gaming Would you buy the oldschool Pokemon games if they were available on 3DS?

Pokemon Red, Pokemon, Blue, and Pokemon Yellow. Those old Gen 1 games that blew the gates of success in the Pokemon Franchise wide open with 10 tons of dynamite. Unfortunately, transferring from G1 to G2 (Gold & Silver) was never made possible, back in the 90's so the classic Pokemon from those beloved oldschool games could never travel through time and wind up in Pokemon X, Y, or ORAS, after a lot of pain of trading up through each generation- only with the right equipment- specific consoles, cables, ect. So what say you guys to Nintendo putting the original Red, Blue, and Yellow back on the market for the 3DS, tweaked only with the ability to deposit Pokemon you obtain there into Pokemon Bank, so they're able to be passed into newer gen games?

In a perfect world, Nintendo would put every old game on their newer consoles. I'd probably buy one of the original versions for nostalgia purposes.

Also, while it's not possible to transfer games from Red and Green to newer versions, I think you can transfer Pokemon from Leaf Green and Fire Red, though you'd need to jump through a lot of hoops.

No. I really wouldn't. While those were the only Pokemon games I've really been into I couldn't go back to them either after playing X. X was at least decent and new. Going back to the days when you had to enter the menu to do anything like using the bike and the Exp Share not coming until the end of the game so you pretty much have to grind...bleh.

Recently, I've just emulated them on my computer. It's not exactly the same, but it's far more convenient. Bulit-in cheating and unlimited save states will make anything 20 percent cooler.

ugh. Fire Red/ Leaf Green is not the same as the original red/ Blue. There's no oldschool graphics and music for people who liked the oldschool games for that reason- because it FELT oldschool, and nostalgia. Additionally, the Sevii islands  in FR/ LG weren't part of the original RBY, there weren't genders, IV's and EV's for competitive battling in the original games (everything was simpler and fresh), no move tutors or deleters, so you had to really put genuine effort into deciding which moves you wanted on your team, which made it more challenging, in a way, and NO JOHTO POKEMON able to be caught at the time of the old games. Fire red/ Leaf green even screwed with Moltres being caught BEFORE you even reached Victory Road, and brought in new TMs. No.

Not really as none of those OG gameboy pokemon games are really that interesting to me and I don't feel the need to play them.  So I wouldn't really think of buying any of them.

Eh, not really. Once you play the newer gen games, there is really no reason to go back to the really old gens since the new ones do everything better and then some.

Well, unless you want to see how pokemon started. That's really the only reason to go back.

No thanks. If you really wanted them, you can just emulate them. I'm not a fan of the first few games anyway.

While there is always emulation, I see no reason for Nintendo to not put the older games on the 3DS store. Considering that Pokemon is their biggest money maker next to Mario, why not just put the classics on the store for those that might want them? Unless they are refusing to do so to later cash in on more remakes. They've put many of the classic Mario games on the store, so they should do the same for Pokemon, but they most likely won't.

I already own them all, so probably not :P

There's also a couple of problems regarding them releasing them on the virtual console. The original game mechanics are completely different than what we have now and they got a serious revamp in generation 3 which introduced incompatibilities. So that's pokemon bank out of the equation. Also, they were really glitchy messes due to the limitations of the gameboy.

I also bet that they're working on or will work on a remake of Kanto because it's so bleeding obvious they're going to do it. Pokemon from FR/LG require a DS to transfer to the latest generation and they dropped GBA support partway through the DS' life at the DSi series. It might make sense if they want to build up hype, but even then, would it make sense to release a pokemon game which is completely incompatible with the current generation?

I immediately thought of the slow-ass trek at the start of early Pokemon games.  And having to acquire the running shoes before you could outpace a snail.

So no.

The biggest problem with this idea is how outdated RBY is. While they were certainly a hit back in the day, it may be annoying to get into to those who are new to the franchise. Compare RBY to XY, for example. While the latter has more care put into it from little to no glitches, to the wide range of Pokémon to the easier battling mechanics, the former mostly does the opposite. Glitches are everywhere, the first 151 Pokémon aren't interesting enough, the battling mechanics are botched, the PC system is frustrating to handle... just because RBY is nostalgic to some people doesn't automatically mean that it's any better than the other Pokémon games. If Game Freak were to create something that relates to RBY, then it would be another remake that is more polished and easier to handle.

So no, I wouldn't like them to be on the Nintendo eShop. I'm already happy with what Pokémon has been getting in the ways of games recently, anyway.

Personally I don't see why they can't. They should be available to those who still enjoy them(despite the game's aged mechanics) as well as those who still want to try them out.

So yes, I'd still probably get them, even if they also had FireRed and Leaf Green available too

No because I already own them. Releasing them with a Gen 6 compatibility would be a very nice gesture though.

Heck yeah i'm buying one, I'll probably buy Yellow since I never got to play it. Oh, but I do really want Bulbasaur, not a stupid Pikachu..

On second thought maybe I'll just get Red.

It's alright, you can get all 3 starters in Yellow (but not weedle...)

I want G/S/C on the VC because the cartridges have that whole internal clock issue that ruins them. I think all of mine are effected. D:

I'll probably still pick up one of R/B/Y since I'm so happy they're finally adding them.

However, as Galaxy stated earlier in this topic, R/B/Y and G/S/C are very clunky games. Even if you can get past the graphics, they're just rife with pain-in-the-butt issues that most people have probably forgotten since they've been fixed ever since, like anything and everything related to the PC and Pokemon storage.

Unfortunately I've heard that the game is unchanged except for Wi-Fi trading compatibility.
