Is Twilight's "big break" from the show becoming too much?

I should admit, Twilight needed a break from the show after a bunch of big roles in the first 3 episodes, but I'm feeling concerned that her "big break" is becoming too much for her by now. However, she still seems to be in first place for most dialogue spoken this season after 9 episodes, even while not appearing for at least four episodes in a row.

Who else thinks about Twilight's big break so far?

I don't mind. I like Twilight, but in a show with such a large supporting cast, it's nice to see a variety of characters in the spotlight.

More Twilight in season 7 would mean more post-season 3 Twilight, and the less of that we get the happier I am, honestly. Then again, I liked her in the Flurry Heart episode, so maybe she'd finally be halfway interesting again. Couldn't be worse than what season 7 has offered so far.

im not enjoying Twilight as the new Princess Celestia. we were introduced to her as the main charcater and now she's been shoved into the background somewhat I feel. Its all about Starlight, who just doesnt have the same characteristic as Twilight did in Season 1. I want the silly overthinking fun Twilight back.

I don't mind it, I'm more annoyed when the show goes out of its way to remind us that she is for sure the main character of the show.  Like, don't get me wrong, I can completely accept that Twilight is the main character, no problem, and don't even mind if she saves the day in most season openers or finales (though I do like that in recent seasons they've been experimenting with that and trying different things), but if she's given the lion's share of regular screen time as well it can get a little annoying.  The show and setting are so much bigger than Twilight alone (though I do enjoy when we get to see her in a co-starring or supporting role).

Probably not, there are times where she appears in episodes where she serves no real purpose for that episode and is only there for stats. It's clear that she has no interest in making friends with new ponies despite being the Princess of Friendship and I think she is holding the show back, she is not a good leader and doesn't lead by example like what Starlight did in the S6 Finale, ever since she became an alicorn, she had now became a Me First character where she only thinks about herself and her own interests, look up in the second episode of the season, it's clear that she's only doing the activity for herself and not for her friends. She is a shell of her old self and is 2-3 seasons past her prime, her episodes just isn't interesting anymore, any of the other Remane 5 doing her role would've been more interesting than how she would have done it. The writers need to let her go and either make her a minor character or retire the character completely.

I'm among the people who think the show is better off supporting it's ensemble cast.  As much as I like Twilight, I think it's time that other characters(be it the rest of the Mane 6, Starlight Glimmer, her new friends Trixie and Maud, Discord, and perhaps everyone else in Ponyville) should get more of the spotlight.

Hell, I would love for My Little Pony to be more of an ensemble series rather just being focused too much on selected characters.  Maybe Der...I mean Muffins should get her own day in the spotlight.

I do miss seeing the "old" Twilight and her goofy antics with Spike. Perhaps she just seemed more relatable then, as a plain ole' unicorn who was finding her way in the world and learning about friendship for the first time. Now she's supposedly a friendship pro, a mentor, an alicorn princess, and a spell-wielding powerhouse who leads her group when they aren't being sent out individually to handle issues. Her alicorn princess status especially separated her from her friends (not necessarily in a bad way, but it definitely did).

I enjoyed seeing Twilight's trials, like wondering what to do during Winter Wrap up, or trying to figure out who to share her Gala tickets with, or even worrying over Spike. Now the show seems to present her as being above that, and maybe she is; one of the great things about this show is that it shows development, something many cartoons particularly seem to have trouble with. I accept the show's portrayal of her character currently, although it would be nice to see her still actively learning and growing. She and her friends letters to Celestia were just darling to me (but again, its fine if they are past that... afterall, they've gotten to know one another quite well)!

I'm sure Twilight and Spike will get a major episode in Season 7, I know it.

They are.

Twilight will have a major focus on Fame and Misfortune

Spike will be alongside Ember and Thorax in Triple Threat.

Yes, the show needs more Twilight.... make it so DHX. The show should be MLP: Twilight Is Magic.

Yeah, OK.... not really.

I love Twilight, but the show is not just about her anymore if indeed it ever really was. I would rather have good episodes involving a multitude of characters than having her take the lead constantly and be like some necessary presence required to make it move forward. I am perfectly OK with having her star in a few amazing episodes a season than be mediocre in most of them.

Yeah. I've personally liked how they have used her in S4 through S7. A few key episodes a season, and give her a few highlighted scenes when she is in the ensemble role. It makes her focused episodes more meaningful.

Though I'm sure Tara Strong would disagree with us. :P

It almost seems like the show is trying to make us forget she's there.  This could be for a few reasons:

1 - The Boring Reason - They want to quietly write her out of the series without too much backlash.

2 - The Less Boring Reason - They're giving other characters more screen time.

3 - The Interesting Reason - They're pulling a Tommy Oliver and she's going to show up later on in a major episode and cause some kind of big change.

This. ^^

The show has long since moved on from the focus on Twilight. If there's one thing that I think holds back Season 1 and early Season 2, it's the fact that Twilight had to somehow be written into every single episode because she had to learn something about friendship from it. Writers get more creative freedom now since they have all these characters to work with. Even the other Mane 6 and CMC are slowly being joined by Starlight's ensemble of friends, providing more variety.
