heavens-champion 1,905 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 Let's be honest. Ruling the world sounds like a lot of stress. Not to mention all of the assassination attempts. Why would people want to rule it?

LostVagabond 25 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 I suppose it depends on whether you have to work for it, or if you are somehow magically given it. If it's the latter then yeah, either the person does it for the power and recognition or they want to make the world a better place. I mean, if I was offered it then I would absolutely take it. You only live once after all.
Once In A Blue Moon 895 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 Why would anyone want power or authority? As @Prospekt's post suggested, it's either because they get (or want to get) something out of it or because they want to do something with it. As an example, think of something that you think is wrong on a small scale and then consider being in a position to change it. Especially if it's something you know that you could sort out, and the position comes with some appealing perks (such as better pay), that is quite appealing - never mind making a utopia, improving a local authority's bin collection rota and having something done about the potholes in the road is a start. That leads to local politics, and if one were to achieve success there then one might consider national politics. Once you've got into national politics you might want a more senior position in your party so as to wield more influence and to achieve your objectives. At that point you're in at the deep end; sink or swim (or be devoured by sharks.) It's very much a case of trying to make small local changes can lead you down the path to the premiership*. Of course, the vast majority won't go all the way, but that is an example of how someone who may not (originally) be aiming for a position of power could end up there anyway. *or you could just go for president without any of the intervening steps, which apparently works these days. Whisper, The City of Darkness; Carto Sketch - The Dark Millennium Participating in this RP can be agonizing sometimes.
Kaneki 1,073 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 I wouldn't. But I'd imagine some would want to because they have a unique way to solve a big issue in today's world, but this is unfortunately not the case in most situations. Many politicians promote things that never go fulfilled, and there could be many reasons for that, but most just want to have the power because it makes them feel important. Techno Universal 2,575 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 Well apparently I've figured out that it's literally my destiny to become a world leader because of me bringing my perfect society of Troneon to life. Plus the thing with Troneon is it's literally heaven on earth in a way as everyone will have more freedom than they could ever imagine. Anyways apparently in the beginning I was living with my new girlfriend and we started a YouTube channel that was for vloging and gaming plus there was a massive worldwide trend that came from us and that trend was literally when people got their own massive capes to play and cuddle with. Then from there we got more famous for being more likeable and for a better word than anyone else. We then started creating the ponies from MLP and from there we were pretty much world leaders. Denim&Venöm 18,955 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 (edited) Probably has to do with people hating being told what to do. So they start to tell others what to do. And if they disobey, you force them. And it's not necessarily wanting to be waited in hand and foot. Rather, it's getting everyone to do what you think is best. A world unified by a single vision. Any single vision, may be what's best in the long run, rather than many ideologies fighting one another for control and appealing to the largest minority. LostVagabond 25 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 It really boils down to whether you want to be a leader or a follower. And as Denim said, most people who would accept the responsibility would do so on behalf of a greater vision, with everything else being a side perk.

Yakamaru 3,127 September 22, 2017 Share September 22, 2017 I'd rule the world properly and how I perceive the world to be a better place. Laws would be the same across the entire planet. No exceptions. Borders are to be respected, and so will culture, heritage and customs, however, no culture are equal, and no people are equal. Barbaric "traditions" 'n shit have to go. No more beheadings, public executions, forcing women to be second-class citizens, harassment and murder of LGBT people, condoning political violence, +++. Free speech would be similar if not identical to that of the American First Amendment. Equal rights, freedoms and liberties for everyone. NO pandering to ANY group. Feminism and Social Justice can fuck off. Voting age will be 18. Age of Consent 16. Age when you can get a license for car will be 18, 16 for a small moped/motorcycle. Focus will be to get as many as possible into a job. Welfare will be able to keep you alive with a small opportunity to save up a small amount of cash. Actually disabled people will get the proper help and assistance needed. Those with mental illnesses will get the proper help and treatment to deal with their condition as they see fit. Criminals will be jailed properly, but the focus will be on re-integration into society. Punishment is the loss of freedom and some more basic fundamental rights and commodities. Execution is only reserved for those who can't be re-integrated into society. Mental and psychological health will be taken seriously, but not pandered to. You will get the help you need in order to get over your problems/traumas. Weed will be made legal for personal use, but in smaller quantities. Cannabis will be much more thoroughly researched as a potential life-saving medicine. Most drugs will be decriminalized and regulated and taxed properly. Human trafficking will be severely cracked down upon, not to mention child exploitation rings. Pedophiles will be sterilized. In some cases, euthanized. This goes for both genders. There will be no double-standards on the issue. Free market Capitalism. The government won't interfere in markets let alone dictate employee/employer contracts. But there will be some regulations to ensure quality of the product. If the product as advertised doesn't hold up, the company can be held responsible for lying to its customers. Broad and well-defined consumer and employee protection laws. No company will be allowed to fuck over their employees. Bigotry and intolerance would be addressed properly. Either get your shit together, or any and all funding for your facilities will be kicked out. It's ok to hate. I give zero fucks about thoughts. What I do care about however, are actions. Open and public threats that feel genuine may get you a fine, depending on the severity of it. Education systems will get a huge fucking overhaul. One of the primary jobs of schools will be to throw different ideas, religions and ideologies at you, in order to make you understand what they are all about. They are to give children the proper tools to be able to deal with reality properly, and the tools and ability to be able to live on their own at some point in their lives. No more indoctrination into any specific ideology or religion. Religious schools are to include different religions as well. Economy will no longer be debt-based. Any debt a country have will have to make plans in order to pay it over a maximum of 50 years. Education is a mix of a privilege and right. Schools/Colleges/Universities will no longer require double let alone triple digit enrollment fees. At most, $15,000 for three years. Poverty, lack of housing, lack of education, disease, vaccine-preventable diseases/illnesses, hunger, etc, will all be addressed over time. Efficient and cheap non-dangerous building materials will be used to create some more basic housing for the more unfortunate. Overpopulation in Asia and Africa is a huge issue that is now starting to cause huge problems for every other continent, and have to be addressed. Power generation will be addressed. Focus will be on LFTR's(Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactors), fission, fusion and renewables where they are efficient. We will have to find ways to address radioactive waste, use it for something. Country borders are to be respected. Illegal aliens are illegal aliens, and have to go. I could write a whole god damn novel, but I will stop there, as people are probably already bored as hell with reading my nonsense. “Discovery is dangerous . . . but so is life. Aethylynn 45 September 25, 2017 Share September 25, 2017 It's human nature. Evolution favors the dominant members of the group. The more alpha you are, the better your chances of successfully reproducing. Thus it becomes part of our biology to be seek to improve our social status and influence. Awkward Segway 317 September 25, 2017 Share September 25, 2017 I wanted to conquer the world when I was younger, just for the sake of conquering it, and wanted to rule it just for the sake of ruling it (not really do anything significant, but just to be able to know that I could do pretty much anything I wanted if I ruled over everybody). But I no longer want to do that. So much Pony, so little time.
