So, which are some of your favorite urban legends related to the world of gaming?

Even though these rumors are usually always hoaxes, it's kinda amusing to read about them sometimes. Some notable examples include being able to resurrect Aerith in FF7, the myriad of myths surrounding the GTA series, the infamous Polybius, and many others.

Probably the myriad of Pokemon myths would be the one's I remember most fondly, Red and Blue especially. The amount of rumors surrounding that truck you could find near the S.S. Anne was insane, like defeating the Elite Four 365 times to make a "year" pass and have the ship return.

 

There was even more outlandish ones like having Lickitung evolving into Luigi if you fed it a Rare Candy while holding your Game Boy upside down.   

 

I remember a few more ridiculous ones like that, such as chucking your gameboy into a ditch and prank calling some hardware store to unlock all Pokemon. Trollish behavior indeed, but I remember those kind of "tips" being prolific back when the games were first released.

 

And, of course, who can forget all the rumors surrounding MissingNo.?

My favorite urban legend is definitely Polybius

 

 

Both mysterious and creepy. A game that was in Oregan suburbs, it got insanely popular, yet people who played it eventually went crazy. "Men in Black" would also collect data every so often. It then disappeared in a month.

 

It got famous enough to get a mention in both The Simpsons and Wreck-it-Ralph

As someone mentioned already, my favorite urban legends were the Pokemon ones. I loved reading about the mythical pokemon Pikablu. It's a blue pikachu that was supposed to be water & electric type and could evolve into a blue form of Raichu called Raiblu. It was also supposed to be pokemon # 999. I wish there was a way to ask Nintendo to make Pikablu a pokemon in a future game.

 

There were also rumors of a Pikared, Pikagreen, and Pikayellow as well. Pikayellow never made much sense to me since Pikachu is already yellow.

I'd say FNAF has one of the best urban legends as of recently . It just has so many questions that are still left unanswered.

I loved the pokegod rumors from the rby days. Of course they all turned out to be total bs, but it wasn't entirely to me. With gameshark in hand, I used glitch Pokemon under the misconception that they were actually secrets Nintendo put in the game

 

One time I did a glitch run with "charcolt" as a main Pokemon. I remember it learned this one tm move really early that was like explosion, but displayed ember and had like 30% accuracy. It would be awesome if someone could create a rom hack of the original games with the mist stone, bills garden and all those old rumors being actual things.

Anyone remember the rumor in Pokemon Red/Blue about moving the truck because Mew was under there? xD
