cider float 2,539 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 Each generation of MLP seems to have been different but from 1-3 they kept the pacing and format less than appealing and all very dumbed down. G4 hit it hard and was written and animated in a different way Would G5 be able to pull it off and make something completely different or basically be just another season of MLP G4? Mesme Rize 15,692 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 You always sometimes have this one show/movie that seperates itself from everybody else, because it has it's special something. With Friendship is magic, the stars where just at the right place, at the right time, because not the show was responsible for the success, but also the voices that came from the internet with it. If G5 will be better or worse has to be seen (heck we don't even know when it's coming out. Let G4 end first. ) But the impact this show had, will never be duplicated, because the feeling is unique. 3 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. Wind Chaser 4,768 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 Depends on what exactly you characterize as "revolutionary". Almost every season has episodes that are different as well as episodes that hearken back to the earlier seasons in terms of simplicity. Overall, I expect that Season 6 will have some changes in theme, but episodes will continue to resemble older ones in terms of structure.
Riganthor 484 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 Well only time will tell how good it will be but I do think they will try to replicate the succes of G4. But why are we talking about this G4 hasn't ended yet and for now won't.
Shanks 10,817 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 It could go either way, if Hasbro is smart they will have DHX build on the success of FIM by taking what was good about it and applying it to G5 while ironing out a few flaws. That dosen't mean that G5 has to have anything to do with FIM as it could be completely different and still fit those parameters, Lauren Faust for example originally intended G4 to have more adventure themed stories which could be a possibility in G5. Whether that will be the case of not will depend on many factors one of which will be how G4 ends and how many of the newfound brony audience are left as it is also possible that they could take an approach closer to G3 or another possibility is that G5 might not even have a cartoon series much like how G2 didn't (G1 had 2 cartoon series with one of them being falsely attributed to G2). Merch sales will also drive it as even though FIM is good the fact is it like the previous generation cartoons exists primarily to sell the merch and G1's slumping sales numbers along with G2 not doing as well as expected it was decided that a cartoon series wasn't worth the money. The G3 series was likely a huge desperation move and one that didn't exactly work making G4's success even more incredible and showing that success can somtimes come after failure. 2 Rarity Get's Cockroaches

cmarston1 5,964 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 They shouldn't be trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It would be nice if the people working on Gen 5 if it even had a cartoon, looked for inspiration for why people liked FIM, but I don't want to see a shallow attempt to capture the popularity G4 got by making a carbon copy of it. I would rather see a brand new universe/type of see being created, that actually tries to be a quality program. Plus I highly doubt it would get anywhere near as popular as the current show anyways. Wow! Nicely said! You speak out of my soul... But yeah, it really depends on what it will be. If it's gonna be in the style of G4 but other characters, that would be easy and if done correctly also be something many fans would enjoy. At least for a movie. I'm not so sure about an entire show, but maybe. But. They could also go risky and develop a new style, which would have to look even better than this one. If they get that done, they could make a new story with new characters. I would prefer both ways. I don't want a new style since it could be bad, still, i would also be interested, since it could be good. But now to get to the point. No. I don't think it will be so revolutionary as G4 was. Well, i don't see how it could be. Though, if the writers come up with something really good, it could be. I'd say it's not very likely. Possible, though, not very probable. 1 "You are right Starlight, you are more talented in magic than me. But talent doesn't mean, that you are privileged to have more power. It's the heart! Trinitron Keys 89 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 It could be good, but it won't be the same. Real-world events often influence the writing and themes of new shows that come out, and different events in the future will mean different themes and overtones. I loved the art style with this one, I just hope they don't go all Gabe-and-Tycho on us and make everybody look like they have Tumblr Nose or something.
Snow Frostflame 3,568 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 My money is on G5 being an EQG TV show (That would be awesome, but I'm only kidding). I think the only way G5 could succede as well as G4 is if they start fresh, but throw a few G4 references here and there.
Plonkett 345 February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 If G5 would take place in the same setting as G4, it should be set several hundred years after FiM. Otherwise, it should have its own separate universe, having more talented writers and actors/actresses.
cider float 2,539 February 7, 2016 Author Share February 7, 2016 (edited) All I know is G5 will be hard pressed trying to succeed it's predecessor because G4 has made such an impression that G5 will be lukewarm in comparison. FizzyGreen 909 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 I actually think, that G5 would need completely new writers with new ideas. 2 "You are right Starlight, you are more talented in magic than me. Starflite527 25 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 I feel like G4 was so revolutionary because it was something new and different after a string of not-as-good generations. G5 will probably be pretty good because of how much he creators have learned from G4, but I don't think the fanbase will respond as well, just because we're used to G4 and don't want it to change. So it'll probably be good, but it probably won't cause quite as much of a revolution. 1 Signature by Kyoshi
EverEverOn 346 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 I can see Hasbro trying to duplicate G4 in the future. Maybe they could bring back some of the characters into the new show? That's worked with past generations, at least. But having the same animation style wouldn't make it a whole new generation. G3 got those chili ponies, but it was still G3. We'd need a whole new look for the ponies to call it seems new generation. I can easily see the voice actors sticking around, though. Rarity's voice actress has been in previous generations from what I know, so why can't the rest do the same when FiM ends? To be honest, when the current show ends, I don't see Hasbro making a whole new generation. We'll most likely see some sort of spin-off series, or at least some shorts, and maybe a direct to DVD movie or two like G3. The current generation is too successful for them to just end like that, and they'd definitely try to keep it going in new ways rather than cut it off and start over.
Leave a Whisper 703 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 (edited) I dunno. Cartoons these days aren't very good in general. But Hasbro properties always reinvent themselves for better and sometimes worse. We'll see when we see. NeonCobalt 256 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 (edited) It honestly depends on how much effort Hasbro wants to put into it. If they want to replicate the success of this show, and perhaps keep some of the adult fan base, then they will probably try, and maybe succeed. honk friend 1,987 February 7, 2016 Share February 7, 2016 G4 was basically a hard reboot that gave a big fuck you to the last 3 generations, It's definitely gonna be hard as fuck to give a big fuck you to G4 so either it'll succeed as a way to market toys to little kids or it won't happen at all. cider float 2,539 February 8, 2016 Author Share February 8, 2016 I feel Hasbro will do better to revolutionize their other franchises than MLP, I feel like G4 would be too hard to succeed.
Saroth 102 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 Don't fix what isn't broken, in my opinion. But it would be refreshing to see a change to the style if G5 does happen. 1 Signature and profile picture made by yours truly.
Aurora Storm 83 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 Nah, lightning doesn't strike the same place twice. Agreed. I mean, it actually does actually strike more than once in the same place in real life, but the odds of the show having this level of success next generation seems improbable even if many of the bronies/adult fans continue to watch.
KatonRyu 1,036 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 It's entirely possible. Before G4 I didn't think MLP could ever be good, but it is, so G5 might well be yet another step up. To be honest, though, I don't think it will be. I think it might be about the same or slightly less than G4, but no matter what I'll give it a fair chance just like I did with FiM. Monmonstar 7 February 9, 2016 Share February 9, 2016 I think G5 should be similar to G4 but less "Friendship" oriented, It should have more mature subjects and I don't mean like torture, violence and sex but more sort of aimed at older generations. Just my opinion though
