Shadowfax 68 July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 As fans of the show, we're all to familiar with the strange case of liking a show "for girls." However, that didn't stop the show from garnering one of the greatest fandoms out there. Many like to speculate on why it got popular, but I think those people are thinking to large. To specify, I'm not asking what got you into the show. What I'm asking is, why do you watch the show? What gets you to come back? What do you like about the show that makes it worthwhile?

Jeric 46,880 July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 I watch it with my family. It is adorable. It makes me chuckle. The animation is efficient and expressive. I enjoy the VA's. GeekySonic 1,151 July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 Gonna be straight with ya, I didn't want to watch the show. I thought it looked terrible. But the fandom made so much cool stuff, it boggled my mind. I didn't watch the show until after reading Fallout Equestria. I still went in with low expectations, and I was just pleasantly surprised. I think it's cute, funny, and when it needs to be, really engaging. Check out my voice-acting demo reels on Casting Call Club, if you'd like. Iam 526 July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 Why I watch the show? Relatable characters (I relate to Starlight Glimmer to an obsession), nice for eye colors, simple yet great animations and that curiousity "what will happen next to <insert name of character here>"? FizzyWind 64 July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 I watched a clip from the show in 2014 of pinkie’s tea party in “party of one” where she goes insane this boggled my mind because I didn’t know the show would use dark themes which got me into actually watching the show. In recent years I started to get involved with the previous generations of mlp and I have come to love g1 in particular for the designs and the peaceful and charming aesthetic. I am glad that Mlp was able to surprise me and get me invested into a world of fantasy and adventure but also with it’s dark aspects and villains. I liked the characters in both generations and they have stuck with me. I not so much like this show because of the fandom rather I like it because it has inspired many creators out there who may or may not associate with the fandom to create interesting and fun content. Despite my love for dark themes Mlp has helped me appreciate the light hearted things in life much more along with existing parallels. That is what got me not only into g4 but into g1 mlp as well.
Shadowfax 68 July 27, 2018 Author Share July 27, 2018 There's one thing I'm surprised wasn't mentioned yet, and that's it's aesthetics. It's gorgeous! It's a whimsical, light hearted style that I can appreciate, a nice balance from most high fantasy settings that tend to be dark. It invokes the imagination and wonder in things, a result which I seldom see other styles do. I almost don't want G5 because I'm almost sure I won't be able to like its style as much. Like battling an ancient corrupting evil from before recorded history . . . oh wait you meant things like feeling excluded by friends, dealing with the "death" of loved ones, knowing when you need to let someone stand on their own, I could go on for a couple of paragraphs. Joking aside I agree for a show aimed at a younger audience its dealt with a lot of concepts and issues that most people deal with growing up at one point or another. Sure they're pastel coloured ponies powered by friendship but its easy to see a lot of ourselves in them too.

I've seen a lot of cartoons/anime in the past that features Ocean Studios' vocal talents so knowing that they were providing the voices of the characters in this was an added bonus. King of Canterlot 9,606 July 27, 2018 Share July 27, 2018 Curiosity. I had heard of Bronies before, and I was wondering why they were so passionate about the show, so I gave it a watch and I fell in love with it! I love the characters (Especially Rainbow Dash) and I just kinda liked how, I guess innocent it was, like it wasn't some super flashy badass show, it's just a mostly simple show about Ponies learning friendship type-stuff, and I really liked that. There are many other factors too, but that really seems to be the big mane one for me at least RA RA RASPUTIN

Cash In 23,050 July 28, 2018 Share July 28, 2018 The characters are fun and lovable. The world building is also surprisingly good for what it is. Misty Shadow 8,197 July 28, 2018 Share July 28, 2018 I first got into the show because of how fascinated I was that something related to My Little Pony could be so good. My initial "getting out of MLP" phase started when I began feeling like the show had "served its purpose", that it no longer had to prove to me that something tied to My Little Pony could be good, and what drew me back in was one part of me being intrigued by where the show was going to go from Twilight becoming an alicorn and another part of me being intrigued by what the fanbase I was now attached to was going to do after how many people walked out after disagreements with the show's new direction. Obviously, I have great appreciation for the intelligent writing and feel an unmovable sentiment for the characters, but I feel what really keeps me subscribed to the show more than anything is pure fascination for how much it's opened up to me. Just looking at how the show is still good even after all this time and after how much of the original creative staff moved on astounds me, and what makes it even better is watching how so much of the show's fanbase is still devoted enough to make incredible fan projects inspired by it. I think that's what makes the show click for me, how it has always made me feel a sense of pure inspiration that will last forever.

Guest July 28, 2018 Share July 28, 2018 The most important reason to me is that it's a happy and cheerful show that values friendship a whole lot. It also has lovable characters with memorable designs and doesn't focus on adult humor or even adult themes. It's healthy, wholesome fun for me - I have a tendency to let my mind slip into darker places occasionally but shows like FiM remind me of the stuff that I can still enjoy.
