gaming Pokémon Go Is Finally Out

Today I managed to catch 2 Weedles, a Kakuna, and an Oddish.

So today I was at a theatre watching a fairly long musical, so at intermission I decided to check for any Pokémon in the theatre. I managed to catch 2 Weedles and a Pidgey, but I saw there was a Squirtle nearby, but it was starting back, so I didn't have time to find it. Ugh. I should have marched right on stage looking for it.

So I just found out that Pokémon Go is finally out, so obviously I freaked out, caught a few Pokémon on it, and went here hoping to find others freaking out, but apparently I'm the only one, so I made a topic. What are your first impressions on the game? Have you been excited for this? Have you found any good Pokéstops yet? Here is a place to discuss anything and everything about it so far. Have fun!

Oh dear, that is quite bad. I guess it is a good thing that I live in the middle of nowhere. I rarely run in to other people, and if I ever do go into town I don't often leave a car.

Roads are used by gangs.  Stores are used by gangs.  Pokemon Go will have more active users than twitter by tomorrow so it's said, and it would be sad madness to not play the game out of fear.  Trainers need only be careful- be aware and don't go to lures in the ghetto alone in the middle of the night unless you're cool with being killed or at least have decided you will not complain if you get robbed, you made the decision to risk it for the snorlax.

Absolutely not, because the 'success' of Pokemon Go will prove limited.

 

I guarantee you that this is the definition of a 'fad' app. The popularity it has right now is due to people who were kids in the 90s wanting a nostalgia rush. If they don't soon get bored with it, they will drop it the instant Niantic starts adding Pokemon beyond number 151, a lot of this popularity will drop off the face of Earth.

 

I know this because of the base of people I see IRL using it. My coworkers who are all over it are not fans of modern Pokemon. The say "there are way too many". They literally only care about Pokemon GO because of nostalgia. Once the "new" Pokemon get added, they won't care about it anymore.

People are going places they shouldn't be (locker rooms, overcrowded hospitals, etc.) to catch these Pokemon. It's clear they didn't think the mechanics through very well.

 

Way too many people are getting hurt, into trouble and dying because of this one little app. I don't expect the app to stay for long if all these problems keep up.

I dunno. For many, yes, but Pokemon is wildly popular with or without this and it sounds like they intend on improving it from where it is. People will continue to use it. To download it. Newcomers and oldies alike.

Yeah they have been only going to people that are on there own in secluded places where they can mug you or take your credit cards off you, steal your pin and make large withdrawals

 

so make sure if you see a group coming towards you, get the fuck out of there.

I got it and it's pretty fun. I don't have a phone though, so the only way I can use it effectively is if my dad is in the mood to walk around town with his hotspot on. Luckily, he also likes the game!

I don't have an iPhone, so will not be able to download the app anyway, but am I the only one disappointed that you can only find Gen 1 Pokemon? To me, that makes it kind of boring, as most of my favorites are from later generations. Anyone know if the app/game is planning on adding more Pokemon later?

coulda sworn i saw a producer sayin yeah but it's lost forever apparently, if not hallucinated.  Anyhoo, it seems likely, that more gens will be added, doesn't it?  Of course a dull amount of longtime players dislike new pokemon but new players won't feel that way filthy actual 11yo casuals.  More Pokemon = More variety in gym battles and future trading……more product.  It'll probably be a while, though.  There's a lot of fan discussion on how it's to be done in the meantime.  On reddit.

So today I was at an amusement park, when I realized that every single roller coaster there was a Pokéstop, and there were several gyms. Now I have so many eggs to hatch, and some more Pokémon. I met someone on the red team while we went back and forth over control of a gym, and found several other people playing the game. The potential to bring complete strangers together amazed me. In other news, my girlfriend just started watching the original series of Pokémon, and is planning on getting the app, if she likes the show. In other, other news, I ordered a sweatshirt that screamed Pokémon trainer, and one of Ash's many different hats. I am planning on wearing them with jeans around town to look like a Pokémon trainer. If it looks good I might even post a picture of it here or on the post a picture of yourself thread.

I got the game as soon as it came out, although I don't play it for more than an hour or two a day. My mom was actually a bit wary about me playing it at first, as she doesn't want me getting hurt, although now she's constantly asking me if I've found any Pokemon. She even invited me to go shopping with her just so I could play the game.
