gaming Is Pokemon Satanic?

If you look up "is Pokemon satanic" on the Internet, the first thing you come up with is a video. I did some internet research about it, and apparently religon does not like Pokemon. Do you know anything that people hate on relentlessly?

There's a lot of strange religious people who instead of just deciding that some game or show doesn't fit in with their beliefs and that's that, they have to decide it must be "Satanic" for some reason. Mario, Pokemon, MLP, Doctor Who, Dragon Ball. they'll use it for anything they don't like, or want their kids viewing/playing. They'll somehow pick satanic imagery out of anything.

 

 It's not exclusive to religion, honestly. People do that with anything they don't like for whatever reason. "MLP is Sexist!", "Super heroes promote violence!", "Video games cause shootings!", "My son's pet rock turned him gay!". The list goes on.

 

 Pokemon isn't satanic, and neither are any of those other things. Even if it was...What, Satan's hobby is making fun video games for all ages? Seriously, are we sure the guy is actually evil in that case?

I remember back in sixth grade (this was way back when Pokemon was just entering G2 in the USA) I remember there was this girl in band who insisted that Pokemon was satanic.

 

I never got it... But then again, I never really was into being religious myself. I just went along with it because my parents and family were religious. They were never religious like that (except for maybe my grandpa, but it wasn't Pokemon, it was more Harry Potter).

 

I have no clue why they think it's satanic, and to be honest, I don't really even care. =P

I've never understood that. I have never had the impulse to kill, or worship Satan from playing Pokemon. Neither from Harry Potter. And just general video games. I have never wanted to commit mass murder cause I play halo. It's like DooM. Someone said a school shooting would be like playing DooM. No it wouldn't. Pokemon or any games that are supposed to be satanic teach you the dark arts or witchcraft. If the people who critized it looked deeper into the game, maybe they would see the bigger and not evil picture.

Though in all seriousness, the sort of religous person that would believe that a computer game is harmful to their religion probably haven't considered that it's only fiction. Or have likely got their info second hand.

 

Or are really scared of the implications of the Helix Foccil on todays youth.

 

Religious worryworts have been creating hubbub over the oddest things, such as barcodes in the 80's. They thought they were the 'Mark of the Beast' for some reason. Here's a relatively recent example:

When I was little my mother never let me ad my little brother watch pokemon because it is satanic, we were also not alowed to play games that had blood or some kind of violence in it.

 

I used to accept that as a kid because what your parents say is true but later I began to question it and started agruing with my parents about it. Then she alowed us to watch it but only if she was watching too. I remember watching a pokemon movie and my mother stopping the movie almost at the end to say: 'see what they are doing, they are presenting you some kind of religion that isn't true.' I didn't understand it and simply replied with 'don't worry mommy, I don't beleve in pokemon.' and that was it. I still don't get it though :/.

 

Now, many years later she doesn't even care anymore, we can watch and play pokemon without any trouble but other kinds of anime are still not alowed because basicly every anime is 'satanic'.

It's weird how some parents (not all, some are very understanding and look into it before they make assumptions) seem to think that children are so gullible. Maybe a five year old might think they are real, but he's not going to worship the, as a religon. Take a look at this video I managed to find. It's about 2 hours long, and how this "satanic" priest converted to Christianity, and at the end he talks about how Pokemon is satanic. ( it's also quiet old, you can see the original pikachu, the cutest thing ever!)

Everything is "satanic" that isn't strictly under the control of religion. That's the whole point of calling it "satanic" in the first place. evolution is "satanic", Anime is "Satanic", homosexuality is "satanic", anything your given pastor or religious nut doesn't like is "satanic", Its just how they operate. 

 

If they do like whatever it is, they'll say its not. All it is is superimposing your own personal preferences onto some imagined deity or demon to attempt to give that opinion some validity among their own little religious circles. Its also a way they can fabricate reasons to judge others. Nothing more.

I can't say I've ever heard anyone saying that Pokemon is satanic, but I have heard people objecting to it on animal rights grounds.  Given that the entire premise of the game is to capture and enslave animals, keep them imprisoned in a tiny ball and then force your slave animals to fight someone else's slave animals for both your and their mutual enjoyment, I can see the point they're trying to make.  Even if I don't agree with them at all.

 

Some people like to try and read depth into entertainment that isn't necessarily there, we all see it on this forum every day for example.  Some of those discussions can be fun, sometimes they're just a bit ridiculous.

 

Calling Pokemon satanic probably fits into the latter category.

I was in grade 3 when I encountered that crap. My parents sent me to a Catholic school for 2 years to catch up on my weak math abilities. But I said the hell with it and just partook in my forbidden activities at home. What a little rebel I was.

 

Seriously though, the whole thing was dumb back then and somehow even dumber today. While you could be fighting real evils and injustices in the world, pokemon is clearly the obvious target to go after. Oh, and also for some reason, star wars was OK. You know, with the whole Jedi religion, the force, the laser swords and guns...

I will bet there are some crazies that think Star Wars is satanic too, especially if they saw some of the things the ancient Sith did in the expanded universe novels and comics. People used to argue in the 50's that comics were of the devil and encouraged juvenile delinquency and this was an actual mainstream position by the way while that is thankfully not the case with Pokemon is satanic unless you live in some third world hellhole.

Christian propagandists like to demonize things like pokemon for a few reasons:

 

1: Evolution.... Pokemon features creatures that evolve....as we know hard core creationists are hell bent on demonizing evolution because it pretty much destroys a quarter of the bible.

 

2: The origin of the game is Asian....  Asian countries do not have a majority of Christian followers, in fact the most prolific religions in Asia are very different from the narratives in Christianity, and many do not have a god. This has led to the demonizing of Asian cultures by extremist creationists.

 

3: False idols: Games where you raise creatures or play god are often demonized by extreme creationists because they believe the players are giving into false idols... pokemon just so happens to fall into this category.
