The plan would be to give each of the Mane 5 and Spike their own separate finale episode to settle their business. Then the Twilight Sparkle finale episode. Last episode is a wind down after the previous episode for the Mane 6 to end it at their leisure.

Starlight Glimmer finally gets what she knows about Twilight and takes her on. Twilight accepts and tells her friends not to follow her. Twilight unfortunately is defeated, so we get to part to, and the Mane Six realize that Twilight hasn't returned and search for her. The Mane Five defeat Starlight Glimmer, and Twilight explains that she couldn't defeat her because she thought she could do it alone. She tells her friends that she needs all of them. Starlight Glimmer realizes that friendship is more powerful than anything, and she ends up being reformed.

Apparently starlight glimmer finds a relic in the mountains to time travel and stop rainbow dash's rainboom which stops the mane 6 from getting their marks. Ive heard a lot of other things about the episode but I won't spoil them here, it's bound to be very interesting.

As much as I like the idea of the premiere villain returning for the finale, I actually kinda hope season 5 ends with no involvement from Starlight Glimmer. It seems like the kind of thing that this show teases, but doesn't follow through; at least not when we expect. Although, we've seen Starlight casing Twilight, so at least she still has a presence. What I would like to see by the end of the season is some clarification, or hell, even a mention Mage Meadowbrook's eight enchanted items. That seemed like a concept that would've had a bit of a presence throughout the season but at this point the concept feels abandoned. As for the actual finale itself, I wouldn't be surprised if the mane six pull some kind of Voltron move with the Rainbow Power, were they all act as one by becoming one. Sounds like a plausible next move to me.

To be honest, Thinking about it, if the 2017 movie were a grand finale, it could be the best way to conclude things.

I'm thinking about transformers prime here; it ended on a VERY good note in the series, with Bumblebee killing megatron and cybertron being revitalized. It could have ended there very well.
But Predacons rising seamlessly added onto an already well done ending, bringing back a beloved villain for an incredibly epic sendoff to the series in a way that wrapped up most of the loose ends and had a very touching feel to it.

 

 

 

 

That being said, I kind of am reminded of the 80s TMNT series, which is what happens when a show is TOO good, in that it is *just* good popular enough to not be canceled, but NOT popular enough to get lots of money and effort put in.

Good lord was that final season of it bad XD (I never watched it as a kid, I just rewatched it on youtube as an adult out of curiosity and its just terrible). I can see FIM going that route if hasbro tries to make it a zombie.

I'm still hoping that once the magical hijinks are out of the way, it comes down to a battle of wits over spells, just to have Starlight with a backup plan to fall on.

Siiiigh, well this season finale was a flop for me

Thouroughly disappointed that it didn't end how I had imagened it, in the op. Or that the cmc weren't the ones to stop Starlight. Or that Twi didn't have tl discover anc throwdown ith Starswirl. Just a full hour of Twilight to the rescue. Again.
