spoiler Will they continue winter in ponyville?

It'd be neat if they did, especially with a future episode taking place in Hearth's Warming Eve, but I don't expect it.

I'd rather not get anal over it though

Pony winter would be pretty interesting.  So far we've mostly seen how ponies amuse themselves in good weather, but it would be interesting to see how the slow season affects them.  What does Fluttershy do with all her animals hibernating?  What do the Apples do without any trees to care for?

I think it's fairly likely we get a winter episode, but I don't think winter will continue in the show for very long because it will limit travel and activity of the Mane 6.

I would really like to see at least one episode that had continual winter weather from the previous one, but I don't think that will happen except for two parter episodes. Winter being my favorite season and all, maybe I am a bit biased but also, it would be a neat little change up I think.

As much as everyone would like to see it happen, it won't happen. The show being set in summer 99% of the time, most of the backgrounds are made for a summer setting. Plus, try explaining to a 7 year old why her favourite T.V. show is set in winter during July.

On a kind of related note, I heard in some kid show, it took 6 months to design and make the sets for the Christmas special. I think it was Peter Rabbit, but I'm not sure.

I would like to see a whole season that takes place in the Winter. However I am guessing that my wish will be fulfilled now that Winter has only just started in the show and unless they do a time jump it should be snowy till the end of the season.

I'm hoping it stays. I'm thinking it might be a possibility just because this season has had so much continuity, but it also might not :/ w'ell see.

I know that the style of animation used for My Little Pony is cheap but by changing the season to Winter, they will have to make new backgrounds and even give the ponies some winter wear which they already have.

If the next episode shows Ponyville without snow then that would mean a time jump of at least 4 to 5 months. I hope it stays though, till the end of Season 5.

Well, in Season 1, they jumped with impunity from the end of winter to the start of fall---it could be any season in any episode, TBH.  I kind of feel like they aren't likely to do winter in an episode, though, unless it's a plot point.

No, because much like pretty much any other cartoon, FiM defaults at a Springy/Summery season for its setting and only ever changes it for plot convenience.

I love winter, so it makes me sad... But I can't see that changing.

The better question is whether Rainbow Dash will be facing a massive lawsuit or jail time any time soon.

The answer of course is no, because only in a cartoon show can you get away with being a complete jerk and endanger people's lives and manage to walk away with it with no consequences.

Well the Pegasi are in charge of the weather so maybe they schedule winter for a few days/weeks intermittently throughout the year and we only get to see it in a couple of episodes without continuity.

I guess they have our seasons but their duration and time of appearance differs from our own.

In the episode applejack says "Tank will be back in a few months" so its at least months. Assuming they fix the weather factory xP

I would love it if they would have the rest of the season taking place in the winter :) Their whole world looks so nice in the snow :)

Right, that's true. Completely forgot about that... here's a silly thought: maybe the weather used to run in a much more normal fashion (like how Everfree forest is described to be natural) so the animals evolved with a specific biological clock controlling their flight patterns and metabolic processes. Then when pegasi found they had the ability to change the weather, animals kept on running on their own preferred biological clocks including with hibernation/brumation while the weather around them changed at the whim of the ponies dominating Equestria.

This would mean at least though they would have to consider the animals habits at the beginning and end of a certain winter, for example, they would have a period of winter starting when the birds would start flying south for winter and they would end winter when the birds would come back like in "Winter Wrap-Up".

It will require a lot of linearity, something the show doesn't have a lot of.

But I guess it'll be taken with the show's collective memory, so that Dash in a future will probably recount this time that Tank went into hibernation.

If I vaguely recall this season does have a bunch of throwbacks.

  • 3 weeks later...

Season continuity is a generel problem in MLP. They try to get some continuity story-wise, but winter repeatedly only lasts one episode, and then there was the Running of the Leaves only two episodes after Winter Wrap Up. This can't just be explained by fast-forwarding. I wish they had paid more attention to the seasonal cycle. I don't like writer laziness (visuals shouldn't be much more effort, just some location assets and such) and deciding to use seasonal weather as a mere plot tool and dump it when it's not needed kinda is that.

Not a bit issue, since the season discontinuity doesn't really jump in one's face, since the show is so enjoyable to watch, but would have been ... lovelier, more immersive.

All you have to do is take a bunch of letters! Add it to the thread! Now just take a little something bold, not italic! A bit of underline, just a pinch! Writing these words is such a cinch! Add a teaspoon of punilla! Add a little more, and you count to four, and you always get your filler... Onehundred! So sweet and tasty! Hundred! Don't be too hasty! Hundred! Hundred, hundred, HUNDRED!
