Why did they rig the judges?

It was to get them on the stage to be locked underneath. If Trixie won, there'd be no reason for the Rainbooms to be there.

Here's the thing: the Rainbooms would have been in the same exact conflict with each other, the goal of the Dazzlings.

My understanding is that the Dazzlings needed them close by to absorb their anger. If they're right under the stage, trapped, then there's nothing they can do. And since they were already having minor conflict between them, I imagine that the Dazzlings knew that those negative feelings would only increase. Obviously, the Rainbooms blamed each other for what went wrong, escalating their emotion.

If they hadn't been trapped, the Rainbooms still would have had the potential opportunity to try and stop the Dazzlings. So, kill two birds with one stone: take out the main competition, and gain power from the resulting fight. It didn't work for the Dazzlings, but I see what their train of thought was.

It was so that Trixie and the Illusions would lure them into the bottom of the stage where the girls would end up in a big arguement so that the Dazzlings could feed off of their negative energy and boost their own powers and finally reawaken as the Sirens.
