Body Language(Do actions speak louder than words?)

I think this topic is an interesting topic to post, Its fascinating how our bodys subconscious, inadvertent reaction to verbal stimuli, can portray our feelings or emotions. What if any are your thought on this subject, do you catch, or notice the body language others give off, and what has it told you of others in, and throughout your life.

I find body language fascinating; check out this chart

Hands firmly on the hips while talking demonstrates confidence, folded arms, looking down is defensive body language, showing a lack of confidence.

One of my personal takes on the subject is that body language, is unfortunately, inherently dichotomous along gender lines in our society and 'submissive' body language like the second row of Kyle's posted image goes along with my actual gender expression. I don't personally believe that myself, it's BS, but I do personally fit in the model. I'm naturally prone to being submissive and showing the appropriate body language off.

With me, it definitely speaks just as well as words. I am very expressive with my hands and arms when I get to talking a lot, especially if I am passionate or obsessed with what I am discussing. I actually find it easier to get into conversations with others that do that too because it is both relatable and it just seems more engaging to me. That is likely an instinctual thing.

Oh believe you me, it speaks far more than words

With just a short observation you can literally tell everything down to what genre of book they like the most

Or how sensitive they are

Or whom they like the best

Or what they are hiding

Or what makes them react

Or exactly who they are as a person, down to the smallest and most minute detail

All these little social cues all add up to make on bigger picture, such as a small glance telling you the contents of a book and the well used expressions on their faces showing exactly who they are when you aren't looking.

Kyle up above here has put that picture of the absolute basics, something that even a child would know. However, it is far more than that, for the eyes are quite literally windows to the soul

If a painting is a thousand words, a person is a million

Oh yeah thats dramatic, gonna put that as my signature or something :3

I firmly agree that actions speak a lot louder than words. There have been countless amount of times when someone says something and doesn't follow through. However, when they do something instead of saying it, it speaks a lot louder than what they say.

It speaks louder to those who can read it whether consciously or subconsciously. Life is an enternal power struggle of dominance and submission. We express ourselves in ways that establish this in our social interactions, we also use this language to express how we feel even if we don't want to. Therefore I would say it speaks louder but only to those who read it.

Definitely especially in places where I work where people seem so “friendly” but their body language tells a completely different story. It’s clear who’s messing around with who, who dislikes each other, who’s flat out lying to your face and so on. It’s a must know because it reveals a lot about people.

Like I always know when this one girl is lying to me because she looks away when she’s lying but when she tells the truth she makes eye contact. When she’s lying to leadership(kissing butt) she’ll look them in the eyes but has this fearful look in her eyes. A deer in headlights sort of look. Especially when she throws people under the bus. A cowardly snake. She tries to speak tough but her eyes always show fear.

Another would be this guy who works in the area right next to mine. Just his body language and the way he walks alone gives off someone who thinks they’re in charge and runs the show. He’s not one. When he’s walking over to me a certain way he’s about to throw his opinion/try to tell me how to do my job. He doesn’t have to even say anything, just seeing him walk tells me we’re about to get into it.

Body language is definitely a major form of expression. I gesticulate wildly even when I'm not saying anything very interesting. It's like a ballet of words and motion that both work in concert to convey an idea. Speech without body language, or anything without body language is a seriously deficient way to get an idea across.

I think with most people it's true. Some very withdrawn people have a tendency to not know how to comport themselves physically when interacting with others, I've noticed. But you can just tell those people aren't comfortable talking to another human face-to-face and it definitely makes it much harder to 'understand' the person, I've found. I myself am not much of a people person and do a lot of acting in my day to day life- a lot of very overly cheerful greetings and uncomfortable eye contact with an almost customer service-y demeanor. I am definitely not that kinda person in real life, but I just don't want to immediately jump on someone's bad side I guess.
