Thinking about switching from the volume packs to omnibus for collecting (cost).

Hello everypony,

So I've been collecting the volume packs for the comics for some time now (I'm actually up to volume 11, the one that collects issue #43-47), for the main comics. The volume packs collect roughly around 4 issues in a pack, which was convenient for me when I first started collecting, because I didn't want to constantly get every single individual issue (and instead) wanted things in a pack.

But due to a few other things, I've been thinking about switching over from collecting the volume packs to the omnibus. Can anyone tell me what I might be missing out if I switched over from the volume packs to the omnibus?  The reason I'm considering the change is due to an effort to try and save some funds here and there (albeit, this is a low penny pinch, but still, something I'm considering).

Is there other things that I should consider? I do notice, the omnibus versions are really far behind because they collect roughly every 12 issues into one omnibus (they're only up to omnibus #3 as of writing this, which is up to issue 25-37).

aah, i would like to know too

i really dont like thin comics with unfinished stories, even if its a volume pack.

i want a big one with some full arcs. and better if they have hardcover.

i hope they keep releasing the omnibuss versions, and dont stop at the number 3 tho :o_o:

the omnibusses are mostly 12 comics, and it is very likely that they will eventually end on the same comic, and you'll be able to switch over without a gap.
the last omnibus went from 25-37 though, because the 37th issue was part of a series.

I'd suggest waiting for the next omnibus (4) to come out and see which comic it ends on.

Of course, if you are not picky, you could allow them to overlap a bit.

They'll keep making the omnibuses. It's just that they have a long time between releases. I don't think there is a hardcover variant of the omnibuses? There is some sort of hard cover variant that is floating around but I don't recall what it is and what's it in it. Sorry.

Also I checked and in spain they're relasing the translated volume packs. I dont think we will get the spanish omnibus, but im ok to buy the english ones

I think if you don't mind missing out on a few extras, the omnibuses are great. Granted, if you care that much then the individual issues are even better than the volumes regarding extra content, so...meh. However, some extras can be significant. In the latest volume it just amounted to cover art, but some volumes featured extra stories not in the omnibuses, so that's worth noting. Overall, the omnibuses are the better deal, but they do still cost more than a volume, where the cost is more spread out, and on that note, the cost of individual issues are spread out even more. You will save money with omnibuses but will have to wait even longer than it takes for the volumes to come out, and yes, miss out on a few extras here and there. It's unknown whether the new format for volumes will include noteworthy extras in the future, mind you. It's up to you if it's worth it to make the switch.

I would probably wait till at least after volume 12 since omnibuses tend to contain three volumes worth of issues and you would essentially be rebuying volumes 10 and 11, and I can guarantee just buying volume 12 for the stories you don't have yet will be cheaper. The omnibuses only save you money if you want three volumes for a lower price than buying all of them individually. If you decide to make the switch then omnibus 5 will probably be the most ideal starting point as it should contain volumes 13-15, but volume 12 isn't even out yet, let alone omnibus 4, so...you have a lot of waiting ahead of you. Same goes for Friends Forever if you want to switch to its omnibus series.
