Should there be experimental episodes?

While the show definitely follows it own style and way with how it looks and feels, I've always wondered if there should be episodes that completely deviates from its own. Nothing permanent, just something completely different like a completely different art style or change in genre for just one episode. I'd like to see the show do different things.

sounds interesting. but I know the show will give a reason for a style change, like dash is telling an Epic story.  I can imagine a rough-outlined gritty anime style     out of no where.

Changing artstyles for an episode can be neat if they can find a way to make it work(i.e, the mane 6 gives their own interpretations of an event with artstyles that suit the character, like Pinkie's looks like wacky and zany kid's cartoon, Rainbow Dash looks like a shonen anime, Fluttershy/Rarity looks like Disney movies, Twilight's looks like Sailor Moon, AJ looks like Batman lol)

 

That said I'd also be worried if they ended up with an episode with significantly lower quality animation like Episode 4 of Gurren Lagann

Well the show has had over 100 episodes and you gotta do something for the show to stay interesting.

So I am for experimental episodes.

For a change of pace and artstyle I usually just read the comics. They're very different in tone from the show as well.

A change of art style is something that could be really interesting with proper justification, other shows have done that to great effect before but it depends. It is something that would be neat to see, but we most likely won't see it. Good thing that the show's current style is lovely. 

 

A change of genre...Meh. That one I don't see much of a point to, myself.

I'm not sure if I'd want a different art style for the whole episode but I do like how they throw random bits of things in different episodes (especially the ones involving Pinkie) and whatever that thing was in the episode with Discord and the Gala. Sooo that being said, maybe they could make it really good/entertaining.

What do you mean by different genre? (Do you have any specific ideas?) That could be interesting, depending.

I guess Discord or Pinkie Pie could do something like that but it will be mostly a parody episode not taken that seriously.

I feel like this would be a good idea. Seeing as how the show has run for 5 seasons a change might be in order.

It would have been interesting if in an episode such as Power Ponies, after getting sucked into the comic book, everything completely changed. However, all though it is an interesting idea, it would be hard to justify doing.

They should totally get stuck in an Abstract Thought-ish art style for an episode.

yeah as long as they're good.  Why should the fans be the only ones to do them?  Hasbro owns the property after all.  At the very least they should do stand-alone episodes of the same style.
