Has The Mane Six Expanded To The Mane Eight?

But Starlight's group of friends would exist in addition to Spike, the mane six, the CMC, and Starlight herself. Might stretch the show past the breaking point.

Plenty of already established secondary characters though. Personally I would LOVE to see, say, a Crystal Empire episode with no mane6 at all, but with Sunburst coming up with a clever solution to a problem Cadence's Alicorn Magic couldn't fix, or a Royal Sisters episode with sunburst being called to the palace (not that I think we need less mane6, but I would like to see Sunburst's character developed more)

until SG gets a chair at the round tableof friendship and gets invited to go on friendship retreats with the Mane6, sit will always be the mane 6 (much as I hate that sSpike is left out)

I don't see that as a bad thing though. Starlight is no more suited to joining the mane6 than Discord is.

I wouldn't say that the mane 6 has become the mane 8.

Mainly because Starlight doesn't interact with members of the mane 6 outside of Twilight enough to be considered part of their group.

Plus given how she is a recurring character for FIM she can't just join the main cast of Equestria Girls, seeing how the two series are supposed to be separate, so it's not like she is going to go through the portal to the human world anytime soon after Mirror Magic.  At best should make a cameo or something in whatever the next installment of the EQG series.

So yeah, she doesn't really fit with either the mane 6 or the main 7 from either of the two series.

Sadly, there wont be mane 7 or mane 8, i thought about it when the mane 6 sang "Best friends until the end of time".

And no, i dont think Starlight fit with the mane 6 group. She will have her own group of friend eventually.

The idea Starlight being a mane 7 is still a mistake, i hope the writers just forget about it and drop it.

Well, okay, I see what you mean now. I still think that Starlight being separate from the mane six is part of why she feels like she's stealing their spotlight sometimes, but I wouldn't mind if her episodes involved a lot of secondary characters we otherwise don't get to see much of.

Short answer: No.

Starlight Glimmer doesn't appear to be that close to the mane 6, she seems to be comfortable only with Twilight and Spike from the main cast. Every member of the mane 6 (plus Spike) is best friends with one another, that seals it for me.

Sunset is EQG only (at the moment) and there she's a main character since Rainbow Rocks, so humane 7 is a thing. Starlight has only been there for a special episode and no movies... I think it is safe to say she's no part of the group of teenagers.

I don't really think there's a "mane eight." Starlight and Sunset have only just met for the first time, and Sunset has only interacted with Princess Twilight... she has never met the pony counterparts of her human friends.

Though if you want to set things up for a successor to FiM with different main characters, Starlight, Sunset, Trixie, Thorax, and Discord are a great bunch of former villains who have benefited from the magic of friendship. If Sunset ever decides to permanently move back to Equestria, then this could become a reality.

But aren't the ponies actually the same as their human counterparts. Doesn't Sunset know how they think and what she must say to make them happy?

If I don't understand something or Interpret it wrong, I'm dutch. Sometimes I gamble for meanings of the words. And sometimes I write the wrong words, like week and weak for example. Sorry for it already. :smug:

Discord, Twilight, Sunset, Fluttershy, Starlight, Rarity, Luna, Celestia, Big MCintosh, Cadence, Shining, Minuette, Lyra, Rara, Sweetie Belle, Cheerilee, Derpy, Spike.

Yes and no. Yes, the ponies have the same personalities as their human counterparts. But we must remember they are still separate individuals with separate experiences, so they do not share memories. Princess Twilight and Sci-Twi were drastically different from one another for a long time. Whereas Princess Twilight was introduced to friendship and grew so much over a few seasons, Sci-Twi is still learning. And she has only just overcome a sinister alter-ego that her pony counterpart has never dealt with.

Would Sunset fit right in with the ponies? Of course she would. The core of each personality is the same. But in the end they aren't truly identical. Sort of like identical twins who are genetically identical and may even have similar personalities, but no one would dare consider them two different copies of the same person.

Think of Flash Sentry. Human Flash was Princess Twilight's love interest, whereas pony Flash has barely interacted with her.

Sunset shimmer hasn't interacted with the group nearly enough, and Starlight... I guess she's doing her own thing?

It looks a lot less like ponies will be joining the mane 6 and more like they'll be forming their own group. Trixie, Starlight, Sunset. Maud, maybe? These ponies all clearly have a lot of growing to do. This is probably beyond the scope of the show, but it seems like a group of ponies like these would make a good heir to the elements of harmony.
