BronyCAN 2017 Discussion

12 posts in this topic

Well, I guess I'll get the ball rolling early this year! So, here's the thing, I guess. Every year, since I started doing it last year, I will be starting a topic here on MLPForums for a BronyCAN discussion. It'll be my little "thing" I guess.

Anyways, since we're still REALLY early into the year, and BronyCAN is still half a year away, what are everyone's thoughts? I mean, last year was quieter than 2015, and that could be realized by the fact that it was the same weekend as AniRevo and Anime Evolution, two of the biggest conventions out there in the world (IN regards to animation. ComiCon is still larger by far).

Anything in particular those of you who might consider going are looking forward to? (I might not be able to go this year, simply because lack of job means lack of funds, and that means lack of an ability to unveil what I was planning to unveil.)

I haven't heard much from them - they had a table at BABSCon and I didn't get a chance to see what was up.

But their website has been really quiet, and it worries me.

How time it flies. Only three months away.

And unfortunately, this happens to be their last year due to a shrinking fandom.

It's a shame. This is the one convention I never attended and I wish I had the chance to do so. I have hopes the movie will resurrect the fandom.

No!  I love BronyCAN!  I was going to have to miss it this year because I applied to volunteer at a kid's camp, but I didn't get in, so I guess I'm free for BronyCAN this year, and now that I know it's the last year I'm even more glad I get to go.  To be honest, if it wasn't within driving distance I wouldn't be attending any Brony Con and I'm really fortunate to have one close enough.  I'm not dedicated enough to get on a plane or travel south of the border, so I guess this will be my last Pony con...

I didn't think the fandom was actually shrinking that rapidly.  Maybe there just aren't enough dedicated fans in our region anymore.  I'll make sure to attend this year.

Can someone pick up an exclusiveTSSSF card for Me? I'll pay for it or trade some other TSSSF cards.

I can't believe this is the last year for these guys. Hopefully Everfree NW doesn't go down the rabbit hole. Although they are hosting again for next year, so there is high hopes it could keep going. Also... Shrinking fandom?! Really? I'd give myself up to Queen Chrysalis before I hear that again.

I'm coming this year, wasn't sure if I wanted to go or not, but by the time I decided to come, I couldn't find a hotel room for <C$200/night at a good location; all sold out, I guess. Good thing I found a place on a hostel site that's near the convention!

To be honest, I wasn't too sure about hostels; it's my first time and giving it a try...

Does anyone need a room at the con hotel for Thursday thru Sunday nights? We have three in our room and are looking for a fourth to cut costs even further. Short notice, I know, but if there is interest let me know by Thursday evening if possible. Thanks!

I'm surprised nopony has posted anything post-con, but I guess I'll be the first.  I'm really sad that this was the last one, but I'm thankful we got as many years as we did out of it.  I also hear there are plans for someone else to start up a con for Bronies in this area, but we will have to wait and see.  There's also Vancoufur, which I don't think I'll be able to attend, but which is supposed to have a big Pony presence, and Everfree Northwest just across the border, which I'll have to wait and see on.  It's not the end of the world, just the end of an era.

Anyways, my con was good this year.  I chose not to enter any CCG tournaments this year as that took up so much of my time last year.  I did, however, invest in a lot of card stuff from other games, and I did get Kelly Sheridan to sign my ultra rare Starlight Glimmer Chrono Trigger CCG card that I acquired last year.  I now have a Buck Legacy set with one expansion (the double expansion).  I also have a Horse Con set, and even more Shipfic cards than I had before.

I had a lot of fun meeting new friends, and Feld0 invited me up to his penthouse suite...twice!  Let's just say it puts the view from the Skyview Ballroom to shame.  Well, I had a great time and I'll have to consider my options on how to do it all again next year at a different venue.
