gaming SNES or Genesis?

I think they're both good, but the SNES had more games that I liked overall.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I grew up with the Master System and Megadrive/Genesis as well as Mega CD/Sega CD. It was constantly wars on the schoolyard about Sega versus Nintendo. It was easy to choose Sega at that time.

But every time I was at a classmate's house where there was a SNES, there were conflicts in me, seeing how truly grateful the games like Super Mario World and other games were.

But there are games that never would fit Nintendo back then, like some of my favorites: Sonic, Street of Rage, and Night Trap. And lesser Golden Axe, Super Monaco GP (basically the earliest arcade ports that aged very very fast)

The later titles of SNES kicks Genesis ass, like Super Metroid and Yoshi's Island. But that was in 1994 and 1995, By then the top game on the Genesis was "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" which is still one of my favorite games of all times.

Today I own both consoles, and I like both of them! The Genesis's sound chip (YM2612) can bring out very good music with it's FM synthesizer chip which is impossible to do on the SNES, but not if it is done in a generic way (which most games did, especially the U.S. titles). The processor in the Genesis is so powerful, and easy to program for and to understand/learn, that you can with just a little training create a very good game!

The SNES however, is a weird one. The CPU is blah and slow! And the sound is just samples (with echo applies to it sometimes). Most computers can do better sound than SNES, for free. But that's where the bad stuff ends! The graphics processor itself is a power beast that kicks even some of the low end computers today (maybe 10 years ago, but still). With so many DMA channels to use for special effects, and a lot of special graphics modes, there are still only a few games that took advantage of the full power. We are talking a lot of wasted potential. Nintendo put all the money into the graphics, but was "Super Mario World" really looking better than "Super Mario Bros. 3" (for the NES)? Really? Look again!

So I choose the Genesis. SNES had its share amount of good stuff, when you look at it from our future with the nostalgia glasses on, where all 6 years of its prime are combined into one perfect moment.

Super NES, hands down. I've played my share of Genesis games and have nothing against it, but the SNES has far more things on it that I enjoy versus the Genesis. I still have mine hooked up and still pop in old favorites to play on a TV to this day. The games aged a bit better on the SNES.

While I have vivid memories of playing the Genesis during summer vacations in Texas (yes, my paternal grandparents still had a Genesis, possibly a leftover from the 90s), I prefer them both.

I prefer the Genesis/Mega Drive, I'm kind of more biased towards the Mega Drive as it was my first console and I didn't get a SNES until many years later but I feel I prefer the games on the Mega Drive, particularly the Sonic and Streets of Rage games. When done well the Mega Drive's sound chip is also capable of some really great soundtracks too and I kind of prefer it's more electronic synth style over the SNES.

I like both consoles though and they both have their strengths and weaknesses, the SNES has better Graphics, Colours and Sounds but the Mega Drive has a more powerful processor, although the SNES used extra chips on some of the carts to enhance the processing power of the system. Think overall both systems kind of balance out though the SNES has the slight edge but my preference still lies with the Mega Drive.

Say SEGA!  They knew how to only do things right with Genesis:mlp_icwudt:
