What do you like about the Internet?

I like being able to look up things I need to look up, but also the accessibility it allows for finding music. I also like some of the stuff the internet has allowed to become reality over its existence. Like videos people upload to it about certain things like video games in particular, and that allows people to connect (which does have its consequences). It also allows for communities of people with common interests to arise, and even helps people like myself find their significant other. :D

Though of course, there's plenty of negatives that are mostly indirect results of the positives... Like toxicity is probably the most notable of those.

Buying things online is great. Being able to search up answers to questions I have. Watch videos to entertain myself. Talking to people.

I've been on the internet a long time and there are a lot of things I love about it but lately there are a lot of things I hate about it. At one time it was just a niche for nerds. Everybody was comfortable with anonymity then you would occasionally share personal information with somebody you trusted. But you could just be the guy behind the avatar if you wanted. That was great if you're socially awkward. Now it's all: here's me, here's my picture.

Also, the internet used to be kind of the wild west. Now it's far too controlled and censored. How many places can you still say "fuck'? And everybody wants you to pay for something.

What I like about it is wikis, streaming video, message boards, and shopping.

What I hate is social media, selfies, and censorship.

Music:

I can find indie bands that need the support, new music to fall in love with, instead of only depending on what's being sold in CD stores.  It gives me a chance to go on sites like Bandcamp and find new music from genres that I enjoy.  The internet also helps me find new music from genres I never thought I'd like all that much(thanks youtube for recommending Orville Peck music to me because now I adore his music).

People:

I get to meet people all around the world who share my interests in one way or another.  The internet can be such a great thing sometimes and helps bring communities together.  I can talk to another hobby sewist about what they're making and it helps me learn how to sew.  It's great for finding new ideas and new techniques to improve on what I already know.  The internet also helps me find groups in my area or events I'd be interested in, wouldn't have known about the local knitting group, the D&D group or anything else really, without finding it online.

News:

I get to stay updated on what's going on in the world, for better or worse, so I don't need to only watch tv for my news either, I could find a reliable source of news that covers more of what I find to be important.

Video Games:

I probably wouldn't know about more than half of the video games that're being made right now if it weren't for the internet.  Paralives, a cool looking life simulator probably wouldn't be getting as much attention as it is now and it probably wouldn't have even left the ground if it weren't for the internet.  The internet also helps me keep up to date on development news for some of my old favourites, or learning of any new remakes for them, etc.  Also it helps when I have a bug or stuck in some quest and I can easily look up someone's walkthrough of the quest so I can find my way out of it, or find some way around the bug.  MODS!!!!!!  My favourite games wouldn't be as much fun without mods, some of the hairs I use in, say, sims 4 get dull after a while but it's good to be able to find cute hair that I actually like and use that in my game instead of the usual hairs that come with packs and stuff.

Shopping:

It's great that I can look for items that I want that might not be for sale in my country, like snacks or stuff like that.  It also gives me more options since something like my odd shoe size isn't even for sale at any local shoe store(I wear 9.5 W US men's) and having options makes finding shoes easier for me since the one place that actually carried my size was closed last year after the company pulled out of canada.  It's also nice checking out a store's inventory of things that might be only available online.

I like being connected to people.  I can easily find people with similar interests.

I couldn’t imagine how much more bored with life than I already am I’d be before the internet and didn’t know many people with the same less common interests as me.

Would feel so alone.

I like that I can look almost everything up and find informations pretty quickly. :) I'm an art and music lover, there's always something waiting for me to get discovered. Life without internet would be super boring and with far less surprises.

Memes. Out of context screenshots. Cute kitten videos. 4chan.

I like all of it.
