Just hid a post; please let's keep this on topic. This not about Trump.

Cheers.

Sorry about that. I should've just said "I'm more of a Home Improvement guy, anyway."

No, you're the one ignoring the context of the word was used. Yes, negro did originally mean "black" but as it's been used in as slur for such a long time and on such a large scale that it has gotten a new and much more racist meaning over time.

I'll answer it here. No i mean modern context is different than old context. Saying Jap was something bad, now its positive and just is a shortage for Japanese person. You don't have to cling to the past for something to mean bad thing. The word itself is harmless. It doesn't harm anyone except people who empowers it thats the main point

No it is not. Here's what  the Minister of the Japanese Embassy in London said about the words usuage in an article  in "The Spectator" "Most Japanese people find the word 'Japs' offensive, irrespective of the circumstances in which it is used".

Those are instructed by the education system which is different from everyday life, to find it offensive because some people use it for bad reasons but those are few nowadays i think. But mainly it is context to WW2 when it literally was used as a slur compared to today which is like saying "Brit" or in this case "Jap". Here is Quora answer to it. The point is context not the word.

Not inherently, no. It would depend on the intent and context. There are people in some countries that use it as a slur, and if you want to avoid being associated with them, then you’re better off not using it.

On the other hand, most Japanese (in Japan) are not particularly aware of this and for the most part care little either way. I’ve seen it used locally as an abbreviation in various contexts, though abbreviations for a country are more often than not reduced to 2 letters not 3, with either JA or JP being the most common.

Guess who's the ape now? Rosanne's tweet is barbaric, looks like she is still stuck in the 88'. Welcome to 2018 Roseanne.

All I can say is:

Image result for that's what she deserves

Sorry that you had to learn the hard way that actions have consequence.  Maybe next time you will think twice before going on racist tirades.

Yes we have free speech BUT we must also be considerate, respectful, and responsible.

But that's human nature. No rules in place, we will carelessly run amok.

Never liked her to begin with. I respected her work, but as a comediani just could not laugh at her jokes. Didnt even follow her as a person, due to my entire family saying she was kinda nuts. With that tweet however, Roseanne showed that some people should never be allowed social media accounts.

My grandma always said look at yourself before insulting another person. If you are the perfect human in existance than go for it. Otherwise, are you any prettier? Are you any richer? Are you any hipper than they are?

If this was a game of soccer, Roseanne would be ejected and kicked off the team.

I like how people say "she got what she deserved", yeah except Rosanne is still wealthy and still doing fine, the people who were REALLY punished was her entire show staff like the cameramen and the light experts who are not sitting on millions and the other people who were passionate about making a show they cared about. In your effort to take down someone you didn't like you took down tons of innocents who had no hand in it. This isn't like Kathy Griffin where 1 person got their just deserts, you had to knock an entire show off the network to take Roseanne down which means you basically just killed a cockroach by burning the house down.

I don't know why anyone is celebrating. Tons of people who had nothing to do with this got hit with the same punishment that the perpetrator did and we're here celebrating. Meanwhile Roseanne still has a career, still has millions and the crew working on the show lost out on a paying job.
