What character do you believe is the most well written, and vice versa?

Out of all the characters in the current generation of MLP, who is the best and worst written in your opinion? Here's mine:

Best written: Scootaloo. When I was born, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, so the fact that Scootaloo is a pegasus who can't fly is extremely relatable to me. In every episode, I find her actions, words, and just everything so real. She feels like the character that in my opinion, could be a real person in real life. She's childish and determined. Brave and easily impressed, yet she has limits. I love the way she's written, and clearly with The Washouts being her newest centric episode, the writers have not failed to bring spirit and charisma to Scoots.

Worst written: Fluttershy. All her early episodes, as had been said many times, were just poor rehashes over and over. Now, some have argued, her character has gone past that phase, and while I think that's  true, I believe she has entered a worse one. Her episodes are now extremely forgettable, and all memorable/lovable aspects of her personality have vanished. I feel like Fluttershy was never really written all that well, especially with the archetype she's supposed to fit in.

I'd love to hear all of your opinions, though, and please specify why.

Best: Twilight Sparkle. Her nerdy side is lovable rather than annoying and she progresses and grows just like people do in real life.

Worst: This is harder to decide, but I think I’ll go with Sandbar. He doesn’t really do much and he’s just not as intriguing to me as his friends.

I don't know if it's best written character on concept or best written on execution. If it's best on concept, I'll say the main six are equally good and the best. They are the most carefully crafted and the center of the whole concept of G4. The worst is Chancellor Neighsay. Putting in a politocal racist character wasn't a good move. I think they should have focused on storytelling first.

When it's about execution, I'd say Rarity. She is the most interesting character both in short-term and long-term stortelling. Also very understandable and predictable (in a good way). When It's bad written on execution, I'd say Starswirl the Bearded. Now (after Friendship University) he is just an ignorant, dull, close minded old pony. What we expected from him and everything and what he should have been are not anymore.

And Cozy Glow both applies to worst on concept and execution.

Twilight Sparkle is the best written character in my opinion. We watched her grow into the Princess she has now become.

The worst written is Zephyr Breeze. I absolutely HATED this poorly executed character. They had him bully his way back into his parent's house, and destroy his father's cloud collection as an excuse to have space to move into. Why did the writers have him be destructive like that?

Well, you sure seem to hate Season 8. (Just making an assumption.)

Depends. Twilight Sparkle for sure has always been the most consistently well written and portrayed of the main cast.

However, if we're talking about most developed and evolved, I think the answer is Rainbow Dash.

Conversely, I think the "worst" written character would have to be Principal Cinch. She's bland, uninteresting, and has devoid of any charm or charisma.

Spoiler

If were doing side characters now, I'd have to say that Sludge is the worst written.

I like the concept of not all villains/antagonists have to be redeemed, but Sludge has NO. LIKABLE. TRAITS. Sure, Lightning Dust was reckless and selfish, but in the end she still tried to befriend Dash. The Washouts  showed her even trying to help Scoots, and even though that ended pretty badly, she still at least tried to make somepony happy even if for selfish reasons. Sludge was just awful. The show didn't even give any reasons for him to be this greedy, selfish, blob of a character. I would have appreciated SOMETHING likeable out of him, but no. He manipulates Spike to believe that he is his father, takes advantage of everypony's  efforts to get him back in shape, causes Twilight to cry because Spike has found "his real father", and tries to steal from the castle until Smolder knocks some common sense into Spike. And why?

Because "that's what dragon's do."

And apparently we need an entire song dedicated to that.

Sludge could have been done well. In fact, if he just had a better reason for lying and manipulating Spike, I probably wouldn't have given this title to him. Like, how about Sludge just really wanted to have a son, or someone he looked upon as a son?

Then, we could have had a heartwarming yet sad episode that probably would have ended in my top 5.

Well, I'm done ranting. Someone give me a Coke.

Most well written: Twilight Sparkle, obviously.

Worst: In Season 8, both Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. Both of them hardly did anything at all in that season -- no interactions with the Student Six unlike ALL of the other main characters, and also two episodes apiece with nothing at all new whatsoever. Season 9 better be good to them both.

Best written? Rarity, though Twilight has also been very well done.

Worst? Cozy Glow. I actually can’t think of a better example of a “Everything I do and am is because the story demands it” character. She was smart enough to set the stage and be a threat, but she made so many dumb decisions and mistakes to ensure that she couldn’t succeed.

Best: I like Maud Pie. Since her debut, I don't feel there have been any major valleys in her characterization, and I believe that every episode has made her easier to read without giving up her stoicism, while also granting her exponentially more depth.

Worst: Does Equestria Girls count? Then Juniper Montage, who doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities, isn't funny, and yet gets reformed anyway just because.

The thing about Maud Pie is that I feel she's TOO perfect. I wish for once Pinkie could teach HER a lesson, that would be interesting.

I have a relatively easy time dealing with that because she's not a main character, and I prefer to see the mane six learning the lessons. But it would be great for her to learn a lesson, as long as the episode's not just about someone teaching that lesson to her.

Twilight definitely has to be the best written character. Being the main character of FiM, her personality and backstories are really complex. She started out as socially awkward and shy, but as the show progressed, she became one of the most forgiving and kindhearted characters in the show.

I guess this is why I relate to her so much.
