The Fault In our Stars or Looking For Alaska both by John Green.

Many a manly tear was shed, it really got me at an emotional level and that is no mean feat cause, y'know, I'm all man and I never, ever cry.

"Breaking Through" by Francisco Jiménez. Mostly because I can sort of relate to what the author went through and also since it was a parting gift from a dear friend.

Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but when I was in grade school, I read this book called "Socks" It was about a cat, and when I got to the part where said cat got trapped accidentally in a mail box I cried for like 30 minutes... I was an emotional person back then, lol. Looking back now, it was a really meh story.

Special thanks to Midnightive for the sig~

I guess I just try too hard sometimes and in the end I'm the one who's left, still broken.

I rarely read, but:

The Scarlet Ibis - James Hurst

Really lacking on the beauty, and more just sad, but as Bill O'Reilly puts it, FUCK IT, WE'LL DO IT LIVE!

Saddest - Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky

Saddest as in it was such a dry read that I was crying from the dryness.

The first thing that came to mind was the simple yet profound story The Giving Tree. If you didn't read it in elementary school, I recommend giving it a try.

Oh my god. I can't believe someone else on this forum has read that besides me. Amazing, I loved that book dearly as a child and still do.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The only part of that series that struck me as particularly sad was...

...when Hermione whispered "Obliviate", and wrote herself out of her own life. I was like "whoah...shit just got real."

I remember that book, and also remember it really touching me. Still puts a lump in my throat :(

Which is ironic, because that didn't even happen in the book. Well, it did, but we didn't see it, just her saying she did it.

Signature now 99% less edgy!

I've never read a book that's actually classified as a sad book. But the saddest book I have read (only the ending was sad) was the Mysterious Island by Jules Verne.

Not only does Captain Nemo and Jup die but the island that the characters have had so many memories gets destroyed by a volcanic eruption. THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' ISLAND. UNDERWATER.
