I was disappointed to not see Spike in this episode, but it's probably for the best. Nick Confalone has yet to write a single line of dialogue for him in any of the episodes he's penned, so he either doesn't like Spike or doesn't feel comfortable writing for him. Plus if Spike were around he probably would have objected to the Mane 6 locking Rarity in the window display and that would have been a plothole.

Still, Spike's insights on the situation would have been perfect for the interview scenes!

He wrote Hearthsbreakers which featured Spike in the opening scene. Remember ... he gets a book from Twilight, much to his chagrin.

Also, as I said on the Equestria TV live stream, I'll definitely back the Kickstarter of anypony who has the skill and desire to make plushies of angel and devil Rarity.:D

You do have two plushie makers on staff ;)

Is the moral of this episode "don't obey your friends if you can't be yourself"? If it is, that doesn't seem like proper advice.

Anyways, I really liked the gags and bits of humor that made the ep flow smoothly and stay interesting. They reference past episodes and inserted some entertaining parts like the Rarity shoulder angels and Pinkie's clone. I liked how they really brought out each of the Mane 6's personalities. I give it 8.5/10.

Nah. The moral was more akin to 'trust in your own talents and instincts to create a solution for a friend'.

Like it was previously mentioned by a few othets ... this episode is like the obverse side of Castle Sweet Castle where sometimes you have to take a step back and remove your own instincts from the equation.

Aye! Some people may see this as a hypocritical and inconsistent moral, but personally I think it's great that the staff are basically saying, "Each problem is unique and different. A tried and true method that works for one thing may not work for another."

It's brilliant and really adds depths to the moral rather than having a flat single-sided lesson. It's great that they chose the other side of the coin!

This was an amazing episode. That Russian pony and that daughter of his had me rolling. The only flaw I have is that her dad had a Russian accent and she had no trace of an accent at all.

If it was his "niece" it would have made more sense that she had no trace of an accent at all. But, that's a minor thing for me, everything else was spot on. I loved this episode, it was so funny.

Doh! I shouldn't have forgotten about that opener - that's the scene that pretty much renewed my faith in how close Twilight and Spike are. >_<;

I went and looked at Nick's Twitter account after I commented, it does seem like he appreciates the scaly one after all! I guess it just seemed odd that Spike is rarely featured in any of his stories.

I will say this episode was pretty tight on time constraints; I can see why there would be no room in the story to add an additional member to the prep crew. (Although a few more hoofs and claws from Spike and Starlight would have helped expedite getting the shop ready.)

I guess Spike and Starlight will have to find something to do to amuse themselves back at the castle! =D

If only we can get an episode with those two as mains. This would be a great opportunity since they've done parallel episodes before. :D  Note: if anypony knows they're already doing this then don't tell me.

I missed the end of the episode earlier today, but now that I have seen it...wow; it really all comes together.

Well done Confalone. <3

Initially I didn't really like the episode that much.. It didn't have the interesting plot i expected..
But overall it did have enough funny/good moments in it to make it enjoyable :P

Some of my favorites being:

The Secret Pinkie Clone

The cool and funny sweep sweep sweep song :P

After the previous two episodes that made me criticize episodes unlike the usual, I am genuinely pleased with this episode and I think it was great, well done Confalone indeed. While not being a big fan of Rarity, her episodes get better and better and I started enjoying her episodes at least from the previous season, this one being one of if not her best, imo.

I was lost at first what was happening and what was being retold then I figured out it goes like that: Aftermath: the Mane 6 are afraid of Rarity learning about all that she was going to read. Reasons: They shared a lot of things not realizing their interviews are being written down/recorded, and may hurt Rarity (or was it all to hide the problems of preparing the Boutique for opening) . I think there is no problem that did not happen, in fact it is realistic when you are excited about something like that to not pay attention to e.g RD's imitating Rarity. Then there were these funny moments, I liked Twi's sweep dance and I liked the music that DJ Pon3 was playing, until Pinkie replaced it with that boring one. Funniest moments must have been the sweep dance, RD acting like Rarity (RD missed saying 'The Horror!!') but all of the Mane 6 were very cute here. I loved the funny moments like the mess they made when nothing worked, RD trying to make the candidates for work race was hilarious. Coco Pommel , good to see her again, she was cuter when not sick xD

It was also the first type of this kind, like interviews with the Mane 6. Poor Spike has been left home?   ^_^   All in all it was a nice episode, very refreshing <3

Good episode. Probably going to be best of season 6

I like how it was a reverse lesson on Castle Sweet Castle, not to do things how they thought their friend wanted it done, but to trust their own judgements.

Liked how much fun dork Twi was having. Liked the faces, the fun scenes, the cameos.

But why did Rares wait till the last minute to get the place together? If she wasn't in Ponyville, tied to her friends, she could've been preparing her shop all this time

i really loved this episode so far. the writing was good and the ponies learned to find other methods to make rarity's store a success without hurting other ponies xD (they did but at least they made it up for it :) ) it was weird how dashie made the three salesponies have a race in the middle of manehattan (other than the fact shes trying to hire them as rary's employees)

it was nice seeing coco pommel there. but too bad she couldnt be her employee :( awww. hope she gets well soon

they could'vebeen living apart for a while. Daughter in manehattan, dad from wherever he picked up the accent from. Dad only coes to check in on daughter or building tennants every so often, so that Manehattan accent doesn't have time to sink in.

If only we can get an episode with those two as mains. This would be a great opportunity since they've done parallel episodes before. :D  Note: if anypony knows they're already doing this then don't tell me.

Oh Rarity, how do you do this? From the mane six, you're my least favorite (least favorite not worst) and yet you bring out some of the best episodes.

This was probably one of the most unique episodes that i have seen in the series. The way the story was told, with the interview of the Mane six was a phenomenal idea and shows that there are still some creative juices left in the team.

Alot of the shenigans where very hilarious, especially my Twily had some of her best moments, with her OCD kicking in and her sweeping march. (She remembers what Mary Poppins said "in every job there must be done, there is an element of fun." :P) Also, 3 seconds flat?...Really?

It was also a great moral. You help friends by helping them with your individual strength and not in a way that your friends would do it. It would kill the purpose of it, since your friends don't think like you.

Also, is it just me, or does Vinyl Scratch appear alot in this season? I mean, it didn't effect the episode for me. But i feel that there is a certain sort of trend here.

All in all, with Hearths warming tail, the episode this season. Though, it was probably the better episode from a writing standpoint. But again, i have a soft spot for christmas specials. :P

But why did Rares wait till the last minute to get the place together?

I think that Rarity mentioned something about the timing being important when Twilight said she should postpone. Likely has something to do with a compressed timeline. Also going to use my degree to answer this question

This was probably the first purely comedic episode of the season, and I thought it was a lot of fun. The mockumentary sitcom style was quite possibly the last thing I expected, although in retrospect the alternative title "Saddle Row & Rec" makes it seem obvious. But really, this episode had a lot of interesting, urban touches that I would never have expected from the show, and I had a blast watching. It's lightweight in terms of character development and themes, but every single one of the mane six is really entertaining to watch. Also, it's hard not to love an episode where Pinkie Pie is dragged out of a dance club by security. Just the most Pinkie Pie thing imaginable.

Review on my blog here

Additional thoughts:

Having a hard time choosing between Pinkie and Twilight for the best character in this. Pinkie at the dance club is a match made in heaven, but Twilight was nerding out hardcore with the organization. They're both absolutely delightful.

Of course, Fluttershy having to reluctantly and tearfully evict the raccoons was fantastic as well, as was Applejack's single-minded practicality and Rainbow Dash not really knowing what she's doing. So many great character moments.

Shoutout to the other Pinkie in the pancake scene. Also, shoutout to Pinkie pushing the bill to the interviewer. Yeah, Pinkie was the best in this, I'll say.

What are the chances that DJ Pon-3 just happens to be at every party the mane six go to? Aren't there any more DJs in Equestria? Also, are they ever going to acknowledge her real name?

Who is managing the Manehattan store, anyway? Is it Coco?

Rainbow Dash seems to have forgotten how recently it was Rarity who was saving her from all of her dreams coming crashing down.

I'm sure there's a bunch of details that I didn't even catch the first time through. Cannot wait to watch through this season again.

What a great episode so far, also without spoilers said by Rarity, sweeping the mess, and the best ending part with happiness! :D However with Coco Pommel, I suppose she'll feel better without sickness.

9.5/10 - Very entertaining
