While it's most likely just a friend, I wouldn't be surprised if it's her mother.

 

I consider my mother my friend and I know other people do as well...

If I can find the comment by Meghan Mccarthy's San Diego ComicCon interview... I'd show the possibility. However, my friend has the site not me. 

 

It's fun to speculate though, and I don't see it to be impossible.

Its not going to be her mother. Its her friend. Plus, an apple having a cutie mark that's NOT an apple would break the space time continuum and delete equestria from existence.

 

I still find the cutie mark interesting in that Lena' hall's character's cutie mark is basically twilight's cutie mark except with Musical notes instead of stars. (Which makes the SECOND cutie mark that's twilight's cutie mark showing up this season, as the fat pony from canterlot carosel  had a cutie mark copying twilight's.)

That's not Applejack's mom, but this is the episode I'm waiting for. Season five is turning out to be the emotion season, and in my opinion that's wonderful! I never thought it would ever happen, but this weekend I actually cried joyful tears for Diamond Tiara!
