Just edited the poll for a bit more options.

I'll choose DVD as it's more portable and compatible

Still commonly used.

I'll have to go with flash drives. They're easy to carry around and you can write to them numerous times. I've started installing my linux distros via USB rather than DVD, it's a lot less wasteful.

Installing distros on an USB seems no problem for me.

I'm still wondering if Blu-Ray still gets support, or is it still trying to recover from the Avatar Blu-Ray disaster?

An NVME M.2 SSD inside an enclosure made for it will be upgradeable, faster than normal USB thumb drives, relatively durable, and a portable option. Like the usual portable SSD's but more control over what's inside of it.

Different media for different purposes.

File storage in a server - hard drives.
File storage where you need high performance - SSDs.
Backups that would be done frequently and kept online - hard drives.
Backups that would be done infrequently and kept offline - tapes.

Yeah, depends on the media. I like to have a collection of disks. Preferably Bluray but DVD is fine. I even like CDs of my favorite music though I never actually play them. But I'd like to have a hard drive of video that I could just put on when I want. Books in physical format. Digital can be useful but I much much prefer physical.

Speaking of non-digital formats, I prefer reel to reel tape and cassettes for music and I use them a lot. I also like Laserdiscs for movies and VHS to record some things.

My own memory is my most important storage place.

They make archival bluray, supposed to last 100 years. Ideally, I would make copies of my dvds and periodically test them and replace them. Or back them up on a raid system. But that's so expensive for all that I have.

I’d choose a cartridge of some sort. Anything disc-based is subject to scratches and damage that can destroy all your info. Most of them are ridiculously delicate and I wouldn’t trust them to store anything important without many, many backups. Cartridges or flashsticks at least have some exterior protection of a plastic shell, and most of the time they’re reliable. The older the cartridge format, the more reliable they were. Look at videogames for example; discs are prone to ruin with the slightest fingerprint on them, but my old cartridge-based systems are still working today without a hitch. Give me old tech; it always works better.

It depends.

For long-time storage Blu-Ray is the best. It can be stored hundreds of years without information being lost. and it's surface is more durable than CD or DVD has. I would chose it to store family photos and videos for decades.

For daily use handy USB flash drives are good enough. When usability and portability are more important than safety. I chose it for quick file exchange between devices.
