gaming Nintendo 3DS owners: Do you use the 3D?

One of the originally defining features of the 3DS is, well, its 3D. Hence the name. The 3D feature was one that was very hit-and-miss when the system launched. Some games it looked awesome with, others it was pointless. For some people it caused headaches and eye strain, others it was fine. The 3D feature was also improved on the New 3DS as well.

I have been thinking, how much do all of you use the 3D feature, if at all? If you do, how much do you use it? What games do you use it for?

Me, I use it occasionally, for certain games like Ocrina of Time 3D and Dead or Alive Dimensions and sometimes Smash Bros. Hyrule Warriors Legends is one I would use it for, but even on the New 3DS where you actually can use the 3D for that game, it makes the game performance drop considerably when turned on so it is pointless.

So what about all of you?

No, it's a nice novelty, but it that's really about it, nothing much else, it doesn't add anything(in fact it murders the framerate in Hyrule Warriors)

No, I have eye problems so I've never even thought of using it. It was never why I wanted the 3DS anyway. To me it's a useless gimmick. The reason I wanted a 3DS was Nintendo introduced such a quality future line-up for it when it was introduced.

(Wish Nintendo could do that again...)

I rarely if ever use it because it kills battery and it was just a gimmick to sell the thing to address the 3D craze that was going on at the time. Nowadays notice Nintendo seldom advertises the 3D feature because they realized it was a gimmick.

That would be a no. It is a nice feature to have, but I own a 3DS because of the game library and general ease-of-use. It's a great system in general; 3D or not. :)

I don't use my 3DS anymore. (main because I lost it...) But when I did use it, I never used the 3D, it didn't look too great and my eyes are really sensitive to 3D movies and this was no exception.

Nah. I only have a 3DS because of the games, I never really was a huge fan of 3D overall, hurts my eyes.

Nope. I have really wonky eyes so I'm not even sure if the 3D effect even works for me. Even if it did, it's such a drain on the already short battery that I've never seen a reason for it. Overall, the whole thing is just one poorly executed gimmick and only reason I bought it were the DS exclusive games like Pokemon.

Lol, I haven't touched my 3DS in ages. I've played games where things pop out of the screen, but not so much that it hurts the eyes (ex: Shovel Knight). I like little details like that in 3D, but the whole entire game in 3D? No thanks. I usually just turn it off.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh... not really. Some games it can make them look better, like Mario 3D Land and Zelda A Link Between Worlds, but the vast majority of 3DS games I've found actually look worse in 3D ie the framerate getting worse and the anti-alising turning off in a lot of cases, at least in most of the games I play anyway.

wow, the responses here SHOCK me.

i use it most of the time, for all my games.

now, from time to time I turn it off when I get tired, or when my hands are moving a bit, but I turn it right back on for the next session.

it is true that using it takes a bit of effort but it is well worth the effort.  when playing through Fire Emblem, I specifically watched the pointless fighting animations more often just because they looked so cool in 3d.  I often did a fair number of pointless mega-evolutions in pokemon as well.  I don't NEED it, but I do enjoy it

Nope; it hurts my eyes, really. It's a great 3D effect, I don't know about everyone else, but I find the graphics do only appear clear when I hold the system at a very specific angle. If ever I do switch it on though, I set it rather low, as it does work well on certain games.

Not that often. As much as the games look cool with the 3D effect, it strains my eyes and decreases my focus on the game and more on the graphics.

I have a bit of a lazy eye so the whole 3D thing doesn't ever look right, the new 3DS seems to do it a bit better but it's still painful to actually game with.

Rarely. I have the new 3DS so it's not too hard to find the sweet spot, it's just a lot of the games I own don't really take advantage of the 3D or cause major performance dropping. I remember StarFox being really cool though, haven't played it for a while.

I have the 3ds xl and it was terrible.

Yea on my old XL it was pretty bad, but on the new 3DS XL is mostly OK with it.
