Actually with the new recent post bar on the side, we might be able to pinpoint which post is #500,000. It will take fortunate timing and multiple eyes.

 

This post inspired me to go looking a week after the fact. So I did. Knowing that #500,000 was posted on the 27th, I began using the Recent Posts list to find posts from that day, then I found the individual post ID numbers. I did this until I figured out that it was posted between 11 AM and 12 PM. #500,000 did not show up on Recent Posts, though. Then I went to the search bar; unfortunately I have to actually search for a three letter+ term. So I chose "pony", got a few results, and further narrowed the timeframe to between 11:20 AM and 11:40 AM. I refined the search timeframe and now did a search for the word "the", hoping to catch the elusive post. I figured out that it was posted at either 11:29 or 11:30 AM, but nothing more.

 

Sadly, I believe that it no longer exists (possible deletion). However, I did find post #500,001.

This here is the post with ID #500,000.

 

The thing is, we'll probably never know which post actually tripped 500,000 on the post counter, because deleted posts do not count towards it, and the counter on the homepage doesn't update in real-time.
