Theory MLP Theory: Where was Equestria Founded? (Hearth's Warming Eve)

In Hearth's Warming Eve, the leaders of the three pony tribes travel to a distant land, each settling a different area as their new home. But where exactly was this place? Are the original settlements still around today? Watch the video to find out!

Hmm.. That's quite interesting and has some compelling evidence towards the theory's statement..

 

There are however a few flaws I can point out.. :/

 

Like how the mountain the unicorns were living on was not steep like the Canterlot's mountain.. It'd make more sense for it to be located in the "Unicorn mountains" range.. as they could be named so for the race that lived there..

 

As for the cloud city the pegusi lived in.. I could've been abandoned, and as the clouds were not maintained it could have come crashing down.. and thus doesn't exist on the map (unless it's one of those ruins) ...

 

For the earth ponies in the ponyville area, it's far too close to the 3 race's perceived meeting point.. the meeting place would still be frozen if not a little snowed over otherwise..

 

The gems mined in Canterlot? Them being mined there doesn't mean the unicorns lived there.. They could have just had a mine site there..

 

Wouldn't it make sense if their homelands were all located in say.. the equatorial (in this case, the center horizontal) line of the shown map? As Equestria has a frozen north and a warmer south (desert, badlands, etc.) So moving south makes a lot of sense.. after all if they met in the center point of their homelands to claim the new land, we'd see frozen areas in the horizon, but we dont.. we see lush areas.. that's because the camera is facing south

 

Furthermore.. the pegusi were possibly flying South-East.. the Unicorns traveled South-West.. and the Earth ponies travelled south.. They of course got there slower because Puddinghead had the map for a large portion of the trip (But then again the pegusi could have been slowed by the fierce winds, and Princess Platinum being so lazy in moving places..) The fact that the Unicorns came from the East can mean 1 of 2 things.. 1: Them living in the Unicorn mountains were false..? or 2: It was a director issue with the play and they were meant to come from the West..? Either way.. it's pretty convincing..

 

Remember that most of these facts for the theory were based on a play.. portaying the story of the foundation of Equestria, not all the information can be correct..

 

Though the original theory is still quite compelling and could still hold true.. who knows? Maybe it is

Well, it was a play. It's possible that not everything was portrayed completely accurate.

 

As far as Ponyville goes, it seems unlikely given the distance. The plantations next to Canterlot would seem like a better candidate. Also, she said "Ponyville", not whatever the old town would've been called, and I would think that  the ponies would continue to live in that place after the disaster was over. We know Discord ruled in about the same area and that the place was healed afterward.

Now, with the Castle of the Two Sisters being in the Everfree, that's not really all that close to Canterlot or Cloudsdale. You said that Ponyville's position would allow for quick access, but it doesn't work well for the other tribes. Plus, they set up the castle where it was because it was close to the Tree of Harmony, and it was before they met the tribal leaders.

Fluttershy's aside isn't necessarily an accurate direction. Keep in mind it was a play. It also might not have been about Fluttershy, but rather a comical line meant to be in the character of Private Pansy.

Good points.  Of course, as a cloud city Cloudsdale can move around so it could be located anywhere, but it certainly seems likely they might have been the 1st settlement.  As to Ponyville, I'd say no, probably deeper into the Everfree.  It seems to me that if Ponyville was built on the ruins of an older city, they would turn up ruins & artifacts.  That sort of thing happens in Europe all the time.  IMO, it was near the Castle of the 2 Sisters.  In the flashbacks in Princess Twilight, it looks like the city was damaged.  Maybe it was abandoned & the capitol moved to Canterlot after the fight .

 

As to the original settlement, well the only ice covered area in EQ is in the Crystal Empire.  Perhaps the situation wasn't quite as grim as the play makes out & the original settlement pulled through.  It would explain

1) Whyfore is there a highly advanced city in the middle of the polar ice cap?

2) Why doesn't anyone know that this is the original homeland?  Because it vanished for 1000 years after being under a forget spell from Sombra
