spoiler Fears Confirmed- New Pony Problem

BalanceBrony

Recommended Posts

We've already proven that Hasbro doesn't really listen to Bronies. Bronies have made demands before and they almost never get filled. The only thing Hasbro does for bronies is squeeze a reference or two into the show. That's about it.

For the most part, I'm glad of that.  If anything, whenever I feel as though the show might be attempting to cater to Bronies (however vaguely), I start to feel iffy about it.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. Very simple. There is no reason to be "legitimately" concerned because what's there to be concerned over? It's a cartoon. If you don't like it, you simply stop watching.

How am I twisting your words again? You're clearly saying here that anyone who has concerns about the show should just give up and stop watching. Period. People have concerns because they fear that the show could potentially drop in quality and they could fall out of love with it when they don't want to. But you're basically saying that those should clearly just give up now.

If you really feel that way, I guess that means that you believe that the show is perfect and those who don't believe as such should just go away.

The people who freak out over this stuff are the same ones who freak out over Alicorn Twilight... 3 years ago. And are still here, still watching episodes, and many of them still actively writing bad reviews for said episodes.

There is no way in hell you can prove this. And does this mean that you consider any negative review of any episode to be from a Twilicorn hater who is still just lashing out against the show?

Also, bronies know that Hasbro doesn't care about them when it comes to which direction to take the show in, but it doesn't mean they can't call out bad writing when they see it.

I do not believe the show is perfect. However if a change is bad enough to make you not love the show anymore, then simply stop watching because complaining about it changes nothing and honestly not loving the show is not the worst thing that can happen to you. I am saying just move on with your life then and enjoy another show. These minor problems to me are not enough to stop liking the show even if it has flaws. If someone feels this will make them stop loving the show, then they should just watch another show.

I don't see what is so difficult to understand about this?

No? Putting words into my mouth again.

I have personally observed many people who hated Alicorn Twilight continue to give negative review after negative review of the show to this day, so thus when I say I know they are the same people I mean legitimately I am talking about the same people. There are people who insist the show has not been good since season 2 and those people are still here, and I know you have observed them too. We've all seen people who insist the show has gone downhill since Alicorn Twilight and yet many of those people still continue to watch.

Also, bronies know that Hasbro doesn't care about them when it comes to which direction to take the show in, but it doesn't mean they can't call out bad writing when they see it.

Okay, but don't expect it to change anything. It comes to a point where calling out bad writing or perceived bad writing becomes pointless when the people making it are not listening. Then all you're doing is basically pissing people off who are okay with the writing. I personally am not phased by this episode. I think it looks cute and my expectations of a kids show are set to realistic.

Considering most of us here aren't even going to pay to see the show and watch it on the internet for free, I don't see what there is to complain about. Maybe those who have thrown money away on the episode, but it's not like all of us are paying customers who have a right to a refund for a low quality product. I mean the ratings of the show on the network are insanely down so we know people are not watching it on TV as much, that means a lot of people are either watching it on the Internet or Netflix. With Netflix you pay no additional fee and unless you are paying exclusively to watch MLP you are not out anything via your Netflix subscription, so again: what is there to complain about?

A good chunk of the fandom watches the episodes illegally anyways.

I don't know what's so difficult for you to understand that just because people have concerns, doesn't mean that they have already made the decision to hate changes before they happen. Hell, a lot of what we're seeing in this thread is people saying that they'll just have to wait and see. I barely see anyone in this thread acting like this is the end of the world, but you apparently just have an issue with people showing any kind of concern at all.

Bottom line, people have every right to voice their concerns here and it's exactly the kind of thing these forums are for. If you want nothing but positivity and optimism, then I suggest you just ignore them.

There's still no way that this represents everyone.

*sigh*

So basically, positive opinions are the right opinions, while negative opinions are just an inconvenience?

In that case, I think everyone in this topic with a non-positive opinion about the premiere owes you a formal apology for being such a bother to you. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take their negativity elsewhere, because in this forum, we should clearly only be talking about the good.

@@Key Sharkz,

I was in favor of Twilicorn and think she deserved it. I also think Sunset should be an Alicorn after Friendship Games.

Anyways, my point in mentioning this is because not every person with critiques is automatically somebody who was a Twilicorn hater. Generalizations are inherently flawed in most cases. I like the show, and I'm in the boat that thinks season 4 and 5 were some of the high points of the series and the show has gone up. Which is why I'm even more concerned. As somebody who thinks the show had just hit a high point, it troubles me that it's going to potentially tank with an idiotic baby.

That and Starlight Glimmer's horrid redemption arc- which is now made even worse, since it would appear that the little 30 second montage is now all we'll get in terms of Starlight making up with the people she harmed. I was going to forgive that incredibly rushed sequence if they retconned it, and did a proper redemption. But nope. Since she's jumping straight into the Mane 7 (blegh) it's incredibly doubtful we're going to jump back and have a proper  forgiveness arc. So now that's two bad signs.

I am also in the boat that, despite my misgivings, I will watch and see what happens. If the episodes following the opener are as good as what S5 gave us, then I will indeed keep watching. In making this thread, I was just bringing up the fact that such a ghastly storytelling decision as OP baby is concerning.

1. The sun and moon featured in Equestria is significantly smaller and closer to the planet than our own.

sig-4409481.whoa-690x259.png

A group of unicorns used to manage the sun and moon, now they are managed by the princesses.

Nope as while I need to search for that letter, but word of god from Amy Keating Rogers says that the sun and moon are the same as ours in size. Considering the comics canon gets thrown out if the show says otherwise, I'm willing to believe a major show writer like Amy's word over what the comics show.

2. Celestia was bested by a Powered Chrysalis, but Cadence and Shining together took down not only the queen, but all of her army all at once.

The Tree/Crystal heart are the ones holding the lionshare of the power in the series. Without the tree, the two sisters would of failed at protecting their land. Without the Heart, Sombra would of won, and the empire would be shrouded in a Blizzard still. But that's for another topic.

True, but Cadance needed help doing it unlike Celestia who owned Chrysalis and her army on her own, it still does not shake that Cadance lost to her when they fought 1v1 where the other Alicorns have shown that they can beat her in such terms.

I agree with your point on the crystal heart and tree of harmony on the other hand.

I am not even going to continue trying to explain because you are purposefully misrepresenting my points and putting words into my mouth.

Instead I shall say you're misunderstanding me and walk away because this is getting pointless because you've already decided what you think I mean to the point where explaining what I actually mean will be a waste of my time.

So agree to disagree and let's be done with it.

I really don't think I am misunderstanding you.

You literally just said that people with negative opinions about the writing only serve to piss others off, which clearly indicates that you yourself are getting pissed off with the complaints in this thread and that's why you've lashed out.

People actually do have the right to express their negativity just as much as they have the right to express their positivity. And they certainly don't deserve to be told to quit the show and move on just because they have a negative attitude towards something. If you feel the need to argue opinions, you can do so, but beyond that, people have the right to express what they want to express.

Also, do you really think that just because the show is free to watch, people shouldn't have any issues with the directions it takes? That's pretty damn close to saying that you're only allowed to dislike something if you're actually paying for it. I mean, come on... >_>

Also its the Crystal Heart that keeps out the storm, in just the same way the Tree of Harmony supplied the elements for the princesses to defeat their enemies 1000 years ago. Those two things are more powerful than the princesses by a wide margin.

The Crystal Heart was locked away for most of the S3 premiere, so it wasn't keeping the storm out then - it was Cadence doing that. So why isn't Cadence doing the same thing in the S6 preview if the Crystal Heart has been disabled? It's an indication there's more to the blizzard this time than just the missing shield.

the comics reveal that the Crystal heart is sentient and is at odds with the crystal that granted Sombra his powers. My guess based on what I know is that it was conserving its power, keeping the ponies safe in stasis from where it was until it could make its move and get back to its rightful place. With Sombra returning it had to make its move then, using its power to temporarily resurface the Crystal empire and signal Celestia or anypony who could to come to its aid. Once the events transpired as they did, The Crystal through Cadence made no qualms about obliterating Sombra from the equation. Its a lot more cutthroat than the Tree of Harmony is.

How do we even know that the blizzard have anything to do with Flurry Heart at all?

From what the previews seem to lay out, it seems like Flurry Heart accidentally broke the barrier that held the blizzard back.

I'm pretty confident they aren't, its more likely that Starlight's friend Sunburst tampered with the Crystal heart and let the Blizzard that was already happening come in. Remember that that area always has a blizzard, The Crystal heart just keeps it at bay.

I don't know if this is off topic, and please Mr. Mod, deal with this post if it is.

This is why I hate the books and the comics. This is my opinion and I know it's unpopular.

1. Being able to move a star and moon is a very impressive feat of telekinitic strength. Celestia, Luna, and Discord are the only individuals shown to have moved such bodies without recieving some significant power up like Twilight at the season 4 finale. Such feats are considered extremely difficult to pull off in Equestria as outside of those three, it took the unicorn tribes strongest mages to pull it off, and they were losing their strength for it. If Celestia and Luna hadn't shown up, it would've likely resulted in some catastrophe once the unicorn tribe lost the means to move those solar bodies.

There was no mention of the unicorns suffering because of that in the show (obviously because the episode came before the comics). And interestingly enough, Discord didn't suffer for messing with the sun and the moon (also because of that). This whole gimmick was AKR being lazy, trying to fix the absence of the two in the episode that deals with the past. For how long have they been moving the two celestial bodies before the episode? This is bad retconning. It's covering a hole in a white wall with black tape. Not to mention that in "The Summer of Royal Waves" (the book I bought because I wanted to see Celestia doing something)

Celestia thanks the sun for letting her move it. So I guess that the sun was okay with Discord messing with it and also with Twilight. And the moon didn't care that Celestia was moving it for 1000 years.

2. It was implied that Cadance lost to an unpowered Queen Chrysalis considering where she was situated at and can presume it happened before she started siphoning up Shining armor's love for Cadance. It took a powered up Chrysalis to beat Celestia, which she was even shocked she won. Without such a power up, the comics show Celestia stomps Chrysalis as she caused those holes you see in her legs when she originally didn't had them (though why her subjects do is a case of writer failing to note that) and Celestia actually imprisoned her and her changeling army inside a volcano. From the recent seige of the crystal empire arc, both Luna and Twilight (heck, Twilight defeated Chrysalis as a unicorn in the comics) were shown to be able to beat an unpowerd Chrysalis on their own so even more evidence to suggest Cadance is the weakest of the bunch.

I have no problem with the idea that Celestia lost to Chrysalis because Chrysalis because she was high on love (I still think it's lazy writing, but okay). The problem are the comics. The entire issue about the changelings' origin

is a changeling posing as Chrysalis, telling Twilight their story. I think it wastes a page and a half with Rarity being a bitch. Soon after, there is a scene with the changelings attacking some moron ripped from ancient greek visuals, and then it shows Celestia coming with her guards, looking like she's pissed. Holy crap, I'm going to see Celestia actually fight Chrysalis AND win. F-yeah! Comeuppance! No. I got a panel showing a stained-glass mosaic-like picture of Celestia somehow magiking the holes in Chrysalis body. Screw you IDW, this doesn't even make any sense. Was she doing it intentionaly? You know what this is? This isn't character development. This isn't a plot-point. This is an explanation to the stupid gimmick of the holes on the changelings.

But shame on me for expecting an actual answer about Celestia's size or why her mane looks like that in Celestia's book. Of course, the comic about the siege on the Crystal Empire

has no problem showing Sombra turning Luna and Celestia to stone while Chrysalis is laughing like an idiot.

Goddamn, I hate these comics. And then, in the cartoon, Celestia and Luna are said to have put Tirek in Tartarus. Do I get to see them fight him? No. Of course not. I get to see the mighty Celestia suffer an aneurysm to concoct the dumbest plan in the history of plans and then look like a lost puppy while Tirek puts her in Tartarus. Justice is for the villains in this braindead universe of MLP. Fuck the fans of the good guys! Villains are cool! Put those stakes in the stratosphere because high stakes make for more mature storytelling.

Ask anyone why Moon Dancer is a better Starlight Glimmer, Mr. Thiessen.

To be fair, even the weakest Alicorn Princess is nothing to scoff at as she did held a city wide shield spell for an undetermined amount of time without rest against a powerful malevolent being in Sombra and does posses some powerful transmutation hacks as she turned water into crystals in Princess Spike and we can presume she at least has all the abilities Pre Alicorn Twilight and Trixie with Alicorn amulet possessed and shown via power scaling.

Yet every time I see Celestia actually fighting, she's getting roflstomped by <insert character here> while Cadance and Twilight can fight the Tatzlwurm, can carry Discord to the edge of Equestria, can actually DO magic. Hell, Nightmare Moon banished Celestia to the moon, without the Elements, somehow. Yet Celestia is hailed as powerful by her enemies, by her friends.

One would hope that after appeasing to the advertisement gods of the marketing department, the fanbase for every fucking single villain and foil in this fandom, Luna's fans, Discord's fans, Cadance's fans, Derpy's fans and more... Can I please see my favorite character, the one that is supposed to be the responsible one, that kept this mess afloat and taught Twilight and supposedly Cadance and Sunset Shimmer what they know; the maternal figure that used to be important to the show doing something right, without looking like a giant waste of animation. Perhaps even know something about her other than that she fucking likes cake?! Something that makes sense for once, without a whole afternoon of mental gymnastics??

Now that is a butthurt rant if you guys ever saw one. So people should forgive me for fearing that Celestia and Luna would be overpowered by Cadance's newborn, the fucking weather or any manifestation of the writer's stupidity. I happen to like this cartoon, and bad writing is bad writing, no matter how old the audience. It comes down to the production staff giving a damn.

Ya know Fluffybuuns kinda reminds me of that baby from The Incredibles, ending up being OP. But gee.

I wish for that too as Celestia badly needs some good time in the sun as you're right, it's been going far too long that Celestia gets her butt kicked on the show while we know next to nothing about her without using other characters to paste the puzzles in. I sincerely hope that they finally give us a good Celestia episode that the show badly needs to do.

God, I need an aspirin.

A rant worthy of its own discussion if I do say so myself. Not that its unwelcome here, but you do seem to have some pretty interesting points.

Yes, the books/comics suffer from a severe lack of quality control, its certainly one of the weaker aspects to the franchise to be sure. And you and I are pretty much of the same opinion that Celestia is actually one of the weakest out of the 4 princesses at the moment (as much as I love sun butt).

I'm desperately hoping they explain that Celestia's powers have been waning with time, and age is just affecting her ability to take on her foes. It would take only a couple lines of dialogue, a scene

"Twilight...I'm not as powerful as I once was"

SOMETHING to explain why her feats that she's been seen doing are pretty unimpressive for even a unicorn. Like that Sombraverse where the war was going on, she like forcepushed a handful of soldiers...and that's about it. From what we've seen she's nowhere near as capable as Cadence or Twilight in battle, and they are sitting on the most acceptable answer they could give

"I'm getting to old for this"

I don't quite hate the comics like you do, but I completely understand your ire with them.

While you make valid points about sunbutt people, it isn't for this thread.

That said my quick thought on Tia- she is as strong or as weak as the plot needs her to be, and that's that. But I don't need a baby that fits the same criteria, because Celestia has characterization at least.

It's a little odd how Cadence and Shining ended up having such a powerful baby. I see Cadence as the least powerful, when it comes to just bare magic and nothing helping out (Love, for instance) as the weakest Alicorn out of them. (I don't hate Cadence, I really enjoy her character, I simply see her as a little weaker than the others.) Shining himself doesn't seem all that strong when it comes to magic, so it's a little weird in my opinion that their child has that much power. They should have made it either a Unicorn or a Pegasus, their child never should have been an alicorn. That's just my opinion.

Babies never do much for a show either, they usually end up dragging it down. So much attention is showed towards them, and they usually end up just becoming blank, useless FOILs that only serve the purpose of showing how one character in the show is kind, sweet, loving, etc; or giving them some backround or roundness. Again, my opinion.

However if it wasn't Flurry who caused the storm, say it was Sombra or somepony, then Flurry's magic would simply be out of control; we wouldn't have a grasp on how powerful she is.

However again if it does turn out to be her, or she ends up solving the problem, then I see a need for her powers to be drastically reduced or to somehow be shown as being amplified by others means.
