spoiler How would you write the season 5 finale?

So here's the official sypnoses for the season 5 2-parter...(Warning: Pretty spoilery)

S05E25 The Cutie Re-Mark Part 1 (First Aired: Unknown)

Starlight Glimmer returns to seek vengeance on Twilight and her friends and has acquired a spell that could change the past, present, and future of Equestria forever.

S05, E26 The Cutie Re-Mark Part 2 (First Aired: Unknown)

Princess Twilight's efforts to stop Starlight from altering the past continue, but she fears that they may be in vain.

So, yeah. Time spell shenanigans confirmed, for those who were spoiled ahead of time, from the animatic. Given what we know from that and the sypnoses (and the spoiled conclusion in Equestria Girls), how would YOU write the happenings of these two episodes? Is it more than just 'SG shows up with a time spell that effs up the past, prvents the Sonic Rainboom from appenning, thus Mane 6 never getting their cutie marks'? Would you write the CMC in to save the day? Twi at a loss to defeating SG, and summoning Future Twilight, again, and working with the CMC to save the day?

If I could write the episodes, it'd go something like this:

- Starlight uses her attack and control through separation of their cutie marks tactic, again, but with a twist. The episode would start with SG shows up in Twilight's castle after secretly obsering Twi, surprising Twi and friends. SG lies, claiming she has changed, but then Throws them all back in time, to before the sonic Rainboom. Since armed with a time spell, she would've had to practice to use it properly, so SG would've known how to defeat Twi by implementing strategic checkmates- like Sombra-esque foresight and planning with traps and countermeasures.

But with the CMC playing in the castle, they witness the events, hide, and the pressure is on Sweetie to learn a time spell to bring the mane 6 back.

So first Starlight separating the Mane 6 from each other, rather than sending to one point in the past, all together. Then, utilizing the powers of the Smooze to prevent their powers from being used against her, then taking their marks again, with Twilight's mark being taken last.

Starlight makes her getaway back to the now altered present, with it being up to Twilight to follow, while Smoozed, get through the traps laid out for her that make it difficult to follow SG to the present, and find a way- without magic and without her friends or others to help- to save the day. But ultimately, she fails in the mental game, getting stuck, and with a plot twist, it's the secondary group leader, the resourceful and level-headed Apple Jack, who manages to escape, catch up with Twi, reassure her, and continue the chase against Starlight.

With how her friends are like family to her, and her determined, “I'll take on anything” attitude that we saw when she tackled the flame geyser swamp and chimera to save Apple Bloom in “Somepony to Watch over me”, I would love to see her taking the heroine role with her friends in danger (especially since many seem to think she's a “background pony”). And further set in stone that she's the secondary leader of the 6.

With the theme of this season is “cutie mark magic”, I'd like to see the finale wrapped up with Starlight managing to use Twilight's cutie mark, merging it with her own, or simply taking off her own and replacing it with Twilight's, becoming an alicorn (like I thought she would, with Twi's mark, in the premiere), and ultimately, AJ realizing she's outclassed, about to get defeated. Sweetie Bell, in the present, accidentally summons Future Twilight, from "it's about time" with the time spell, and Future Twi performs the time spell, herself, taking the CMC into the past where SG sent the mane 6, to get them to help the 6 remember the light of their marks of their future selves.

Time loops happen, with time spells running at once, in the same place. Celestia, in Starlight's altered present, (since many people seem to demand more from her =_= ) taking measurements to recall her former student, Sunset Shimmer, who takes alicorn Starlight on, horn to horn, with the jewel elements of harmony, reclaims the mane 5's cutie marks from her (which could possibly still home the spirits of friendship within them, since their friendship came about through their cutie marks, according to “The cutie mark Chronicles”), and defeats Starlight; returning the cutie marks to their owners, as Future Twi and CMC arrive with the mane 6, successfully getting them past Starlight's traps and time loops. The present is restored, and Sunset makes peace with Celestia, and (hopefully) staying in Eqestria, being given over to Luna, by sunbutt, as her student/ protege.

Time travel? Well, it obviously needs to include Doctor Whooves. But, it would be cool if the CMC saved the day. It would work well with the plot considering they got their cutie marks to help others get theirs.

Give Starlight Glimmer a backstory. Starlight Glimmer's methods are already very interesting as far as MLP villains go, but she ran away before any background could be established. Now's their chance to expand on it. My headcanon is that Starlight Glimmer is a magic student who was spurned by envy towards the greater achievements of others with equal talent to her, thus her ideology reactively achieves equality of outcome by enforcing equality of talent.

I was also going to suggest giving the ReMane 5 and/or other characters more time in the spotlight as well, but the synopsis doesn't seem to allow for much of this, being dependent on an ability only Twilight and Starlight possess. But if the episode has an opportunity for the ReMane 5 or even the second-string characters to shine, don't pull a "Twilight's Kingdom". Don't contrive other characters out of the plot in order to force the solution onto Twilight. You have hundreds of characters in this show and it's all about social connections and self-improvement. Why not use them?

I also can't guess what role Spike is going to have or how this plot would affect his role in the episode, but the writers should give this guy some damn respect for once. Writing him out of the season premiere was the most merciful route they could have gone with him considering he probably would have had nothing to do in it anyway. However, this being a Twilight-centric episode, he will probably be more prominent, especially considering the potential involvement of past events. Hopefully the use of past events in the episode will draw attention to times when Spike was actually useful for something other than comic relief, and consequentially inspire the writer of the episode to go easy on him and maybe give him a moment or two without ruining it with a dumb gag like in the ending of "Princess Spike".

How would I write it? Without the stupid time travel nonsense. That is the one thing I would not do at all. I HATE time travel plot points in shows like this that do not need them. It was funny that first time because it played into the moral and was a funny little way to go about the episode but this? This just seems like a giant waste of time. So I would write the episode without that stuff. There is a reason why I am not looking forward to the finale much.

I have not thought entirely on how I would write it in full mainly because for me personally that seems like a waste of time. How I would write it though, simply put, Starlight is able to gain enough power to nab the Cutie Marks of the Princesses and essentially hold them hostage. She becomes a dictator that rapidly gains power as more and more ponies fall to her ideals. Not out of force, but many are convinced that she is right. This could lead into the moral that the cutie marks are part of who we are and being ourselves is very important, that would be cool to see.The Mane 6 have to go about this in a certain way, not sure how but this is just my random idea. I still think this would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the time travel rubbish. Seriously, I have a lot of confidence in the writer's 99% of the time, I go with it, but this time, I just don't know.

I know, I am complaining about that a lot, I am vocal. :P

that's not a bad idea, actually. I would've liked to see that hapen. I mean, she stole one of the most powerful alicorn's CM, she could steal the other three's

I'm not a fan of te time travel stuff, either. I was just tryig to work with what I got.

- Get rid of the time travel angle. Seriously. Very rarely does anything good come from these kinds of plots.

- Have the mane six all contribute meaningfully, rather than just having Twilight and the Damsel 5.

I will answer the question once I see the finale for myself as a lot of assumptions are being made here

This basically.

And while I, and many others, are pretty good at criticizing the writing within some episodes and movies....I'm pretty sure the writers still do a great job regardless of what we think.

Us: YOUR WRITING STINKS! TOO MANY PLOT HOLES AND THAT IDEA WAS STUPID

Writer 1: Did you hear something?

Writer 2: Huh? Oh no. Can't hear anything over all this money we're making.

Writer 1: You're write. Okay let's start working on the next episode and see if we should bless the fans with a little fanservice in this one.

All writers: muahahahahaha!

I'd have it so that in part two, Starlight Glimmer screws up and accidentally makes one of the many villains that the Mane Six fought in the past win instead of lose, and when she returns to the present, they rule over Equestria and she realized she screwed up big time and has to begrudgingly find a way to fix it with the Mane Six's help.

Yes, more redemption. We need more of it.

I would like to see more about starlight glimmer. She doesn't have much backstory.

past that, avoid having starlight glimmer outright fight the mane six. Having her outfight all six of them would just strain my suspension of disbelief as she's not anywhere near the power tier of previous villains (Discord, tirek or even chrysalis), as without her OP spell hax (which twilight showed she could negate, and dash honestly should be able to dodge pretty easily too) she's not that bid of a deal.
have instead Starlight focus on fleeing from them and using her apparent ability to time travel to avoid them.

I'd kind of like a final showdown where she tries to steal all six of their Cutie marks to be able to overpower them/transform into an alicorn, but I doubt that'll happen.

As long as it doesn't have the other 5 reduced to power batteries, it will at least be better than FG. (though the fact that they did that in FG doesn't fill me with much hope for this two parter, since the EQG movies and the two parters have a tendency to mirror each other a bit)

I'm happy at least that its not doing a repeat of S4 with twilight's map episode being the finale.

Actually, I wonder if there's a spell that would negate an event in the past from happening. I mean, if you guys proposed alteration of PPF (Past, Present, Future) without Time Travel, this would be how.

Also, I don't think the princesses will be involved here. SG's anger was towards Twilight after all. Maybe after she successfully executed her plan, she'd start world domination.

Aside from all this, let's look at the factsshall we?

1. 2nd synopsis: SG altering the past continue

2. 1st Synopsis: That could alter PPF forever

3. Clip from SDCC : Twilight talked about her CM discovery (Sonic Rainboom), SG showing up at Twilight's castle.

4. EQG3: Time travel loop

Gathering the pieces should give you a gist. Most likely time travel. I hope the writer could wrap the arc in an epic fashion. Speaking of which, Finale is written by Meghan right?

There has not been any confirmation of who is writing the finale yet, but I would say there is a good chance the finale is written by McCarthy.

And while I, and many others, are pretty good at criticizing the writing within some episodes and movies....I'm pretty sure the writers still do a great job regardless of what we think.

That's the spirit.

I would rather have the writers tell the story they want to tell regardless of how others might think it, and whatever happens I expect there to be the usual response both good and bad.

the writers are going to tell the story they want to tell, either way. What's wrong with speculating on what could go down, beforehand, and imagining the episode events? Asking people on how they would write it isn't any different than speculation, since that's all it boils down to.

Fair point, as there is no real harm in speculation provided one does not get to attached to it as far as expectations go. Maybe I am being too cautious.

Frankly I would like some more details of these episodes at the very least so I can get a better handle of the concept of these episodes in question.
