Doing some nighttime Bell grinding for my house payment tomorrow. Also collecting any fish and bugs I can.

Critterpedia Entries:

Fish: 24

Bug: 18

Total: 42

My house is full of tanks and terrariums while I wait for Blather’s museum to be built. Yeah I can use the storage, but this is funnier. XD

EDIT: Btw, has anyone had their villagers request anything from them yet? Mine are me uncharacteristically self-sufficient.

I'm kinda doing the same, just in my dumpster of a backyard. It looks so ridiculous with all the tanks and enclosures just everywhere, plus I got my magnificent wall of fish.

Really looking forward until the museum opens, as I got some cool fish (caught an oar fish a few minutes ago!), plus I got so many fossils flying around.

I was looking forward to get new villagers, but seems like the two I've recruited yesterday will take some more time apparently.

Yeah, from what I'm hearing around, the villagers are stuck in tutorial mode for days.

I was quick to praise this game for how much it gave me to do on the first day (and I still will), but this is really annoying. The villagers should have reverted out of tutorial mode the instant the game went to real time.

Also the hourly music, it's also locked for days which I just don't get. For dedicated AC players, this won't be a big deal, but for those of us who are more casual and play more in the first days, we're losing a lot by not getting to hear the game's hourly music during these times where we are playing the game the most and thus would be hearing them more than later.

What a strange design choice... I mean, I admit, it’s my third day, and every day I’ve been given some new goal to accomplish.

But  it would be nice to help out my Villagers when I’ve finished all the obvious stuff. And yeah, I only just realized that the music hasn’t really changed.

Alright, time for bed! Got a lot done this morning on the Island of Everwell!

Progress (Potential Spoilers)!

Spoiler
  • Critterpedia count is now at 21 bugs and 24 fish. Blathers is going to be VERY busy when his museum opens tomorrow!
  • I’v collected 61 DIY recipes so far.
  • Paid off my house upgrade, signed up for the next one.
  • Got the Ladder and gained access to the higher levels of the island. Collected ALL weeds.
  • Nook’s Cranny opened! Love the drop off box feature. AND MABEL WAS THERE VISITING THE BOYS! That means Sable can’t be too far behind! (NookxSable fo lyfe!)
  • Helped Nook gather furnishings for new Houses Beau, Fauna, and Audie are going to move to.
  • Met Daisy! She’s so cute. Don’t forget, in previous games, if you let turnips rot, then you can put them outside to attract ants.

Still having fun! I hope you all are as well! X3

EDIT: Oh, one more thing just happened as I was getting ready to turn the game off!

Spoiler

Harvey showed up! I found him just wandering around my island. He invited me to his personal island where he rubs Photopia, his photography studio. Very cute. XD

Just give it a few more days or weeks. An entire town can't be in a single day you know. I'm sure once more and more Neighbors and Facilities move in, the music becomes more lively.

The fact the music slowly fades out as you approach the beach on the far side of the Island away from the growing town is a nice representation of going somewhere quiet.

That would be wrong. I just started Day 3 and as soon as I got out of my house, my Next Door nieghbor's tent was replaced by a house.

Eh, I’m now too bothered. It’s just an odd decision to change that specific feature after so many years.

Huh, that’s odd. Both of mine are still in tents. Must be a randomized variable. But I wish they’d start talking to me on their own soon. I like Villager quests.

Hey Will have you shared your progress? I like seeing where everyone else is.

Hey Will have you shared your progress? I like seeing where everyone else is.

Technically, I actually started late at night on March 19, because my digital copy became playable as soon as it was midnight on the east coast which is 9 at night on my West Coast. I quickly did as much as I could on the south end of the island, due to the rivers blocking me from passing them

Only downside was the constant tarantulas attacks late at night.

I called that early night Day 0. But I guess that's why I'm ahead of you in terms of my neighbors getting homes of their own overnight

With the CoronaVirus delaying everything, including the TurboGrafx-16 Mini, which I recently paid for, I had to cancel two things of that set to pre-order (AC Adapter because I found a cheaper one at a Dollar store, and Three Controllers, because I needed something more immediate to enjoy. I cancelled the three controllers to get Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but I made a time-consuming mistake of ordering physical. I won't be getting it until Monday the 23rd. I did get $10.68 back for pre-ordering. and was tempted to buy an MOD DVD of Moon Zero Two (A movie seen on MST3K from Warner Archive), but thought about next month.

As for Animal Crossing New Horizons, I think I might go with one of the following choices for Island names:

- Yoshi's (Yoshi's Island)
- File (Digimon)
- Kattelox (Mega Man Legends, overused by Mega Man fans)
- Ryship (The Misadventures of Tron Bonne)

On a Twitter poll, Ryship and File got tied.

Got the Ladder

How exactly did you do that? I haven't fully paid off my first 98,000 debt yet, JSYK(just so you know). And I'm hoping that under certain circumstances, weeds can pop up again so you can craft with them.

EDIT: Got the ladder

As I discovered this morning:

Spoiler

When I shattered a rock yesterday with an axe or shovel after eating a fruit, which left me with 3 rocks I could reach right now, this morning a new rock appeared bringing the number back up to 4. So I get this means if you destroy the rocks don't worry they won't be gone forever.

Mine did the same. That's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about the way they interact. They still seem to be limited in what they say and not giving me anything to do.

I've been immensely enjoying the game, it is almost everything that I've been wanting from this series. I will say that the start of this one is the slowest in the franchise, like not having a direct Nookstore until day 3 or a museum until day 4, but this seems to be part of the design and I think it is a great idea. Clearly this game is going for a much longer, grander focus for your town and it has me very excited for the future of how my town develops. <3

Speaking of, I named my town Hoosier. Yeah, I know, most might find that lame, but I like it. :P

I've built the required furniture items for the new neighbours moving in tomorrow and finally built my first bridge!!!  I just wish more stuff used hardwood or soft wood more than regular wood because I'm burning through regular wood rather quickly.  I wish there was a way to convert soft/hard wood into regular wood but I guess not.  I have three stacks of hardwood so far while I keep depleting my regular wood...

Also, I noticed something, I've went on a lot of island tours so far to collect materials when my town is depleted but I've noticed that if there're fruit trees on the island, there only going to be the town fruit I already have?  Sure, sometimes there might be coconuts but it's mostly oranges.  Is that a thing for other people or am I just unlucky?

I heard of the way you can properly catch those fuzzy little fellows.  When you walk up to them and they prop themselves up, stop.  When they settle down, move.  Keep doing that until you're in catching range.  It'll probably take some getting used to though.

You might be surprised, but it actually is not that difficult. It feels like the game is very lenient with the timing of when you stop after they prop themselves up.

I noticed this with the wasps (formerly bees in past games) where they made them remarkably easy to catch. All you have to do is have your net ready and shake the front of each tree. When a wasp nest falls out, your character faces it and you have ample time to swing and catch them.

I'd actually never caught a tarantula in the series before since they were so rare in past games.

This following post I spent about an hour typing up. It doesn't cover every little thing I did in the past few days, but the majority of stuff.

Day 0 (Thursday Night March 19 P.S. Due to time zones, I was able to play before it was technically March 20)

Spoiler

Moved to my new Island of Willthrive (Though I wished I had spelt with with a capital T in the middle. WillThrive would make it clear that it's pronounce I will thrive in this new world

Of the two starting neighbors I helped in setting up their tents, Leonardo the male Leopard is sure to be my favorite

After doing all the necessary pre-save stuff, I took a nap allowing time to synch up with my local time. Made me nostalgic to see K.K. Slider appear briefly to give a pretty darn similar speech to his pre-set stage of the original GameCube game all the way back in 2002

Caught creatures using Flimsy Net and Fishing Rod

Tried 4 times to catch a tarantula. Even with a net and hand it kept outsmarting me. Got KO four times in one night before I gave up. But I'll back one night to settle the score

Day 1 (Friday March 20)

Spoiler

Paid off Down Payment of 10000 using Nook Miles (NM) (one time thing using NM to pay off a loan, but it guarantees I'll have a house tomorrow)

Not much happened due to stuck on Southern end of Island, but I went material gathering and practice relearning some of the basic Controls and how to collect materials from trees by shaking or using Flimsy Ax. (Only a full regular "AXE" can chop down while weaker axes only knock Wood Materials off up to 3 per tree per day without hurting the tree itself)

Around 11:19 am, I disturb a wasp nest and got stung for the first time. Didn't bother to use medicine as I wanted to see if there was another. I would discover my answer tomorrow

Giving 5 Creatures to TN prepares Blathers to come

Placed the tent where the Museum would be, near the southern sea. Any more new creatures I catch I placed them outside for the night

Day 2 (Saturday March 21)

Spoiler

I wake up to my new house and discovered that my uncured wasp sting from yesterday healed. Apparently, when the day refreshes presumably at 6am your time, your wasp sting is cured so medicine is not an absolute requirement unless you don't want to walk around with a bad eye.

Got the Pole Vault. Willthrive Island feels more open

Discovered I could eat fruits then use Shovel to uproot a tree and move it elsewhere

Donate 15 creatures to Blathers allowing to be able to turn his tent into a real Museum. Any further creatures will have to wait outside

Helped washed up Gulliver fixed his phone

Did necessary preparations and materials gathering to have the Nook Twins open their shop

Got Item Wheel and expanded Pocket limit from starting 20 to 30 slots

DAL Flew to 1st Mystery Island, met Bubbles and invited her to come to Willthrive

Day 3 (Sunday March 22)

Spoiler

My two starting neighbors went from tents to houses

Meet Daisy Mae and 100 Turnips to play the Stalk Market this coming week

Museum under construction today

Nook's Cranny first opens

First Shop trip, I encountered Mabel who suggested that in the near future, she would want a clothes shop here on Willthrive

Learned how to use reactions and have 4 to start with

Got Ladder. Willthrive now feels fully explorable!

Flew to 2nd Mystery Island and met a new potential neighbor, got some bamboo related plant and materials to bring back

Did Tom's Nook suggestion of building 3 house lots. I personally chose to have them on the East side of the Island, although I was forced to furnish the house with whatever items I was told rather than having the freedom to choose. But with effort and persistence, I gathered all the materials and crafted all the required items. Tom Nook was so proud. The house and new neighbors should be in tomorrow if not later. And one of them is the Hippo named Bubbles I met on March 21 on Mystery Island 1.

Paid off Nook's Loan of 98,000 So now I can expand house space when ready

At this point, I'm loving this game alot and any problems I might have are minor compared to all the other pros I've seen so far.

I shall list more tomorrow

They only got me once. I was running and ran right up to one. It was the first one I’d seen, so it caught me off guard. But that’s fine. You get some Nookmiles for your first faint after all.

I got my revenge by catching like, 8 of them that night. XD

Exactly this. As long as you don’t let them startle you, the red light, green light method works great!

Also, @Envy, I FINALLY had one of my starter villagers ask me to catch a bug for them!

I’m about to close up Day 3. Here’s a quick summary

Critterpedia: 23 Fish/20 Bugs

The bridge site has been selected, and all three land plots are ready for the new incoming residents to move in.

Tomorrow morning, a lot is gonna happen. (See spoiler below)

Spoiler

The bridge to the lower northwest part of the island will be complete, residents Goldie, Bob, and Puddles move in, and the Museum is on track to open
