I just made this realization when watching the "Slice of Life" episode again..

You know how there was a changeling at Cranky and Matilda's Wedding?
 

 

What if that random changeling was actually Thorax?!

It's a possibility, but I believe that particular changeling's name is Kevin. Might've just been a joke, but I think that's his actual name on a CCG card?

He probably did have a disguise on during the wedding, but somehow it came off and he didn't notice it, which is why he doesn't appear nervous.

Answering topic question, I do not think so. Yes, it was a joke, but circumstance that there was a changeling in «Slice of Life» raises a question. Why was everypony in the Crystal Empire so afraid of a changeling although they already have met changelings before? Against this background, whole episode «The Times They Are A Changeling» seems improbable.

Here's a picture of both of them side-by-side.  Now, Changelings can obviously assume any form they want to, but if we make the bold assumption that their natural form is constant then we can see that there a few differences, particularly in the ears and tails.  Also, Thorax's eyes have a more greenish tinge to them than Kevin's, and Thorax's carapace is green while Kevin's is blue.

The color scheme is the first give-away that it wasn't Thorax, but now I have learned that this other changeling's name is Kevin, which is actually pretty amusing. XD Also, changelings are cute, something else this thread shows. :3

Decided to look at each just to get a better comparison.. Turns out there are a loooooot of differences each changeling can have
 

 

It really makes you realize that although they may look similar, changelings are quite unique..

They have their colors and gaps/notches/bites or.. whatever you wanna call them..

and with the amount of places these gaps can be.. No 2 changelings can ever be alike ^-^

The events of 'Slice of Life' took place in Ponyville, not the Crystal Empire, so most of the Crystal Ponies would never have met a Changeling before.  The news of one Changeling turning up to a wedding in Ponyville might not have been deemed newsworthy enough to have spread as far as the Empire, but the story of the invasion of Canterlot, even though it happened before the Empire's return, would certainly have been told.

Ever since "Times Are A Changeling" I consider Thorax to be the Changeling in "Slice Of Life" until I hear in an episode to the contrary. Especially since Thorax has been living on his own quite awhile.

Slice of Life is in many ways an episode that is too wacky to take seriously anyway. Doesn't look like Thorax with all the miniscule details though.

There's also the fact that the Crystal empire was gone for many years but returned some time AFTER the Canterlot Wedding..

It may have been old news for Ponyville, but for the Crystal empire it may have been the latest news from around Equestria..

 

Even though it was kind of the episode(s) after the hiatus when the crystal empire stuff happened, there's no way of telling how much time passed..

It does not matter. I mean that ponies already have met changelings, and a changeling that was eschewed by ponies at the wedding does not go to any comparison in the alarm that was raised because someone somewhere has seen a changeling with edge of one's left eye. So why did nopony in Ponyville give the alarm because of an enemy has get into the town hall in his real guise? Because of their differences of mentalities? And some ponies (Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, for instance) were at the wedding too.

Yeah, it looks like this debate is all wrapped up.  Not Thorax.  Airtight.  In addition to everything else, Thorax is clearly bigger.  He's mane 6 sized.  Kevin is CMC sized.  And don't gimmie this "time passage" stuff.  Don't tell me he grew up.  The CMC haven't changed size.  None of the school ponies have changed size.  No one's gonna convince me that time has passed for one character and no one else in the world.

Yeah, I brought this up in my main episode review.  I loved The Times They Are a Changeling, but Kevin does seem to present a glaring plothole.

Ah, but here's the thing.  Cadance and Armor were at Cranky and Mathilda's wedding!!  That can't easily be explained away.  It seems to me that the episode title should have been The Times They Have A Changelinged Already Last Season.

Interesting. I wonder if it's an individualism thing, or if Changelings vary by their hive.
