MLP and Steven Universe are the last cartoons left from the golden era

2010-2013 was when cartoons were amazing again. 2010 kickstarted with Adventure Time, MLP, and Regular Show, 2011 with Gumball and Korra, 2012 with Gravity Falls and TMNT, and 2013 with Steven Universe and Wander Over Yonder. All of those shows are confirmed gone except for Steven and MLP.

 

This has me wondering; how will you think people will handle MLP ending?

Just like with any cartoon. Once a cartoon is over, it doesn't just suddenly disappear. I can still watch MLP just as easily as Sonic the Hedgehog, Halo Legends, or Samurai Pizza Cats.

 

Besides, there will be plenty more cartoons to follow. I would bet my right arm that there will be a new MLP cartoon within 5 years of FiM ending. Who knows, it might even be better.

Yeah I hope so. IMO the new MLP show should be aimed at those who grew up with FIM.

Who is to say also that new quality shows won't appear? There's still time before many of these shows end and that's time for new stuff to appear. Stop the doom and gloom, you're overreacting.

I'm pretty sure every "golden age" comes to a close and cries that this is the end. People are pretty damn creative so there will always be good writers, good musicians, good actors...it ebbs and flows.

Regular Show got mediocre, Adventure Time got terrible, Stephen Universe has always been awful, didn't see Gravity Falls, Korra's ending was terrible. But at least MLP has stayed consistent. I say The Loud House is the beginning of a new era.

 

But that's all just me.

"Golden age" is subjective, anyway. 

 

Regarding OP's post, there are still good shows. We Bare Bears, Loud House, and Star Vs. The Forces of Evil.

I don't watch many newer cartoons these days besides MLP (and Gravity Falls, which was incredibly fun) but i still have to raise my eyebrow a bit, because firstly the meaning of "golden era" has many definitions and is very subjective.

 

I grew up in the 90s and i grew up with shows like Batman: TAS, the powerpuff girls and Animaniacs. Shows that are still considered classics in the genre and which i still like to watch till this day.

 

The 90s where my personal favorite time, for cartoons. Is it Nostalgia bias? Probably. But i learned over time, that we're all a bit bias, when it comes to our opinions.

I'm kind of dreading the show's end too, it's about the only cartoon in recent years I really love, personally. Tried Gravity Falls, had fun but didn't think it was too amazing, tried Steven Universe, couldn't get into it. Tried Adventure Time, enjoyed a few things but nothing really made me want to come back.

 

 Even when I expand it to just TV shows in general, literally the only other show I really like is Doctor Who, and I still prefer MLP over it. So, I'm kinda going to be really low on options when MLP is gone, and knowing my specific tastes, I doubt there will be much else I'll love anytime soon.

 

 I'm sure most people will be fine once the show is gone, though a bit sad. Some will move on, and super loyal fans will stick around anyway, which I plan to. I'll probably rewatch the show for the 50th time one day, and I will still love it.

The golden age of kids' animation might be over, but the new golden age of adult animation has just begun. Rick & Morty, Bojack Horseman and Samurai fucking Jack...

 

As long as I'm not forced to look at real and boring people in completely realistic and boring settings, I'm happy. Doesn't matter what the age rating is.

Seriously speaking, have you seen the Stakes miniseries? That was pretty excellent despite reinstating status quo at the end. Heck, the show even apologized for that with a neat song!

I did notice that a lot of what we consider the top cartoons of the decade so far have ended already or are coming to an end. It's also important to note that Adventure Time is still running. I do believe MLP:FiM might be the next one to end, with Season 7 not yet having been confirmed, but there is the likelihood of another series coming out after that.

 

I wouldn't rule out another success coming sometime in the next few years, but some of the decisions networks have been making in the past few months have not impressed me. Some shows are good, but not enough of them are smash hits and I expect a bit more of a ratings slide across the board before things change.

 

UPDATE: Adventure Time will end in 2018, according to CN and various news outlets.

I wouldn't call them gone, 

 

for one thing , Regular show still has one season and Adventure time is ending in 2018 which means there is a slim chance that it will outlive MLP (I sincerely hope it won't) .

 

Plus we still have another pretty great  cartoon that's still going strong ^ ^

 

 

 

Also We bear bears is pretty awesome

 

Regardless though, if MLP:Fim  ended I would be sad and curious, Hasbro is a company whose made My little pony shows for years before they found the right formula, I don't think the question is whether or not they would make another MLP show but rather if they would learn from this and make another hit, or go back to their old ways...I'm honestly kind of curious on that....

OK, first off, what counts as a golden age is completely subjective to you, though admittedly, I like a fair amount of the shows you've listed here, so maybe we might be on the same page. Now, listen, this hasn't been the only good age of cartoons. In fact, take what you've wrote, replace the years 2010-2013 with 2000-2003 and replace the shows you mentioned with shows you like from THAT era and then you pretty much have the same situation.

 

EDIT: OK, on a side note, I have two more things to say. One, hats off to all the talented people behind those shows, for as critical as I've been of this post, It's really sad to see them go. Secondly, as much as you might want to, don't try to whine for the shows to be brought back with a new series or reboot, because we'll get it and it just won't match up. That's how shows like Teen Titans GO and the new Powerpuff Girls happen. There are good things about both shows to their own merit, but they can never match up to the originals, and even without comparing them the shows themselves can be very flawed. And this is still happening with shows like Samurai Jack and Ben 10. Not really related much, but I just thought I'd bring it up.

I'd go so far as to say that good shows /have/ happened after this.

 

The date range is a little silly too, since it only looks at when the cartoons started airing. Why did the "golden era" end in 2013, when all of those shows were still releasing new episodes?

Golden Era? HA! Young Man, or lady, Cartoons are in a major recession. We Just pulled out of the Dark Ages called the 2007-2015 era. Arguably we are still in the dark ages of cartoons. If you want to know what what golden era of cartoons were, It's 

1992–2001

Well there is still TMNT which is getting a 5th season, but no news on anything other than that, so it might also end in 2017.

The same goes for Steven Universe which is also in it's 4th season, but no news on whether or not it will get a 6th season.

But besides that right now we have shows like We Bare Bears and Star Vs the Forces of Evil on tv, and Milo Murphy's Law looks it will be good as well.

Miraculous Ladybug and the Loud House are also pretty enjoyable.

Plus there are shows that have yet to come that look like they could be promising such as the upcoming Big Hero Six cartoon, Justice League Action, a possible OK KO! full series.

This isn't even counting shows on Netflix like the pretty great Voltron Legendary Defender or Adult cartoons like Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman.

Right now there are a lot of great cartoons to watch so I would say that animation is going to be just fine.

Plus the 2010's have been a really great decade for the medium in general.

I would also argue that at least when it comes to TV, it's been better than the very overrated 90's.

That was the golden Era. 

Exactly, maybe till like 2005~ish, though. Most cartoons from these times were absolutely perfect. And yes, this is one of the worst stages of the cartoon era, definitely, for me atleast.

Steven Universe episodes aren't even 20ish min long which is one of my biggest gripes about the show.
