While watching "A gift for Maud" and seeing the scene where Maud tracks down that guy to had Pinkie's Party cannon..

 

Maud: There..

Rarity: That's amazing! How'd you know where he'd be?

Maud: Maud sense..

Pinkie: Runs in the family.

 

It got me thinking..

 

What exactly IS Maud sense?

 

I mean, we know what Pinkie sense is.. Which is pretty much a prediction of vague and immediate events..

But we don't exactly know what Maud sense is..

 

Is it sensing the location of specific objects?

Is it sensing the emotional connection to objects (and possibly ponies)?

Is it.. sensing certain rocks that may have been attached to Pinkie's cannon?

Is it.. sensing negative energy from within ponies? (Wait.. But then why did she find HIM first.. surely he's not the only bad pony in Manehattan..)

Or what about.. sensing certain metals, and Maud knew what kind of metal Pinkie's cannon was made of?

 

We're not really told what it is.. All that we're just told is basically: "Maud sense.. It's a thing.."

 

What do you think Maud sense is?

That.......makes a lot of sense. I recall that whenever Maud played Camoflague with Boulder and Pinkie's friends, she's always able to find Boulder (albiet he was in Maud's pocket the whole time, essentially turning the game into a wild goose chase in the end)

I think that all of your points are pretty likely to be what Maud sense actually is.

But I think it's either the location of a specific object or the emotional connection. Most likely location of object, though...   I'd like to see some more of her Maud sense. Very interesting! Since Pinkie's sense tells her different things everytime something twitches on her.

She literally finds him in a second. Not to mention, most pony's would probably lose a small rock pretty quickly, but not Maud. 

Also they still had to look for the pouch pony.

No, I'm pretty sure designing dresses and clothing is Rarity's special talent, bundled along with precision magics. The gemspell location thing appears to simply be a spell that can be mastered.

Then again, it may just be that Maud has a very good "sense" of intuition, like a mother. She's already been shown in the same episode to sense when something's off with Pinkie and she was able to break Rarity and the sleazebag just by confronting them.

Are we forgetting about something here? I'm not sure if this was intended as a one-time joke or something but Cheese Sandwich also has what is called 'The Cheesy Sense'. As of right now, I'm still not sure what that even is.

I think she was hinted to Pinkie's missing cannon by using logic.. Maud wasn't really shown to sense something's wrong with Pinkie, it's just she wasn't using her party cannon for the confetti like she would of otherwise.. which is why Maud asked "Why isn't she using her party cannon?" and then she begun to be suspicious..

 

Wouldn't it be cool if Maud actually sensed lies?

I'd say the Maud sense revolves around finding things, since that's what it was used for. That would also make it pretty down-to-earth, which I think fits Maud perfectly.

And on the subject of her calling after Boulder while looking for him, he's her pet, isn't he? If Maud sense finds objects, then she couldn't use it to find her beloved pet rock, now could she?

Maud Sense is plot convinence cleverly justified by a throw back to Pinkie Sense.

 

But if we want to go all out "Game Theory" on this, It's probably the ability to pick up different people locations by communicating with Rocks, because obviously doesn't pretend to understand rocks right?
