Major kudos to South Korea winning gold in both men's & women's team archery competitions. They must be favorites heading into the individuals.

As for shooting US got a bronze in women's trap while women's 10m air pistol was won by Mengzue Zhang of China. Love this stuff. <3

There is this one south korean (which name i don't know right now) who scored almost 700 points in one game. What kind of archery machine do you have to be, to do that?

That was a fun and INTENSE gold metal match between Pelliello of Italy and Glasnoviv of Croatia; with the latter getting the gold. Trap shooting is awesome to watch. :)

South Korea is usually the nation to beat in archery.

:)

I believe it now. This is the first time I have ever paid attention to archery as such, and now I am hooked. I've looked back at the WAF World Cup and World Championships; South Korea is indeed an archery powerhouse. :)

I am very much an Olympic Grinch, I see the whole thing as little more than a quadrennial advertising expo.  Every time it comes around it becomes more and more a parody of everything that it is supposed to stand for, with professional athletes competing in ever more events and the rabid commercialisation of the entire thing.

The Olympic organising bodies have gone as far as trademarking twitter hashtags like '#Rio2016' to prevent companies that are not official Olympic sponsors from using them, even those smaller companies that are not official sponsors of the games, but who have sponsored individual athletes to allow them to get to the games are forbidden from using them to cheer on their adopted athletes.  In London 2012, athletes and other people directly connected to the games were forbidden from visiting local chip shops, because McDonalds was the only official provider of chips for the games (for the Americans among you, chips are what you call fries).

That kind of crass commercialisation has left me with absolutely no interest in the games, and although I do have due respect for some of the competitors, I will not watch them competing for the pleasure of their corporate paymasters.

Even after that rant I would never criticise someone else for watching and enjoying the games, it's purely my own view of it, and I don't look down my nose at anyone that doesn't share that view.

I don't really agree with you. But i don't want to turn this into a debate, because i want to keep politics out of the olympics. :)

Sadly politics are very much part of the games now, it comes hand-in-hand with the money, the more of the latter that is involved the more the former will be.  However, My last point was that I'm not trying to convince anyone that my view is the right one, it's just how I personally feel about it. You have your own views, and I hope you've been enjoying the spectacle so far and will continue to do so for the next couple of weeks.

ANyone see the women's final in Rugby 7's? The players were so proud they could burst even before the game started. It's the first time women's rugby was a part of the olympics. The final was well played and very enjoyable. The tears continued for both the Australien winners and the runners-up from New Zealand. After the game the Newzealanders, tears over the loss still burning in their eyes, engaged in a "haka", which is a battle dance, and in this particular instance, a way of acclaiming their opponents. Say what you will about the pure essence of sportsmanship being whittled away by commercialism: there are still instances where it shines, and brightly.

I saw the game as well, and i totally agree.

That's why i still love the olympics. So many people look at the bad things, while overlooking the good. The Olympic spirit still lives. :)

I saw this last night and had to take a photo of the TV screen. I'm not surprised that this face became famous so quickly. :P

Michael Phelps is not amused.

Just for clarification; this wasn't air rifles, nor air pistol. This was pure pistol. :)

Germans Tabletennis Star Dimitri Ovtcharov, played and won one set in his last match, 30-32.

This is the highest played set, in the history of Professional Tabletennis.

I do feel a bit bad for Chad le Clos of South Africa (the other swimmer in the funny screenshot I took yesterday). He didn't even win a medal. He's the face of the sport in his home country and he's competing for his father who has cancer as well as his mother whose cancer is in remission. Of course I want the United States to do well, but I don't like a lot of the American media bias towards home-grown athletes. There are many amazing stories among foreign athletes.

There's an interesting matchup coming tomorrow in women's individual archery. Dang Un Ju of North Korea against Chang Kyejin of South Korea.

I know I really shouldn't be expecting anything as they are athletes, but I kinda hope for some solidarity between them considering the issues between the two Koreas. :)

There actually used to be a time, where both koreas came in together during the opening ceremony.

EDIT: Another Gold Medal for Germany. Barbara Engleder won the 50m Rifle event, with an Olympic record score.

I am finding the Olympics rather entertaining, I suppose, despite the fact that I often tend to show a lack of interest in sports. I've been enjoying the diving and gymnastics, but that's all I've been watching due to it being on in the background. Every time I watch any sport, though, I haven't a clue how they do it.  :twi: Must take an awful lot of time and effort to prepare for everything.

German Archary competitor Lisa Unruh, won surprisingly silver, in the womens archery singles competition. She is the first athlete in german history, who won a medal in archery single.
