When some "just friends" talk to each other like that - I will only say: yeah, yeah, just friends.

 

And it doesn't really matter whether they did it already or not.

Shippers see what they want to see and no amount of logic will dissuade them

 

Calm down, calm down, you're actually both right if you think about it!  Think about it, the show writers found the perfect way to please both Bon Bon and Lyra shippers and friendshippers.  They're technically best friends in canon (because that's all they could ever make canon), but they also had so much shipping fuel in their interactions.  EVERYBODY WINS!

The references. So. Many. References. xD That episode was truly fantastic though! They honestly didn't go all that over board with it. It was a fun little episode meant to just give a laugh and be enjoyable. I really loved it! It still had a plot too which was good. :3 But seriously, seeing all your favorite background ponies in their own episode was just awesome! Vinyl and Octavia, Derpy and Dr. Whooves, Lyra and Bon Bon, even Button Mash! And of course you can't forget all the other ponies we know and love, but they've shown up in other places!

 

I'd watch it again, and I think I will!

Of course they wouldn't want to cross the line of risk (the line being homosexual couples, which is sad really considering this day and age) but the maker (in this case being Hasbro) obviously made it clear that they are just friends but at the same time did enough to make the shippers happy.

 

They are proven to be "Best Friends" canon wise.

Only one thing to say about this episode.

 

Congratulations to all those people who've written all those classical shipfics making Doctor/Derpy Lyra/BonBon and Vinyl/Octavia fanon!

 

It just been canonised.

 

 

Like I always say, shippers see what they want to see and nothing will make them unsee it no matter how logical, so prepare for an influx of pointless overdone shipfics coming from this episode.

 

The episode itself? Great. Amazing, even.

The fandom's reaction? Won't be. 

 

 

Well, sorta. They didn't do anything specifically romantic and they referred to each other as "friends" numerous times, but you could tell they were teasing the shippers.

 

As long as people treat shipping (and fanfics in general) as the "what if" scenario it is, then it's really isn't an issue. It's when people go overboard and treat their ships like they're canon and tell anyone who disagrees with them that they're wrong that shippers become a problem. *cough* Sonic fandom *cough*

To be honest, I've never been a huuuge background pony fan. I've enjoyed the art and some of the fanfics, but I'd never been able to get into them the way so many people have. And this episode proved that you didn't have to be to enjoy it all . Mayor Mare's speech at the end was a nice and touching moment that rounded out the episode nicely and brought everything back to the same page, after a very chaotic twenty minutes. Lyra and Bon Bon were delightfully fun in particular, and I'm pleased to see that @Batbrony was pandered to in the best possible way . May he drown in more fluffy fanart than ever before.

 

I am also pleased both that Celestia and Luna still do cute sibling things and that Spike (naturally) has his act even more together than they do -_-. Dragon boy is special enough to headline episodes and crash the wedding

Pretty much this. The Lyra/BonBon Best Friends thing was left in a way that you could decide for yourself. So really no side is wrong.

 

I didn't see anything that hinted towards Vinyl and Octavia being a couple. However the roommate thing is now canon!
