gaming Your favorite handheld game system of all time

Portable gaming is something I always loved when I was younger and still love to this day. Portable gaming was such a cool concept before but now is over-saturated by mobile devices. It seems like dedicated portable gaming just is not as huge as it was before. We definitely won't be seeing a Gameboy era anytime soon. The 3DS is at least really popular.

There have been many handheld gaming systems in the years and I want to know, what is YOUR favorite of all time? This could be for the games, the nostalgia, any reason whatsoever. :3

I think my favorite was the PSP. That system was so far ahead of its time with so many awesome features and functions, with a really good UI too. The redesigns were also great. The lack of games later on and the overly expensive memory sticks definitely were a pain, but I still found it to be a wonderful system.

Large image yes, but that brings back sooo many memories.

Playstation Vita. It's still the most powerful handheld and was comparable to an expensive smartphone when it came out. It was far ahead of it's time with it's high definition screen resolution, specification, party chat and messaging with your friends, trophies, dual anolog sticks, dual cameras, rear touch pad, gyro sensor, applications like YouTube, Skype, Facebook, Twitter and other social features.

While I loved the PSP, 3DS, DS and all of the Gameboys, to me the Vita is my favorite handheld console of all time for all the features above and it has got some great games too. The Vita is lacking in games made from Sony themselves right now but there's still plenty of games coming from Japan and other third party developers.  :)

I'd personally say the 2DS. It's a comfortable model and I like the idea of them dropping the price by getting rid of an IMO useless feature, plus it can play all the 3DS games and features, and IMO there's a lot of great games on the 3DS, such as SSB4 and Sonic Lost World, not to mention DS games as well. It's probably my third favorite gaming platform as a whole aside from the SNES and PC.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Gameboy Advance SP, but then I realize that my most found memory of that system was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles which is a Gamecube game. Not that it was the only game I played on the system, mind you. Crystal Chronicles is just one of my fonder gaming memories.

If I take the Crystal Chronicles out of the Gameboy Advance memories, then I would have to say that my favorite handheld is the psp. It had a lot of good features, and plenty of memorable games I played on it.

Well, it appears to be a popular choice but I guess I'll say it too, Gameboy Advance SP. Had a good selection of games, reverse compatibility to the max and the second most time I've ever put into a single game, being Pokemon Emerald.

The 3DS is pretty nifty too but the SP is where I did most of my handheld gaming.

I'd say it's either the PSP or the 3DS, both of them have some of my all time favorite games on them. The Vita follows close behind, and ranks up their with the PSP, Dreamcast and Wii U as one of the most underappreciated platforms ever

The GBA SP is my favourite all time hand held.

There are a whole bunch of reasons why I love this device as a console, but I'll enumerate them to save time:

  • The original clamshell design at its most compact form
  • The backlight / frontlight, especially as a user of the original gameboys who had so many stupid light attachments
  • True reverse compatibility with games from the original '89 gameboy and a fairly strong library on its own merits.
  • A rechargable battery integrated in the system. Energizer lost a lot of Double A battery sales that day.

In general, it was just a really good system that solved a lot of problems the gameboy line struggled with. I used to have the platinum model, but I bought myself a refurbished backlit model to play my old favourites on. The screen is just so much sharper with both GBA and GB games.

I've owned a PSP and a DS as well as previous Nintendo mobile systems, but in all honestly I will consider the Surface to be the superior system for mobile gaming that I have owned. Hell just last trip(8 hours) I was binging Company of Heroes the entire way with the Blitzkrieg mod, nothing else compared even if you were to include nostalgia of other systems.

I spent more time with my Nintendo DS (it came with Mariokart DS, so it was red  B) ) than I did with my 2nd favorite, the PS Vita. I also liked how it was backwards compatible with GBA games, so I could have 2 games with me if I went out and took it with me.

Pretty sure you had to be pretty baller to have one of these though.

I'd say my favourite would have to be the DS because it has so many games that I love such as PMD Explorers of Sky, Pokemon HGSS and Mariokart DS.  The 3DS and GBA come in a close second and third.

I like the PSP and PS Vita as well but for me they just don't have the games to compete with the nintendo handhelds.

I would also like to give a special mention to my first handheld system, the Sega Gamegear, I have fond memories of playing Sonic Chaos and Columns on it :)

The Vita's working it's way into my heart. I have six games for it, five of which I've absolutely loved. There's also a looooooooooot of games coming out for it this year that look really good.

I heard the system was a flop but with so many great games on it already and more coming I expect that to change.

The 3DS is easily my favorite handheld... And easily the best, IMO. Not console ever had me hyped for so many titles the day it was announced. While a couple of them turned out to be duds (OOT3D and Paper Mario Sticker Star) the majority of them turned out to be fine games.

Before the 3DS, you could hardly get me to enjoy much outside of Pokemon, because everything else just felt like it was lagging behind in the SNES era. The 3DS still has titles like this *coughALinkBetweenWorldscough*, but it has a lot that feel like more full-fledged games as well.

I would have to say the GBA SP would be my favorite handheld gaming system, despite the fact that I don't personally enjoy Nintendo first party games the idea of having such a massive backlog of games really won me over.

Second favorite would be the PS Vita, you have to love all those awesome and quirky JRPGs.

Game Boy Advance SP. It has some great game titles :) You can also see the God damn screen as opposed to the original Game Boy Advance. If you're into retro games I'd recommend the Revo K101 Plus:

I have one and it's awesome :) The screen is better than the SP and you can put .gba roms (and it supports other roms) onto the cartridge that comes with it. I like Pokemon hacks and playing them on something like that is great.

GameCube  I have so many great memories playing with my brother on this game console. Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash, Star Fox Assault etc -- 'twas wonderful indeed ^_^ Now that my brother hacked his Wii, we're able to play all our childhood games again. The nostalgic feels

The Nintendo DS is my absolute my favorite handheld. I have more games for it than any other system and most of those games are some of my favorites. Granted, each subsequent iteration of it is basically the exact same thing just with one or two extra superfluous features, but that doesn't sour my love for it.

Not to be "that guy", but last I checked the Gamecube is not a Handheld.

Definitely the 3DS. I haven't really owned many others aside from Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance and a normal DS. My brother has a PSP which I've played on a few times but 3DS is definitely my favourite.

I didnt have that many Handhelds, specially not new ones, but one Handheld i always admired and wanted to have was the Atari Lynx.

From what i have read, it was ahead of its time and it also looks pretty cool.

And its from Atari, which is a plus point for me.  :squee:

I just wish it wouldnt be so rare this days or i would have bought me one years back.

From the ones i actually have, i would say Playstation Portable.

I loved to play Rachet and Clank - Size Matters on that.

...

That was also the only game i had.
