How do you feel about the opposite party? (US)

I have no idea what political alignment I would give myself. My views are a laundry basket of things thrown in. However, with that in mind, I will target a specific party here. I consider myself anti-Republican. No, the Democratic party is not free from making idiotic decisions, absolutely no party is, but the Republican party is basically the shining beacon of stupid shit. We have the dumbest president we could have possibly gotten and what a shock, he is republican. This party constantly fights against the rights of the LGBT community, constantly fights against any non-Christian religion, and is easily the most ignorant and pathetic in terms of politicians around here. The Republican party fights only for the rich, willing to abandon government programs that help those in need for the sake of tax cuts for the corporations or to increase our already bloated military budget. They constantly push this hardcore nationalism viewpoint that only creates arrogance, elitism and racism. They treat trivial things like a flag and an anthem as if we all must dedicate our life to it all. They criticize other places heavily while never looking at its own country in the mirror.

All corners of politics has immense corruption if you look deep enough, but I simply hate the republican party. It is one of the main reasons why I hate being known as an 'American'. Would much rather be called a Hoosier instead, even if Indiana supports this shitshow of a political party. I can't take pride in anything these days. Living in this country in itself is a depression.

Fun idea. Most (MOST, except a very few, which are extremely important to me) political issues I find to be completely oblique to what I actually care about in life. Gun stuff, immigration stuff, welfare stuff, I just don't care about, and these are things that people who consider themselves Republicans or Democrats tend to latch onto. Really I see reasonable arguments on both sides when it comes to these things, and I don't think they should divide us the way they do.

However on certain issues I am in a very small minority, and I feel passionately about these. If I shared them I'd probably be labeled a villain and a hater. Without being specific, I see people who disagree with me in two camps. They're all wrong, obviously! But the ones who passionately disagree with me and have good arguments to bring to the table, I really respect them and could totally be their friends, pop open a bottle of wine and chat for hours, despite disagreeing vehemently with them. But for the ones who disagree and are dumb about it, I have a hard time tolerating them.

Edit: add environmental stuff to the list of things that puts me at adds with my conservative confreres for not being opposed to. I'm very hard to pin down politically. Definitely conservative, but in an old-world sort of conservatism. I would have opposed the French Revolution with my whole being (how radical lol) but could not run for office as a Republican.

My views on hardcore Democrats aren't positive...to be honest. I'll just leave it at that.

I'll second that and leave it at that! :sassy:

My opinion of anybody that is hardcore one party or the other is bad. What happened to just being humans that cared about each other not advancing our own agendas?

I also 2nd this as well!

They aren't opposites, they're two sides of the same right-wing, corrupt coin. Jesse Ventura nailed it when he called them the "Rebloodlicans" and the "Democrips." I would register as a Green if there were a point.

As for Libertarians, I half agree and half disagree with them, but at least they don't seem corrupt and full of $#!+.
