spoiler How exactly did the villain did that in the finale?

This is what can happen when you have to deal with time constraints with episodes. Even though the finale was forty-four minutes, that still wasn't enough time given how much was crammed into it. I actually counted seventeen characters who spoke in Part 1 and about ten in Part 2 who spoke. It's a shame that we didn't see how the Changelings were able to kidnap so many characters. Had they decided to make the finale into three parts instead of two, I'd like to think we'd have seen what happened.

Yeah, and not just that. Along with seeing how everyone was kidnapped by the Changelings and put into their cocoons, we could have also been shown how they were freed from their cocoons when Chrysalis' throne blew, instead of simply seeing the hive's center spire get its top blown off, and then seeing everyone recovering from their busted cocoons in the aftermath.

Having a three-part finale would have worked out a lot better than cramming so much into a two-part finale and causing some things to be rushed in the process.

I imagine it is just as frustrating for the writers as it is for the viewers. More often than not, they write a story only to have to keep trimming it down more and more just to make it fit those time constraints.

No matter how anyone fan-spins it, the capture of the princesses and to a lesser degree the Mane 6 would have been a sizable feat to pull off all things considered. Nabbing them in their jammies just really won't cut it since they are surrounded by whole empires who pretty much are watching them like microwave popcorn. It really should have been an episode all by itself... if for not other reason that to show the creativity and effort that would have gone into it.

Yeah, but I referenced the first Equestria Girls movie when I thought of this. Sunset was easily able to slip past the single Royal Guard patrols to reach Twilight's room to steal the Element of Magic without being discovered. The Changelings would have been able to do the same thing since most Royal Guards would be asleep in their barracks, so they would only have to slip past the single patrols to reach the Royal Family's bedchambers and kidnap them without them knowing it. Plus, all things considered, when we do see the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony in their cocoons, many of them are asleep, or in a sleepy state when they open their eyes before closing them again, indicating all the more that they were taken overnight when they were the most vulnerable.

You also see Trixie and Discord in the same state leading me to believe the cocoons at best make you lethargic if not outright comatose. I would imagine they did take them at night since it would be at their most vulnerable.... but Luna is fully active at night and should not have been caught so unawares. As for slipping by the guards, yeah it is possible... with a little observation and form changing and some simple explanations they could probably slip by... the guards don't strike me as the brightest matches in the box. But still taking the princess and their family in Cadence's case would still be a bit more challenging than slip in and stuff them in a pillow case. The have voices and all and plenty of guards within shouting distance as well as have powerful magic at their disposal including the ability to teleport around as they see fit. And as I said Luna should have been wide awake and on active duty.. so she would be even more of a challenge. I assume they could have been drugged or had some sleeping spell cast upon them to make it all work... but in the end I just don't see it as a simple get in and get out job. I just imagine it would have been an episode of hi-jinks all on its own.

Oh well, that is what head canon is for I suppose.

I'm amazed at how deeply people are thinking about this! I just figured, they shapeshifted, a good whack in da head and off they go! Simple but effective.

I was asking myself more questions about how the vines entangling the Tree of Harmony had transported Celestia and Luna all the way from Canterlot. Seeing a vine cocoon hitting the road must have been quite the sight :please:

Yeah, but you know most of us here don't like simple.. we like complicated episode filling plans.

The whole vines thing was another one that got all screwy.. I mean a large vine capable of entering the castle and not only attacking Celestia but defeating and subduing her and then questing her away and not A SINGLE PONY NOTICED OR HEARD ANYTHING!? But that is a whole different argument.

The vines probably rendered them catatonic and transported them through the ground.

This is definitely a huge plot hole in the finale for sure. It doesn't bother me as much as it does some others but I can see why it is an issue. It could just be immense numbers that took them out possibly during the night. Sleeping is a definite way to be captured by an army like them. XD Though it also begs the question how so many important ponies were captured without absolute chaos ensuing in Equestria. Literally every single royalty figure was captured and Equestria was like, eh, another day.

It is not a plothole. This word is used too often. It would be a plothole if we had something in the plot events to contradict what could happen but there is no info what happened. For this reason I presume, the less info the less change of fixing plotholes.

You can say this is improbable but clearly it can be done when Cadence was taken before and Luna and Celestia taken by the vines. And the mane 6 expecially are very approachable. When you have a group that can change shapes and act quite well with 3 full and own half season to execute the plan and security measures in Equestria being pretty lax when there is no crisis it seems hardly impossible.

Yeah, but if one looks carefully while they are in the cocoons, they are definitely in a position of having been kidnapped while they were asleep, and once they were free, several of them were having trouble even getting back to their feet since they probably were just waking up from being asleep for so long. Lethargic, possible.

After all, Twilight pretty much spoke for everyone once she saw where they were and wondered what the heck happened. Once Starlight brought them up-to-date on recent events, it only made more sense that once they knew what had happened after they went to sleep in their beds and who was to blame, it led to the scene of them glaring at Chrysalis since they now knew what happened and who was responsible for it, ready to give her what she deserves for pulling something so dastardly and low, even for her, and putting them through all of it when they were unaware of any of it in the first place.

It is not a plothole. This word is used too often. It would be a plothole if we had something in the plot events to contradict what could happen but there is no info what happened. For this reason I presume, the less info the less change of fixing plotholes.

Agreed. With the guard down after events with Thorax, it was not that difficult for Chrysalis to be able to so easily sweep in during the night, catch the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony in their sleep, and make off with them, leaving them trapped in cocoons, sleeping peacefully, until she had finished her invasion. Then, being merciful, she could let them sleep in the cocoons forever since they were not a threat now and her throne basically gave her a backup plan if she decided to let them go instead.
