Not sure I agree. The alternative is to say you should only love people you think you have a chance with, and that's a sad thing to think about.

MLP's ability to capture relevant moral lessons is precisely because the characters are so flawed. Relationships are not Rarity's strong point - she's difficult and irrational - so I think the writers are simply obeying the #1 rule of good writing - stay true to the character. A dramatic something needs to happen to take the Sparity relationship to the next level - whether it is a closer and more respectable relationship or something that dims away.

Coping with rejection is a valuable lesson - we all have to suck it up sooner or later.

This shipping is getting more pointless every season but everytime i thought about how this  ship should have end, i remembered the beautiful scene in Secret of my Excess, i am conflicted...

Well..the crush isn't really there anymore, he still fawns over her (cuz she sexy af) but he clearly was somewhat flirty with Ember as well. It's more realistic than say Gravity Falls when he was like deeply in love with Wendy and then one talk later he was just 100% over her, it is pretty obvious Spike knows he will never be with Rarity, but he cares about her a lot and still has some feelings for her (and she sexy af)  But I am  confident he is over his delusions.

As much as I kinda agree that the shipping should end in-universe, you guys bashing either Rarity for "taking advantage of Spike" or Spike for "crushing on a pony too old for him" are being rude.
