Do you consider ponies as a way of escaping reality?

Kind of. Most TV shows, movies, games etc count as some kind of escapism. For me it's about feeling the warmth between creatures that genuinely consider themselves friends.

I'm not a medical expert, psychologist, psychiatrist, teacher or love doctor. Take my words with a pinch of salt, yeah?

I am an experienced cook, musician and care worker though, so that's something.

Definitely, without them I would have ended it along time ago.

It's good you have not ''ended it'' but don't see why it was necessary to put that here.

For me no, if anyone uses any TV show as a long term escape it's alot more unhealthy than dealing with the actual issues, of course there are times when I use it for temporary comfort, but never does it cross the line in it being nothing more than a tv show

I meant as in, given up on everything, sorry if it came out another way.

I agree with you on that point. Escapism does not solve any problems. Anyone who is trying to escape reality through MLP probably needs help in reality.

The point of escapism is not to solve problems, but to make them easier to bear. And I got no problem with that. I mean, it's "escapism", not "solvism". Not everything can be solved right away, and if you can forget your problems for a time, more power to you.

Sure, but then most entertainment media is some form of escapism. Ponies are no different than reading a good book or listening to good music. If it takes your mind off the real world and it's problems, even for a minute, it can be used as a mental escape.

I think I do, a little bit. I like getting absorbed into something entertaining and ponies are cheerful, colorful, cute, and that helps keep me in a good mood. Somewhere I read a meme one time about how the best lessons I've learned came from people who don't even exist and on it like was Link from zelda, I dobt know, Yoda maybe, but when I think about that now, I know ponies could definitely be on there.

If this show has had such a positive influence on you, I'm really glad. Thank you for sharing something this personal, it takes a kind of bravery that not everyone possesses. Don't apologize for your feelings, they're perfectly valid.

Escapism leads to entertainment being used as a drug in many cases. People need to confront their problems, think about them, and talk about them with others.

Well it is a form of entertainment and entertainment does acknowledge or cause to be acknowledged that sometimes you need abreak form reality, in fact people who don't enjoy fiction are generally stuck-up workaholics who become alcoholics later in life or something, or the cliche idea of a stockbroker jumping off a building because his life was stressful and he only cared about money and got no feeling of life meaning from simply producing income.

So yeah it can be sort of an escapism but moderation right? Like sure if you become as extreme as fox news thinks of us lol then sure you might need to tone down the pony a bit, otherwise its perfectly fine to enjoy it and its sort of why fandoms exist in a way, because many experience enjoyment so much so they want to socialize about it.

Technically, I guess all media creates "escapism" but I fear it being used in place of human interaction and love. I have known too many people who used something to escape real life and now they have very little of a life left. This seems to be a sensitive topic for a lot of people.

Not really. Maybe at first, but as the years have gone on, I actually find myself to be more involved in other things, but even those don't help me escape reality.

Oh, definitely. There were a few years of my life where this show and the fan-creations were just about the only thing making me happy at all. Hated school, had a really rough time making friends, not very close with family, but this show still managed to make me smile, sometimes it's still the only thing that can.

Outside of a few good friends I've finally managed to make, I can't say reality has ever been a pleasant experience for me.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

Most things that are supposed to be entertainment can be considered ways of 'escaping reality'. Ponies would definitely be one of those. Some pieces of entertainment can also remind us of reality but with the fantastical world that MLP takes place in, I find it to be a good escape. :3 It is also a good moral reminder too which is set in reality, so best of both!

I dunno, does having pony related thoughts to comfort myself when I'm down counts? I'm aware it's a TV show and it doesn't exist, but I can't help but make me think of the good remaining i this world
