Tanks for the Memories was immensely sad for me. The entire tone of the episode was depressing. Rainbow being in denile her expressions near the end when she is hugging Tank, her tone of voice when she is breaking down, it all really got to me. There are other episodes that have sad scenes, but this one get sad early on and progressively becomes moreso as it goes.

When BigMac can't keep up with her famous and successful sister and the beginning of the talk with Applebloom in the end of the episode.

Or some moments when they say that having friends solve everything or something like that.

Not sad, but depressing.

That one episode, where Michael gets mad at Nate, but he was just trying to help, and they find Anson, and Nate's got him at gunpoint, and Michael's all like, "It's about time." But then a shot is fired and Nate gets blood on his face, and Michael gives the "Uh oh" face, and it turns out Nate got shot, and Michael runs up to him, and he's like, "No," and Nate's like "I'm scared." And they're both crying and they play this sad song and Madeline smacks Michael and Fiona gets out of prison but she doesn't know that Nate is dead.

... Oh wait, wrong show. Idk, that one part of Magical Mystery Cure, I guess.

Tanks for the Memories made me cringe at how terrible it executed everything it set out to do. I have said it before, and I will not stop saying it, but the "Mosey" 2-parter of Horseland did everything TftM tried to do, but 10000000x (give or take) better. Tanks for the Memories looked like a Labor Day Celebration with how "sad" it was, in comparison.

Obviously nobody has seen that show, however, so I doubt anyone would relate.

As an answer to the actual question, I will agree with an earlier post that Twilight singing in the season 3 finale was the most depressing. But depression is not the same as sadness. That honor would be taken leaps and bounds by Brotherhooves Social. Big Mac's confession to Applebloom made my eyes quite... I cried at that scene okay.

I couldn't call any of them depressing...

Yeah, all the episodes listed were more sad than depressing.

The only episodes that did something close to depress me were those that had a terrible theme.

For instance, Mysterious Mare-Do-Well, where the theme was basically, "rainbow needs to be knocked down a peg, so let's humiliate her!"

But even then, "depression" is not the thing I feel the strongest.  I'm more angry about such episodes.

Gloom and Bloom I think it was called.  Having an unlikable cutie mark (job) made me feel kind of down.  The idea of having a crappy job for the rest of my life just makes me feel depressed.

Exactly this! There are tons of episodes that make me sad or emotional, but depression (and anger) are words I reserve for signs the show is going down the toilet. Flutter Brutter comes to mind.  :(

Most depressing episode..?   It would have to be Season 6's Episode 4 On Your Marks and not really depressing in a good way.    Here we have the Cutie Mark Crusaders trying to figure out what the hell to do with their newly acquired cutie marks.  Only to find out that outside of a couple of ponies, their cutie marks are utterly worthless.   I hated this episode for this very reason.  They've went through all these episodes trying to get their cuties marks and are left with nothing but confusion and disappointment.   So then they have this idea to split up and do their own thing cause the whole cutie mark crusader thing isn't working out for them.    It's a pretty depressing episode and another example why season 6 writers just suck.

An then we have the episode with Rainbow Dash joining the wonderbolts.  Her life long dream.   Ruined because the wonderbolts consist of a bunch of A-Holes.

Magical Mystery Cure. Poor Twilight grew these... things on her back and she's had to live with them since!

Not to mention all of the new responsibilities she's suddenly had thrust on her.

Can't say I find a lot of episodes especially saddening, but if we go by a more negative take on depressing:

"Magical Mystery Cure" - So much emphasis on "destiny" is deeply upsetting to me. Do these ponies even control their own lives?

Plus, as mentioned earlier, Twilight basically has new appendages and a new social status thrust on her, with no preparation and at least the former without her consent.

"Twilight Time" - I find the chanting crowds rather distressing. This is what Twilight has to deal with for the rest of her life.

"Appleppsa's Most Wanted" - Takes the horrible destiny thing from MMC and makes it worse.

"The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone" - I find this episode kinda bleak, even in spite of its attempts at humour. Something about the state of Griffonstone.

It's hard for me to find a Depressing Episode.

I do find very depressing scenes

My top 3 depressing scenes would be: 1) Rainbow Dash sad and depressed in Tanks for the memories. 2) Moondancer's reflection on Twilight Not showing up to her party in Amending Fences. 3) Twilight is told off by almost everypony at the end in A Canterlot Wedding part 1

Destiny is a revolving concept in the show. They have episodes where it's not relevant, but in the end, it usually is.

Overall, though, it seems Twilight has accepted her role. Sure, she ends up be 'uneasy' about it, but always comes out strong in the end.

Griffonstone, same. I'd like to revisit that and see if anything is fixed. Considering a few pastries aren't really going to change what an entire society was built upon.

Ponyville Confidential for me...I mean...look what the CMC had to go through all because of that spoiled Diamond Tiara...

I don't find any episodes particularly depressing, but Ponyville Confidential and the end of A Canterlot Wedding really hit me.

In Ponyville Confidential, I feel very sorry for the CMC, given the fact what they have to go through in that episode. They publish gossips, and when they notice things are going south (with Rarity being mature and explaining to SB the downsides of gossiping) they really want to stop only for DT to blackmail them into continuing, and later on they're shunned by the rest of Ponyville because of it and CMC could do little to nothing about it except write up an apology and slip it by without DT noticing. Pretty heartbreaking if you ask me.

And at the end of A Canterlot Wedding... Well... Twilight's friends abandon her and Celestia says "You have a lot to think about" with an angry look on her face, prompting Twilight to tear up... and then she gets sent into the dark caves beneath by none other than "Cadance" whom she just accused of being evil, and Canterlot almost gets conquered in the second part because of that.

Depressing? None of the episodes registered as depressing per se. Poignant is another story entirely as there are ... several. These usually surround personal experiences that I associated with the episodes. By being personal they receive a greater chance of approbation, irrespective of the inner logic repudiating that sentimentality. I am a sucker for such moments of intimate melancholy. These episodes are Crusaders of the Lost Mark, Amending Fences, Sisterhooves Social, Flight to the Finish, Tanks for the Memories, and Sleepless in Ponyville.

EDIT: Jesus, I think I ate John Adams this morning or something. :/
