technology Voyager 1 Nearing Interstellar Space

A Blithering Div

"The laws of physics say that someday Voyager will become the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, but we still do not know exactly when that someday will be," said Ed Stone, Voyager project scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. "The latest data indicate that we are clearly in a new region where things are changing more quickly. It is very exciting. We are approaching the solar system's frontier."

It's not really surprising that it's reaching the edge of the heliosphere but I think it will be quite interesting as nothing man made has gone that far. With any luck, something new will be discovered.

I've been keeping tabs on both Voyagers since 2006. The fact that there's human-made technology out there approaching interstellar space is a fascination of its own; though, with any luck, that new New Horizons ship will tread further beyond Voyager 1 ever will...

... Unless some alien race finds it and decides to outfit it with technology much beyond our understanding and manages to make a war machine out of it.

I am interested to see if we find anything interesting. Now I read my sentence it sounded kind of silly.

Brushing your hair is for people who care and someone who cares is not I, I'll jump off a bridge and then fill up your fridge,
and best pony is Fluttershy.

Her face is still blushing and she is still eating the pasta.

But...but that's where the Reapers are! We don't want the reapers, we still have to discover the Protheon technology on Mars!

Blasphemy. You know they exist somewhere.

Also, don't be silly, we'll just find teleportation tech from an ancient civilization that uses hell as a gateway. Provided there is ever a manned mission to Mars.

I can't fuzzing wait for the data from New Horizons. Not only will it be awesome to see Pluto portrayed as something more than up-scaled pixels, but we may also get images (and possibly more data) of Kuiper Belt objects as well. Coupled with better technology it only makes sense to make another voyager out of it as well. Despite the butchering of the manned programmed (for better or worse) the future in space is looking bright because I also found out that the James Webb Space Telescope is still on track.

Getting back to New Horizons; its actually traveling a bit slower than Voyager 1, however, because its newer I'd imagine that it would probably make it a lot father before it loses all power. As for the war machine, well, I think we'll be safe from that unless they also make it sentient and life seeking in which case, call Jeff Goldblum.

do we WANT to know whats out there?

Why wouldn't we? The universe is our playground (even though the odds of us sharing it are insanely high), so why not explore it?

NASA's budget as of 2011 was a little more than 16 billion dollars. If we devoted all of that to the unmanned program rather than a tin can a few hundred miles above earth that has people in it we could very easily lead in the scientific aspect of space exploration. Terraforming other planets? Not a huge fan of and is ridiculously expensive, so perhaps its best left to countries that can easily afford it.
