How do you think Argyle died?

I heard that they confirmed that Argyle dead. But it wasn’t revealed how he died. How do you think he died?

This might be a bit morbid for the source material but I always had a feeling that he might've been "made to disappear" by some residents of Maretime Bay because of his research.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing. That, or he gave up trying to find answers for his projects and got too depressed.

I tossed around the idea once of his death being caused by a sailing accident, one where there was no body recovered so he could be revealed to have been alive and stranded on some deserted island all along. But the confirmation of his death squashed that idea...

I don't pretend to know how he died, but I think I'd like some kind of mystery to be unfolded later in the series. Of course Sunny might already know, but it would be more fun if the series gave us reason to keep guessing.

 

Realistically, MLP has always avoided the subject of death so I don't know if anything more will be revealed in the near future.

The same way Applejack's parents died. It's for the creators to know (if they came up with a reason themselves), and for us to never find out. Unless they want to disclose a reason publicly in an interview. Most I can imagine them touching on about his passing in any piece of G5 media though is additional confirmation of what we already know, like having a manifestation of his spirit appear. Or imply that he's now a star like Applejack's parents.

This is kind of a dark idea.

My idea is that Argyle died from accidentally impaling himself while working on a project.

This idea makes Izzy almost getting impaled in MLP:ANG even scarier for Sunny.

It might be something we may never know considering that his death did occur offscreen and quite early in the movie. I'd like to assume that he passed away from natural causes as anything else could be seen as too grim for its own good.

Hmm, well.. since it's a hasbro movie, I'd assume it was natural causes, or something cliche like getting sick and slowly passing away while Sunny grows up. But more realistically I'd have to assume there was some sort of accident with his research?

Kinda makes you wonder about what happened to Sunny's mom as well, since she's not even mentioned in the movie as far as I can remember. Maybe she was the one who inspired Argyle to strive for unity between all ponies, making it his goal in her honor after she passed away?

Or she left him due to how different his views were compared to the norm.

I’m thinking the natural causes thing sounds like a probable cause of death since it is portrayed that way, but perhaps like what other people are saying, his death might get revealed in the future. It’s unlikely, but not impossible,

True, but the appearance of aging could have been premature and due to a terminal disease like cirrhosis or AIDS.

I've always thought that his death was from old age, but there are also other reasonable possibilities.
