwards to the stallion's side.

"Do you want to wake the dead?" she hissed sideways at the stallion before looking upon the fallen one at their feet, wincing slightly. "That must have been a nasty fall." she added quietly, igniting her horn to life and using magic to try and levitate the second stallion's body, as if she meant to suspend him mid-air. "Who is this?" Poe glanced sideways at the first stallion, a brow raised.

Cosmic Star ran, and ran, until she lost the other ponies from sight, turning on different directions are every cornering, zigzagging, and even taking unconventional routes. She'd rather be lost from her way to her hiding area, and then spend the time figuring out where she was, and where did she have to go from there, than risk her life in a much more direct way. After all, she did already fail her mission of the day, to find more food, whichever type, and from whatever source she could come accross, she didn't want worse things to happen.

When she was exhausted, she slowed down, trying to recompose her ragged breath, and looked around, double checking to make sure that she wasn't followed, once again.

[My character is not yet part of the Feather Pub. ]

He glanced at the person he shot.

"Well, he was a stranger stalking me from a rooftop, with a knife... I believe that was enough to shoot him?

Dark Star didn't regret his action, this random stranger being a threat to his secret. He knew that taking that risk was foolish, and he should have inspected the area more clearly before he helped that foal.

He then noticed the black pegasus ran off.

"Well, that is two problems down... somewhat.

The gun cooled down a bit and Dark Star begun reloading it, putting some gunpowder in, a cartage, then squeezing it  all in. Then he hid it back behind his cloak in its holster.

"So, he is still alive, what do you expect we do with him? ... Or, what do you expect ME to do with him?"

Cosmic Star only realized, after her adrenaline rush went away, that her hiding spot WAS on the direction she had just run from.

"Cosmic, how stupid you can be!? Ugh!" She shamed herself out loud, but then took into consideration those ponies she had just run from. She had to go around, doing a wide circle around the area she had just witnessed the massacre, and been threatened her life, she had to be as safe as she could. Cosmic only hoped she'd not collapse of exhaustion before she reached the hiding spot, or it'd be her end. She started going, watching her surroundings, for any surprise.

"Well, sadly I cannot stand around a bleeding body with a pile of civilians, I am a guard, I have my job to do... If you all don't scram then I wi-" He'd pause as the sound of bells would hit his ears, after several seconds he'd recognize it, a quick hitting of alarm bells in the nearby outpost.

"Darn it, Craver raid! THIS is the part where you scram!

Not bothering to check back he'd give the window up above one more look, and then ran towards the outpost to meet up with the others.

After passing the corner he'd see a small group of 5 guardponies, all armed and ready, observing the area around them.

Suddenly, from down the street weird screeches would be heard as out of cover a big band of Craver bandits would head for the gate, some of them splitting away and tearing apart pieces of buildings and scavenging the homes.

The guards would stand their ground as the creepy band would get closer, them armed with all sorts of weapons, from butchering and kitchen knives to simply pitchforks and scythes.

Dark Star would brace himself in the group, blade drawn and gun out and aimed. He'd take a few steps back, moving to the back row to join his friend who'd speak up to him.

"Where were you?

"Busy, I ran into some civilians who wouldn't give me a break.. and then some sort of assassin whom I shot down.

"Well, plenty more things to shoot now I suppose. I'd be glad... but Cravers? Those things are the creepiest beings alive."

"You know it.

He'd put a hood infront and his gun deadly aimed at one of the Cravers charging, as they'd get in close-ish range the two groups would clash. Pulling the trigger with his magic he'd send a bullet hurling and going though a hostiles neck. They would hardly be outnumbered, the Cravers first teasing the fight and then going defensive to cover their scavengers.

It was clear they were slowly running out of resources so they were forces to go around closer to the watch gates, their raids being rare, but still something the guards were ready for.

As the two sides would clash the guards would hold their ground, both sides ruthlessly fighting each other.

Dark Star would lock his blades with one of the Cravers, him holding a fancy longsword. They'd continue, pressing their strengths against each other. He'd get a better glimpse at the attacker, as he knew, a bandit from an organization known as The Cravers. Not much is known about it from guard records.

As he'd look at the attackers face he'd try and look away in disgust, the what seemed to be a stallion had patch-marks all over his face, with what seemed like pieces of loose skin from some other pony sawn on for decoration. On the other half of his face a simple mask, on his body was some make-do scrappy armor and a cloak.

Dark Star would slowly be winning the lock of strength, pushing the enemy back a bit before he'd jump away, breaking it. With a swift move he'd lunge his rapier forward, breaking the Cravers defense and giving him a light scratch on his unarmored part of the front leg.

The Craver would quickly parry his blade away before it did more damage as he'd counter, getting really close to hitting him, Dark Star putting his blade in the way just in time.

The others around would not be having as much luck either, as the battle would still be anyones. From above sounds of fighting would be heard to as some sort of clearly Pegasi would be assaulting the wall and tower blocking off the district behind them.
